Good vegan breakfast options and a few sweets

Cristaudo's has been my go-to for vegan breakfasts and the occasional sweet since I learned about bad business practices of a local vegetarian cafe. Cristaudo's breakfast options include vegan biscuits and gravy, a bagel "egg between" where you can sub tofu or blackened tempeh for the egg, and a curried tofu scramble. They even have vegan cheese to sub for the dairy cheese (unlike the aforementioned cafe). Unfortunately, none of these options include home fries, so it can be a little pricey if you want more than just one item. I'm not sure about vegan lunch options as I've never gone at lunchtime.

They usually have one flavor of vegan cupcakes in the bakery case as well as QT Pies (like fresh vegan "PopTarts"), and their cream horns are "accidentally vegan" although they're not labeled as such. Just ask about the cream horns if you go to make sure they didn't switch to a non-vegan shortening.

There's a cute gift shop area as you walk in filled with interesting items and all kinds of great finds from local artisans. In Sundays, there's almost always live music by local musicians. Cristaudo's has been a big part of Southern Illinois Collaborative Kitchen since the beginning of the pandemic helping to provide free or "pay-what-you-can" meals to those in need (pre-order on Wednesday/Thursday for Saturday pickup).

I only gave three stars because they're not a fully vegan restaurant, an occasional change in options would be nice, and because of the lack of vegan sweets in the bakery case compared to the non-vegan options.

Pros: At least three vegan breakfast options , Always two or three vegan sweets available , Everything usually tastes good

Cons: Price, Limited vegan baked goods , Same meal options every time
