Amazing Ethiopian food (best in the Bay Area by a large margin)

Huge fan of Cafe Colucci. I eat here regularly. Vegan sampler is phenomenal. The richness of flavors and the variety are top notch. Everything goes together so well and you can also eat each item on it's own. Love the injera (they have a regular house blend and teff injera as well). Deserves 5 stars. Service is great and friendly and the layout / vibe is also very nice. Can't speak highly enough of this spot. A true gem.

Pros: vibrant flavors and great variety

Excellent

The restaurant smells amazing as soon as you walk in. The menu has a clearly labeled vegan section, including two sampler options, which were delicious.

Delicious!

We picked up food from Cafe Colucci and brought it home to eat. It's especially great for takeout because the food will retain its freshness as you navigate home or to a picnic table.

We had the vegan combo as well as mushroom tibs, a dish of sauteed mushrooms, onions and bell peppers served with a side salad. Both were delicious. The vegan combo was an assortment of various items, presented in a colorful fashion on a round, foil take-out container.

Servings are substantial, so if you're not too hungry, you can order one dish and some extra injera and make that a meal.

An Oakland Fave

Wish the app would let me give five stars because it is incredible. The staff is super chill. I recommend sitting at the bar. The vegan sampler and Ethiopian coffee are my faves. You can also ask for the baklava without honey.

Super tasty and great spice shop too.

Has good vegan selection. Vegan platter is excellent. They also have a spice shop that sells spices and they even make a vegan Ethiopian spiced “butter” for cooking.

Pros: Vegan platter is excellent

The vegan section is almost half the menu

So many vegan options, but of course, the Vegan Sampler is where it’s at. Always good service, friendly people, good drinks.

SO DARN GOOD

The vegan sampler was perfect. Such nourishing food. Plenty of protein and the cold salads were amazing. I needed this good food so badly!

Expected more

I got the vegan combination platter and some of the dishes were good, but others were just unappetizing. With so much great Ethiopian food in the area, unfortunately I wouldn't eat here again considering it's a bit more expensive, I didn't like the flavors as much, and Cafe Colucci lacks some of the creative vegan menu options that are present at competitors in the area

So darn good

I was open to Ethiopian so my brother took us here saying it was the best Ethiopian place in the Bay Area. I ordered the #1 item on the vegan menu and ate just that with the dumplings appetizer? Something veggie… gyoza?

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Great price

Love this place, been coming here for years.

Love this place, been coming here for years. Good selection of vegan options, including vegan veggie sampler, and mushroom tibs, which is my favorite. Messer shorba lentil soup is really good when they have it, though can be a tad salty. Their injera is also really good.

Pros: Good selection of vegan options, Friendly staff

Cons: Sometimes service is slow when they are busy

Tastey Vegan GF meal

Can order the vegan platter with gluten free teff injera (for celiac folks). We ordered the platters to go and mine was clearly labeled with a gf sticker. I thought it was very tastey!

Found meat in a vegan dish. :(

Okay, so this is a 1 star review because of the piece of meat I found in our food off the clearly labeled vegan menu. If this hadn't happened, and I'm assuming it doesn't happen often (?), would have been a 3 star experience. Details...

My friend and I ordered the veggie combo and the mushroom tibs off the Savory Vegan Dishes section of the menu, confirmed everything was vegan.

In the middle of the meal, I felt something weird in my mouth, spit it out and confirmed my suspicion that it was a big cube of meat. Sigh....

I told the waitress. She was very sweet and apologetic, seemed genuinely concerned and took the story back to the manager, or at least that's what she said she'd do.

She also comped the mushroom dish (which is where the meat snuck in, I think) and gave us a free dessert, which I thought was a fair enough resolution for my sake. Of course there's really no apologizing for something like this, it just shouldn't happen.

I will not be returning, and I hope Cafe Colucci will either step up their cross-contamination-avoidance game in a big way, or stop advertising to vegans so heavily!!!!

If there hadn't been meat in our food - it was okay, but not anywhere close to the best veg Ethiopian I've had. The veggie combo was $16 and only meant to serve one, which is on the super-pricey side in my experience with Ethiopian, I really prefer big veggie combos meant for 2. The sharing is the fun part!

So... eat at your own risk. Or go to a veg place like Cafe Daria or Kaffa.

Pros: decent food, nice waitstaff

Cons: MEAT IN THE VEGAN DISH!!!!EXCLAMATIONMARK, outdoor seating was kinda uncomfortable, pricey

Friendly place with good vegan menu section

I was walking by while hungry when I noticed their sign out front saying "Vegetarian", and thought I'd try it out. I was way happy I did. There is a vegan section on the menu, with lots to choose from. I chose the "Veggie Combo", and was given a large amount of really good vegan food! (Too much to eat, but I ate it all anyway, 'cause it tasted so good.) I was provided with plenty of injera bread (which is all gluten free) to eat it all (with more available, if I wanted it.)

Pros: yummy vegan options, big portions, friendly
