The place looks nice and the people working there are super friendly. The menu sounds amazing, but when the food came it was quite underwhelming. Small portions and a kind of bland flavor. I left still feeling hungry even though I had a Bao and the rice noodle salad.

My cousin recommended me this place because he uses to go quite often. It’s well frequented, so better to make a reservation beforehand. The good thing is that all diets find their happiness, from meat dishes to chay (vegan) options.
Read moreI went for the Vietnamese coffee, which was as expected, super flavorful. Then I took a few small dishes (Bao, Banh mi and fresh DIY spring rolls).
All the dishes were very flavorful and well presented.
However, we found the sizes quite small, so not really filling.
Another point of improvement would be the service. During rush hours, better not be in a hurry, because it can take some time…

The Pho Chay came in a tiny bowl with very little broth while the dish with rice noodles, vegan meat, veggies, and soy sauce tasted rather bland. Food came extremely quickly after placing order.

Anan Saigon is a busy and cool restaurant. I like the interior. They have small dishes and large dishes on the menu. The food is okay, but everything tasted the same. It's expensive. I wouldn't come back.

The restaurant has a cool look and vibe to it and it really suits the style of food they serve. For me it's a bit noisy, I prefer restaurants with a more laid back and quiet feel. Staff was very friendly.
Read moreThey have a menu with vegan and vegetarian options. The vegetarian options that aren't vegan are clearly mentioned at the top of the menu. These dishes contain egg. However, they can all be made vegan by leaving out the eggs. This means they have a lot of vegan options in total. Although there are lots of options, they all sound (and taste) pretty similar. It all tastes good enough, but the flavors aren't really banging. Most of the time you are just eating something salty or sweet or a combination of both with some occasional spicyness.
We ordered a total of 6 different dishes to share between the two of us. It wasn't an expensive evening by any means, but I left while still having some appetite. I did not feel like ordering any more dishes though because real variety in dishes is not really a thing here. I think it's a pity that they make almost all of their dishes with either tofu, vegan duck or vegan meat. Would love if they had some other (wholefood) options for protein.
I don't think I will be going back, which doesn't mean that it's bad but I prefer other places in Utrecht over this one.

Amazing vibe and good food - Edit
The restaurant itself is gorgeous. It was very busy when I went and had a great atmosphere. The menu is clearly labelled with and vegan and veggie section and they make clear which items are vegan, and which can be veganised. I had the vegan duck which was okay, and the curry was good, tasted nice but nothing spectacular. It has a lower price point than a lot of other places so I would recommend it.

The inside of Ānān looks like you are on a street market enjoying street food. The restaurant has a full menu of vegetarian and vegan options. The food comes in small sizes which you can share (unless you choose a big size, of course), so you can try many dishes. The meat and fish replacements do kind of taste similar but, honestly, in every dish it was delicious so it did not bother me that much. The price is good, but the service wasn’t that great. I was with a group, in which only two are vegetarian/vegan. So we ordered the food by its number to keep track of the different diet wishes, but for the staff it felt like too hard to deliver the dishes in this way. Instead, we continuously had to ask which number the dishes were in order to separate the vegetarian/vegan food. Often, the staff did not know what was what which came over as they were not that knowledgeable about their own food.
