Amazing place with amazing hosts - Edit
Perfect way to have fun learning about Vietnamese food with an amazing host. The market tour was super informative and a short walk from the restaurant. Afterwards we were taken step by step through the process of making our own three dishes which were all delicious and gave us the confidence to try when back at home. The host Thu could not have been more friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The whole experience was perfectly organised and seamless so if you’re thinking of joining a cooking class whether vegan or not, this is highly recommended

Cooking and entertaining - Edit
The cooking class was excellent. Thu was a wonderful guide and cooking instructor. She took us around the market and let us try different fruit and cake before bringing us back to the restaurant to make the food. My partner and I had a really great time and will remember our class forever. Thank you Thu and the chickpea family!

Good sandwiches with nice terrace - Edit
We had the chickpea sandwich and the vegan beef sandwich. The chickpea sandwich is with falafel, not the best falafel I had in Vietnam but also not the worst 😂. The vegan beef sandwich was really good, it has pieces (I think black beans) that are similar to falafel, not much taste, but the pesto sauce they have in the sandwich is really good!

This place is a real gem for vegan food lovers. The menu offers authentic Vietnamese flavors made fully plant-based, using fresh ingredients. Portions are satisfying, prices are fair, and the atmosphere is calm and welcoming. The vegan cooking classes are a great bonus if you want a deeper food experience.

Great food and Class - Edit
What a wonderful little place. We enjoyed both a trip for dinner (which was great) as well as a vegan cooking class the next afternoon. They were friendly, energetic, competent, informative and knowledgeable. We made the separate dishes, all of work we enjoyed. The hands on practice really gives more confidence that you can do it at home. Chickpea is a good example that vegan food can be really delicious and accessible.

Great vibes and good food - Edit
Nicely decorated restaurant with pleasant outside seating. Cao lau was delicious and they had a unique fried wonton soup where the fried wontons came separately to dunk in the broth. We also tried the vegan cheese platter, which was a nice surprise to try vegan cheese with local flavors.

Great restaurant - Edit
Visited the restaurant because of the good reviews (though most here are about the cooking class haha) and was still blown away. The food here is really, really good. They know very well what vegan is and blow you away with their dishes. Service is very good too.
Read moreWe tried the wonton noodles, which were great and included deliciously fried wonton. The cau lau, my favourite local Hoi A dish, which was outstanding. We decided to finish with a cheese platter, which at 320k is the cheapest dish I’ve ever had in Vietnam but any local vegan cheese maker I can support, I will. It was really good and included the cheese they had available that day, dragon, garlic and pesto. The cheeses were great and the whole platter was a feast. It’s quite big, we finished it with 2 after also 2 mains but it was a lot!
It may have become my favourite restaurant in Hoi An, it’s so tasty!! It seems mostly frequented by Western tourists so maybe they adapt to Western tastebuds. Also some dishes area bit more expensive than what they could cost at other restaurants. But I think it’s worth the price

Would recommend to anyone and everyone! - Edit
Chickpea Eatery's vegan cooking class exceeded my expectations in every way. We began with a brief introduction from our host, Anh Thu, who shared insights about Vietnam, Chickpea Eatery, and their vision for promoting more vegan lifestyle options in the country.
Read moreFollowing the introduction, we took a market tour where Anh Thu shared fascinating facts about Hoi An. At the market, we learned about the various ingredients and fresh produce available. One kind vendor even invited us to enjoy a complimentary fruit tasting along with refreshing coconut water! My husband and I ended up purchasing some coconut flakes we had tried, which were available for less than a dollar a bag.
When we returned to the restaurant, all the ingredients were laid out for us, making it feel like we were on a cooking show. The instructions were easy to follow, and we enjoyed tasting the food as we cooked. Our host took pictures of us during the process, which was a lovely keepsake and allowed us to focus on the cooking experience. We ended up eating a lot while we were there and took home two bags of the dishes we prepared.
We were joined by three other participants who were also wonderful. We are incredibly grateful for this experience, and when we return to Vietnam, this will be the first thing we add to our itinerary!
Pros: Holistic Experience, Cultural Learning, Friendly Staff
Cons: The class went over time, not a con but FYi

Top notch cooking class - Edit
I had an amazing day with Thu, her enthusiasm and passion for Vietnamese culture and cooking was very infectious. The dishes were incredible as well! The recipes were provided afterwards. We got fruit at the market and a small gift to take back home as well as lots of leftover food. So glad I went! Highly recommend.

Must-Visit Spot in Hoi An 👏 - Edit
This ended up being the best food we had in Hoi An. The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet alley at the end of the street, which made it feel like a great little find. We started with the pineapple juice, which tasted incredibly fresh, and the taro spring rolls — crispy, flavorful, and a perfect way to start the meal.
Read moreFor mains, we ordered the tofu scramble baguette and the falafel sandwich. Both were really good, but the tofu scramble baguette was the standout dish of the whole experience. I would honestly come back just for that and eat it over and over again. They also had a delicious homemade chili jam that I added to everything because it was that good.
The staff was very friendly, and I’m still shocked the whole meal was only about $11–12. Great flavors, great value, and absolutely worth visiting.

Highly recommend the cooking class! - Edit
I did the vegan cooking class in Hoi An (they also have one in Da Nang) and it was really more than a cooking class. It's a half-day activity that includes a short tour of the old town and a visit to the market where we got to learn about different vegan products and try some fruit. Our guide and cooking teacher Thu was so lovely and knowledgeable, she made the day so special. The food itself is honestly so delicious, you make generous portions of 3 different dishes. Such a great experience and definitely a highlight of my trip to Vietnam, I highly recommend it to all vegans and non-vegans visiting Hoi An.

More than just delicious food - Edit
We found Chickpea Eatery just enough off the beaten track of the old town to be peaceful.
Read moreIt has a balanced menu with lots of traditional Vietnamese starters which you could eat tapas-style (bao buns, BBQ tempeh, etc). However, the mains and desserts are where they shine.
There are traditional mains like Hoi An noodles (very hard to find a vegan version) and Bun Chà; other Asian options like Wonton soup (I had this and it was to die for), and also Western/ Mexican options like a quesadilla, Alfredo pasta, or burger. I think even the fussiest eater would find something they’d like.
The desserts were limited in availability when we went, with only two of four in stock. However, the beetroot brownie in particular was maybe the best vegan brownie I have ever had: so moist and rich, just sweet enough.
They also do smoothies, smoothie bowls and golden milk here. It’s good to note they don’t add extra sugar to their juices like other establishments do.
What we loved most was their philosophy. They donate all their tips to charity, have cute vegan art everywhere, and have passages from Thich Nhat Hanh about mindful eating in the menus. This is a place to be totally present with delicious food and loved ones!
It is also comparable in prices to other top HappyCow establishments in the area. We paid 450k VND for two mains, two drinks, two desserts, and two smoothie bowls (for breakfast the next day!). The staff were also friendly and warm.
Pros: Delicious food , Vegan philosophy , Cute setting
