Best vegan BBQ there is

Hands down the best vegan BBQ I’ve ever had. Vegan options are clearly marked with a carrot and staff is very knowledgeable, the soy “chicken” and pulled jackfruit were both outstanding and you’ll have plenty of sides to choose from. They also have a hot sauce bar with local sauces.

Pros: Great food, Knowledgeable and friendly staff, Fun decor

Great vegan bbq and sides

BBQ soy curls were delicious. So many vegan side dishes too! We had the collards and cornbread…both were excellent. A surprising find in east Asheville!

Vegan bbq options

The vegan soy curls were smoky and flavorful. The baked beans were delicious with a slight spiciness. The collard were good. The place is clean and the art on the walls was much appreciated.

Great choices and price

We loved the cornbread! The soy curls and baked beans were phenomenal. Very clear menu and clearly labelled vegan items.

Pros: Several vegan options, Soy curls are phenomenal , Cornbread is vegan!

Try the soy curls, they’re smoky!

Great southern food. I thought the soy curls had better texture than the jackfruit.

Nice Place

The female staff was very friendly and helpful in discussing vegan options. She kindly took our information to allow us to do curbside.

The male staff was short with us and not very friendly.

We were told they were out of jackfruit at the moment and the potato salad was not vegan as it contained mayo.

We got the dinner plate which was around $10 per person, however if you go before 3pm you can get the lunch special which is about $7

Soy Curls: choose the sauce: vinegar, spicy or sweet and spicy, we chose sweet and spicy. The sauce was really nice.

Side Options that are vegan:
Vinegar coleslaw: we didn't get this time
Vinegar cucumbers: Really nice and fresh
Baked beans: really good flavor
Collard Greens: a bit bland but ok
Cornbread: pretty good, wasn't stale and had a good balance of flavor

Parking: it's in a strip mall so there was plenty of parking

Covid: staff were wearing masks. It didn't seem like they were used to getting requests for curbside, but they accommodated us by taking our cc info over the phone and bringing out our food when we arrived. They did this very promptly and the lady was very nice about it.

Overall we really liked having this option in the area and would return.

Bear-y good

Quite tasty! I had the veggie-que sampler which means you get to try the jackfruit and the soy curl bbq plus 2 sides and a dinner roll or cornbread. I had the collard greens and potato salad. My husband had the soy curl sandwich with sweet potato crunch. We both liked the soy curls better than the jackfruit. I definitely ate it all, though! You get a little side cup of a bbq sauce of your choice to add to your bbq. It comes with a little "regular" sauce on it already. I tried the Alabama white (mayonnaise based) sauce which was very good! My husband really liked the blueberry soda. All containers (except sauce) were paper, take out silverware was wood, straw was paper.

Best vegan BBQ I’ve had

What an amazing find! The jackfruit BBQ here is spectacular, and the collards and cornbread were delicious as well. They have a porch area outside where you can sit and they’ll bring out your food to you. We had such a great experience, next time we are back in Asheville we will definitely be back!

Half each of the jackfruit sandwich and soy curls sandwich. Definitely recommend the jackfruit over the soy curls. at Black Bear BBQ in Asheville

GREAT vegan BBQ options!

We tried the vegan soy curl BBQ sandwich, vegan cornbread, and vegan baked beans. All were superb. Probably the best vegan BBQ we’ve ever had. The jackfruit was sold out, so we couldn’t try that. Only downside is that I think we were charged a surcharge because of the issues in meat supply during COVID-19 (there was a sign stating that there was an upcharge because of meat prices). The receipt didn’t specify anything, so I don’t know if we were charged that. We obviously didn’t order any meat, so I don’t think we should be charged an extra percentage due to carnists. Nonetheless, their vegan options rock.

Pros: Vegan options are delicious, A ton of the sides are vegan

Cons: Non-vegan restaurant😒

Great option for BBQ if you’re also with meat-eaters

Staff was fully educated on how to veganize!

Jackfruit BBQ

The Jackfruit BBQ was good. They offer many vegetarian sides. The coleslaw, potato salad, collard greens, and baked beans that we tried were good. The place was nicely renovated. They did serve us dinner rolls instead of cornbread and a bun.
