best farm store in all of western mass - Edit
four stars only because it's not all vegan/plant-based options but they make a great effort (e.g. local tofu, tempeh, mushroom bacon, plant milks, and local vegan soaps are standouts).
Read moremostly i come to Atlas Farm for the plethora of fresh local fruits and veggies, which change with the season. i am often disappointed by the co-op's (River Valley, both locations) selection of local veggies and fruits but i am always guaranteed to find what i'm looking for here and often something new to try - strawberries, grapes, raspberries, currants, cantaloupes, fresh baguettes, loose leaf tea, pickles, tomatoes, herbs, greens (arugula, salad greens), mushrooms, bok choy, tokyo bekana, kale, carrots, onions, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower... you name it, if it's in season in western mass, Atlas Farm is either growing it or sourcing from other nearby farms (Old Friends, Kitchen Garden, etc.).
they also stock lots of local grains (flours, polenta - is polenta a grain? idk but it's next to the flour and it's delicious with tokyo bekana and some tiny tomatoes), popcorn, chips, salsa, dried beans, jarred tomatoes to get through the rough winters without fresh tomatoes (though they often have delicious greenhouse tomatoes through the cold season). just about everything you need for a well-stocked vegan pantry.
prepared foods leave something to be desired as most are vegetarian-not-vegan but really i come here for ingredients, not ready-made meals. though they do make a vegan chocolate cookie that is really good despite being gluten-free.
Pros: delicious local fruits and veggies, very reasonable prices, easy parking
Cons: wish they didn't sell any meat or dairy, most prepared foods aren't vegan
