Amazing Bed & Breakfast

We stayed here for a few days while visiting the Keys and our visit has been incredible and exceeded our expectations. Harry and Jen are active in local conservation efforts and can share all about the environment and how we can both nurture it and enjoy it.

Food: We were welcomed with the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had. We’ve had delicious housemade pastries every morning with fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and juice. You can preorder Jen’s box lunches that are absolutely amazing and pick them up at breakfast. There is a good sized small fridge in your room you can pop them in or borrow one of their coolers if you are heading out for the afternoon. The box lunches are so good that we’d recommend them even if you have lunch plans- get one for dinner! We had tofu egg salad wraps, side salad (a kale salad one day and potato salad the next and they were each so delicious,) fruit, cookies, and a drink. Not only were they healthy, filling, and tasty, they were a great value. (Prices may change but they were $15 each when we were here.)

Amenities: We utilized the kayaks on two days and the bikes and had a great time. Our room had a super comfortable bed, nice bathroom, fridge, comfy seating inside and and great set up on the porch. There is ample ocean front seating throughout the property, an outdoor shower and a cool salt water dipping pool (which was super refreshing after a bike ride.) Best of all, you get to co-exist with the endangered key deer who will come around as they browse.

Wildlife: In addition to the Key Deer, we saw and heard lots of birds, and while kayaking even more including roseate spoonbills. We also saw several different types of sharks, barracuda, horseshoe crabs, jellies, a manta ray and a sea turtle.

Jen and Harry were terrific hosts and staying at a vegan BnB is such a gift and worth going the extra miles to get to do!

Beautiful and peaceful

We had a beautiful 3 night stay in the king room, ocean front. The room was wonderful, spacious, clean, with its own private balcony overlooking the beach - where we could watch the key deer roam around. It also had a refrigerator. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. Sargassum had invaded the beach sadly. We enjoyed sitting on the veranda after breakfast each morning. Harry was a very welcoming host. We loved the cash honor bar for drinks (which they donate to animal shelters). Jen also makes and sells jewelry and ornaments on site. I loved the pro-vegan signs all around too. Breakfast was self serve each morning. We had the option of cakes or a fruit from the bowl. I would say that was the only disappointment- 3 mornings of eating cake for breakfast was a bit much, although it was delicious. There isn’t really much thought into the different options for breakfast offerings, which was a shame seeing as we came to support a vegan B&B. I’m glad we spent 3 nights of our vacation here - the location is gorgeous, the hosts were wonderful and the key deer are just a joy to watch.

A wonderful place to visit!

This is our second time visiting Deer Run (the first time since Irma hit) and it was as amazing as ever. A lot of the property was renovated after the hurricane. It is such a relaxing, quiet spot. The room was beautiful and comfortable, and the amenities are excellent. The breakfasts are so delicious, and so much food!! There are kayaks and bikes available for guest use. I appreciated the additional precautions taken to keep the place safe from Covid. I highly recommend a visit here!

peaceful getaway

This place is one of the most welcoming places ive ever been too. this place was super quiet. the breakfast was all vegan and delicious every morning. there are no microwaves at this place, so just imagine how fresh all the food is here. the room was very private and spacious for me and my wife. the room, and property is super clean. All in all i would of given this place more stars but happy cow cuts it off at 5. the couple running the place live on site and helped us with anything we needed right away. They are super cool, and fun to have vegan convos with. Next time we go to keys i wouldnt stay any where else.

Pros: all vegan.

Vegan and Eco-Friendly B&B Gem in the Florida Keys!

With everything going on, we needed to "decompress" for a few days. I was looking around the interwebs and wanted to find a Vegan B&B. Actually found one on Happy Cow and it got good reviews so we decided to try it out.

I'm so glad we did!!! Deer Run on the Atlantic was amazing! It is vegan owned and operated. The owners are super nice, and one of them even works with a turtle rescue and education organization.

They are under full Covid-19 protocols and we felt VERY safe and secure.

The room was immaculate and 50 feet from the beach! When we checked in, Little Key deer came right up to us to explore. We checked in and got a tour, and then settle in. The B&B is also VERY eco-friendly. There is re-claimed wood everywhere. Organic sheets and towels and cruelty-free toiletries. The breakfasts were awesome! Very tasty, and very filling.

You can go swimming, kayaking or bike (free from the B&B), sit on a beach chair and read or relax. They do have wifi, but I actually unplugged for a few days. They also have an honor bar with $1 sodas and $2 beers.

There is a Key Deer Nature Reserve close by. There are a few shops in town that have vegan options, and it took maybe 35 minutes to drive to Key West. If you need to unwind for a weekend or more, please support this great B&B! The entire property is smoke-free and they have

Pros: Vegan Owners - very friendly, Amazing vegan breakfast included, Room is 50 feet from the ocean

Vegan Paradise. Get here.

It warms my heart to know a place like this exists. Jen and Harry are gracious hosts and wonderful human beings. The Key Deer are absolutely adorable. Jen cooks up a mean vegan breakfast that is truly outstanding. I've traveled a great deal and I can honestly say, this will go down as one of the most memorable vacations of my life. Deer Run B&B should be on every vegan's bucket list. Plan a whole vacation around this place. Stay a week. Breathe. Relax. Let your cares drift away.

Pros: Jen's cooking, Eco-friendly, Peaceful

a slice of vegan heaven

Where to start? Deer Run is a slice of heaven. Very apropos that we stayed in the "Heaven" room, upstairs and oceanfront with a lovely screen porch to enjoy the views from. There is a saltwater pool and spa as well as kayaks available for the ocean and a pass to the nearby Bahia Honda beach. The entire inn is absolutely vegan, so it's lovely to enjoy a vacation without a single worry. It's also green as much as possible, from the landscaping to the flushable composting toilet to the curtains and bedding. The breakfasts are organic and divine. They alternate days between sweet and savory. We got pancakes, frittata with potatoes and waffles. Everything is served with a baked good (i.e. muffin, scone) and fruit. Smoothies and great coffee too! There are Key deer all over the island and they are quite friendly, so it's hard to resist feeding them (it's against the law too). Best of all are the innkeepers, Jen and Harry. They are vegans trying to share the message with their community. Most guests are not vegan either, so it's a wonderful opportunity to plant seeds. As fellow vegans, we enjoyed chatting with them and hearing about their experiences in the Keys. Defintely take them up on their recommendations! We hope to someday return as it was difficult to leave.

Pros: all vegan, wonderful innkeepers, lovely location

Perfect honeymoon location

My husband and I are both vegan, and we wanted a B&B for our honeymoon that would be accomodating. We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw this place. Warm, welcoming proprietors. Tiny key deer wandering through the property. Sangria nights. Moonlit hammock on the beach. Saltwater pool. The most amazing vegan breakfasts we've ever had. We're saving to go back!

Pros: staff, location, food

Cons: none
