Vegan Stroopwafels

One of the only places you can get them in packs! Must see!

big vegan section

this health store is one of the larger ones and offers a wide range of vegan products. it's fun to just check the plant-based options out. unfortunately, they don't take cash though

Bad customer service

This supermarket chain is disappointing since you can't pay in cash there. That way the are supporting a development into a cashless, fascist society where everyone is under permanent control and tracking. I left the shop without buying anything because they refused to take my cash. Only cash means freedom but even this they want to take from us. The customer should have the choice how he/she wants to pay, it should not be dictated by the shop owners, banks or politicians. I'm definitely boycotting this chain.

I had to look long and use my translator to double and triple check that their stroopwaffles were vegan! I wish I brought more home with me than I did.

Make your Markt

A very popular store with a beautifully laid out modern interior full of all sorts of groceries one could imagine for any well run vegan / vegetarian kitchen, or hotel room for that matter. There is meat on the premises but easily avoided. A sophisticated range of vegan meats and cheeses are on offer which would put a lot of health food stores to shame. I absolutely love the location on the ridiculously bustling Haarlemmerstraat. It's right on the corner of Prinsengracht, a prime spot indeed. The only problem is that for some reason now they don't accept cash. Card only. A bit embarrasimg when you have a basket of groceries at the check out.

Pros: fresh, modern, location

Cons: no cash, meat

Read all ingredients...

I have to agree with the previous reviewer - this shop is really only for fruit and veg. It is large but doesn't have many vegan items at all, and for a health food store, I end up squinting at ingredient lists on everything just as often as I would in a regular supermarket. There are few clearly labelled vegan items or well-known vegan brands I can grab quickly. Sometimes I find something really nice by surprise - bread made out of dates for example - but it is necessary to navigate through much cheese and fish to find something. It's not a bad shop, but there are better alternatives in the area. Oh, and don't forget - no cash, it's cards only.

Pros: location

Cons: not much for vegans, price

Good for fresh produce, lacking in some areas

Large organic grocery store, includes animals products. Lots of fresh produce, an orange-juicing machine, bakery, snack food, etc.
I was very disappointed in the poor selection of non-dairy milks: only Provamel soymilk and chocolate or vanilla rice milk (what about all the other alternatives?). As for soy yogurt, there was just plain and a four-pack of raspberry. There’s also no bulk section. And I didn’t find packets of oatmeal that you just add boiling water to. This store could do better!
The strangest (and most unliked) thing is that you can’t use cash, you must pay with a credit (or debit?) card.

Pros: fresh produce

Cons: poor selection of non-dairy milks, can't use cash
