Very Disappointed

The bad news: Lack of vegan options. There were only 2 vegan selections on the menu. One was an appetizer (the beet "steak") and one was a vegan casado. The vegan casado was $25 for rice, beans, plantains and mixed vegetables. That would have been fine if they were served with a special sauce or prepared in any way that made the dish flavorful or unique. The rice was plain white rice that I can make at home in a microwave, same for the black beans. There was nothing special to the meal and I felt like not only did I waste my money, but I wasted a meal here.

The experience was particularly disappointing because the resort is supposed to be the most eco-aware in Manuel Antonio. If management hasn't made the connection between adopting a vegan diet and saving the environment, how ecologically aware can they be?

The good: The staff is outstanding. Absolute excellence. Great wine list, by the bottle and by the glass. Charming open-air dining. Magical location. The one thing El Mirador is doing right is their preservation of the wildlife habitat on their grounds. The golf cart ride through the jungle to the restaurant is phenomenal. El Mirador was build around a number of full grown trees which were not cut down and grown "through" the restaurant. Still, if you are vegan, call ahead and ask what vegan dishes are on the menu.

Great Food, Ambiance, Ocean View - romantic

Once you get over the slightly treacherous drive down a dirt road to arrive at this place, you will be enchanted by its beauty and will be glad you made the trek. Once you park, they take you by golf cart to the top of the hill through a mystical rain forest to the lovely restaurant located with a perfect view of the ocean. If you want to have a romantic dinner, this is the place to go. The service was excellent and us being vegetarians, had an excellent meal, with some of the dishes modified by the chef to suit our dietary needs. They could do stuff for vegans too! Not only was the presentation of the food excellent, but it tasted delicious too and it was ample (unlike many gourmet restaurants - where you're left hungry after your meal). Their organic wine tasted good and their dessert was divine. We ordered the zucchini rolls and the marinated beet for appetizer, then we had the potato au gratin and vegetable linguini in a white sauce, finished it off with banana and berry flambe accompanied by organic Chilean wine! Oooh I can still taste this sumptuous meal! Don't miss this place! It's pricey but well worth it!

Pros: Ocean View, Great Food, Great Service

Cons: Hard to Get To
