Fine Dining Experience - Edit
It had been a few years, back when the place was quite small. I delighted to discover the expanded, spacious new venue! Lots of tables, indoor and out, with beautiful decor, including raw Madagascan wood paneling and hand carved chairs (truly works of art!), creative and tasteful lighting, and very cool Ethiopian music at the perfect volume played over a nice sound system.
Read moreWith time for a quick lunch, I ordered the platter with two entres. I chose Gomen and Shiro Wot and a Sambusa appetizer. I found the hot sauce a bit tart, but plenty spicy, and the Sambusa finely prepared and delicately tasty. The large, ornate and antique-looking platter artfully included the perfect amount of injera (of course!), along with a lovely salad of greens, tomato and onion, all beautifully presented.
As this cuisine is best enjoyed with the fingers, I appreciated the inclusion of hand sanitizer on every table.
I look forward to discovering the Coffee Ceremony, when I have someone to join me.

love how many vegan options there are in ethiopian cuisine! the best curry we had was the yesuf fit fit. i’ve never had sunflower, but it was delicious! and the injera is unreal! prepare to be stuffed.. the portions are huge, and great for the price

Amazing Ethiopian Cuisine in Phoenix with heaps of vegan options - Edit
This was my first dining out experience in Phoenix. It delivered! I am a longtime fan of Ethiopian cuisine and a longtime vegan. At Ethiopian restaurants I usually always opt for the veggie combo. The drill here is you can order a two item or four item veggie combo that comes with salad. The two item or four item veggie combo both come with a choice between two or four of the 10 veggie items. I asked for my server’s recommendation. He suggested shiro wot aka chickpeas, mesir wot aka red split lentils, tikel gomen and keyser aka the last two were beets and potatoes and cabbage and carrots. I appreciated the recommendation for when the food came out everything was quite alright and delivered. It was tasty and both the chickpeas and red split lentils were spicy. I loved how the meal came with no silverware, only napkins and the injera bread to eat the meal with your hands as is traditional without silverware.

The meal and service provided plenty of light though. There are plenty of wonderful Ethiopian restaurants in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. I live in San Francisco and used to live in the East Bay. I have high standards for Ethiopian food and they deliver here.
I especially like the 10 items to choose from and the variety and authenticity of the cuisine aka served with no silverware. In a word…Yes!

This place smacks. Had the four piece sampler and everything was delicious. Super affordable too. $14 had two hungry people stuffed. I imagine everything is a 10/10 so don't be afraid to try that new thing.

The price for the portions is great and is a great place to go for sharing! Will definitely come again.

My husband and I love coming here for a tasty vegan lunch that does not break the bank. All of the vegetarian samplers are vegan. My husband and I got the sampler for two and with a 20% tip, we only paid $20.86 for a healthy and filling lunch. 10/10 recommend eating here

Authentic Ethiopian and extremely affordable. My boyfriend and I split the Veggie combo plate and it was enough for the both of us (not to mention only $11.99). Service is kind and friendly but not the fastest.

My wife and I shared a sampler platter that was something like $11, and we not only were stuffed full of delicious food, but we even had leftovers for another single meal. The owner was so nice, and though it’s a little tight in there, I think most people get takeout and don’t actually sit down and eat. We really really liked the food, and are looking forward to heading back.

I love Ethiopian cuisine, and I especially love that they have so many vegan dishes. That being said, it pains me to have to rate this establishment as sub-par. It may have just been an off day.
Read moreI arrived around 11:30am. We were the only ones there. I ordered a vegan plate. I was advised I could choose 4 sides, so I chose Misir Wat, Tikel Gomen, Gomen, & Shiro (sp?). My lunch companion is a meat eater; she requested Doro Wat, but was advised they didn't have that today. So, make that 2 vegan plates. No problem.
40 min later our food comes out. I'm very patient, so I wasn't too bothered or upset by this. Then I tried to pay. "No cash?" she asked, as I stand with my credit card in hand. I simply replied, "No." She said that she didn't have the password. I didn't even ask why a password was needed to swipe my card. She called somebody, then informed me that he was on his way. Who? The password?? So we sit...
A man arrived @ 15-20 min later, apologizing profusely. As he processed the charge ($20; $10 per plate), he chatted me up. He asked if it was our first time, and inquired how we heard about them. I answered accordingly. He then requested I rate them highly. Enter my side eye. I was ok with the hour it took to get and subsequently pay for our meal. But when you attempt to solicit unwarranted praise for subpar service, you've now picked my pickle, mister. You didn't even offer me a discount for the inconvenience.
The food:
misir wat & gomen were good, but I've had much better misir wat.
Tikel gomen was undercooked. My cabbage was almost crunchy
Shiro (sp?) was ok.
The portions of veggies were very small. And I eat small portions. There was a ton of injera bread though. Pity, because it went to waste.
Again, maybe it was an off day, but I don't plan on returning to find out.

Incredibly great! - Edit
This family owned and run restaurant made my day today. They have some really awesome artwork on the building and inside, however I have driven past many times with out ever knowing it was there. It is my loss to have not noticed it sooner. The price was more than reasonable for 100 percent authentic Ethiopian food. I am moving away this week, but I know that I will be eating here again. It is designed more for you to order and pick up, or they even can deliver it to you, but they were completely hospitable and welcoming for us to sit there and eat. All we had to say was that we did not eat meat, and they had a vegetarian special running that took care of all our cravings. Beautiful and kind personalities behind family recipe's makes this place an A+!
