For sesame lovers!

Convenient if you are around Nijo-jo castle. The food in this place was gorgeous. I paid 1350 tax for a curry set that came with coffee and a small portion of pudding. The food seems to be sesame based so if you are a sesame lover this is your place.

Pros: Great taste , Good service , Many vegan options

Eat here!

This place is a must visit. As other reviewers noted, there are three set menus to choose from - all vegan!

We each ordered the vegetable set and were both completely satisfied. The portions are massive but not the point of overstuffing yourself. (We're going back tomorrow to get a different set. I'm sure it won't disappoint.)

There's a big focus on sesame so if that's not your thing, you probably won't enjoy it. Everybody else: you'll love it!

Pros: All vegan, Perfect, filling portions, Sesame everything!

Cons: don't go here if you have a sesame allergy

No X Factor

Cute little store that also sells other products and packed away vegie snacks for the road. The bento box my husband had was average, it's becoming a commonality to other places we've tried at so no surprises here. The miso ramen was nice and creamy, nice punch of sesame flavour as the base was mainly sesame. Not many other varieties available.

High quality food using only the best sesame products

A must-go for all sesame lovers. Sesame products are handpicked and made by some of the best experts in the field. I had the white sesame curry and nut tart for dessert the first time I went, then tried the chocolate cake and sesame cappuccino the second time. I've also tried their buffet menu for the Kyoto Vegans meetup and everything tasted really fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place to people who want to enjoy food that are made with healthy and high quality ingredients.

Amazing food

Everything looked vegan - I had the ramen set meal and it was great!! Comes with a small vegan dessert and coffee too! Prepare for lots of sesame! They didn’t have the vegan burger in stock when I came but it looked great on the menu. Price was reasonable for what I had!

healthy and filling

The lunch time vegetable plate is full of a variety of vegetables. We were very full, the sesame ramen (yes there is a sesame theme) is cool too. Super nice service, they seemed genuinely happy to have us in their restaurant.

Pros: filling (lots of food) , healthy, many vegetables, friendly service

Heaven for sesame-lovers

I had a lot of great food in Kyoto, and Gomacro was right up there with the best. I happily would've returned many times to sample the whole menu had I had more time. With only one meal here, however, I went for the daily special set menu, which was a noodle curry dish with four small sides, plus a mini-dessert, and all of it was so exquisite that I could've kept ordering long after I was full.

Service was warm and helpful, and brought joy to the experience. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality.

Very highly recommend!

Enjoy!

on a major intersection

Sorry I forgot to take a pic of the front of the restaurant. I hate when traveling and don't know what it looks like, especially in places where I can't communicate well or read. This place however is super close to the castle which is huge. The food is wonderful and two of us ate for about $30 USD. Definitely don't skip this place. Great deal for the money.

Pros: great food and convenient location. you won't miss

Cons: set menus. limited options.

For sesame lovers

Very good but a little too intense with the sesame theme. Everything was loaded with sesame seeds or paste or both. The service was excellent and the food was high quality. The price was a touch on the high side but I can’t remember if everything was organic. If so, then the price is fair. I would give this place a higher rating but there are too many alternatives that I enjoyed more for less. Recommended if you are nearby or if you are a sesame enthusiast.

Pros: High quality food, Clean bright atmosphere

Cons: Intensely sesame, A touch pricey

Worth a visit

There were a lot of different things to try on my set menu, and none of them disappointed. You could sprinkle sesame seeds over each item, and this worked rather well. Quick and friendly service.

Delicious lunch, easy to find

Just three blocks from the Karasuma-Oike subway station, on Oike -dori at the corner of Shinmachi-dori, Go-Macro cafe serves 3 vegan set lunches in a modern, casual space. There are also macrobiotic bento boxes, desserts and a few other prepared foods to go, as well as specialty packaged goods like sesame seeds & oils for sale. We had the macrobiotic platter, with miso soup, green salad, pickled and stewed veggies, seitan, roasted pumpkin, brown rice--a variety of tastes and textures, served quickly in adequate portions (1500JPY, about $15).

Desserts looked wonderful (didn't try them) ; other choices on the English menu were veggie burger & curry. There is a sign outside the ground floor space, making it easy to find.

Pros: Vegan, Tasty, Variety of colors and textures

Cons: Lunch or drinks-dessert only

Very good

We're not the target audience for this ultra-healthy and light food, but it was very well executed and we enjoyed it a lot. The sesame was especially delicious, as was the sesame chai drink. Also, venue and staff were great.

Sesame!

I loved this place. I got the curry which was so rich and creamy - something I've struggled to find since going vegan years ago! I came back later and got a sesame chocolate tart and sesame pudding. Delicious. Highly recommend!

Great food, real concept, helpful staff

My wife found Gomacro with Happy Cow app, for lunch during a day out in Kyoto.

Gomacro combines ingredients free from animal products, with Macrobiotics and flavour and health benefits of Sesame (goma).

The welcome at the restaurant was very nice and the very kind staff member serving us explained the menu and very proactively brought me an English version (my wife is Japanese).

We wanted to try various dishes, so we ordered the Gomacro burger, the daily vegetable plate, and a child size portion of curry (which they kindly made to the adult, more spicy taste for us)

We enjoyed everything very much. The produce is very fresh, the bread (bun) for the burger was very good, whole grain with sesame seeds, and the variety of vegetables very pleasing. The brown rice is excellent, and perfectly cooked.

Definitely would enjoy the curry as a full main course, we just wanted a small portion so we didn't over eat!

Along with the good Gomacro makes its own sesame salt, which is actually sesame seeds infused with sea salt. It's very nice as a condiment, much less salty than usual flavoured salts, which is great if you are more in the 'whole food plant based' camp than the 'anything vegan' camp.

Additionally they bring sesame seeds in their own pestle and mortar, and show you how the grind it yourself. Our server explained that different health benefits between white and black sesame to help us choose which to have.

Actually aside from the smell and taste of perfectly roasted, freshly milled sesame, it's quite therapeutic to mill your own sesame seeds!

Finally we had a very nice chocolate brownie with sesame butter. Very delicious and not an overwhelming portion. The accompanying coffee was I have to say spectacular. I'm not qualified to explain quite why, but an amazing and slightly spicy flavour.

Our thanks again to Gomacro, to our very kind and engaging server (who explained at length to my wife answering all our questions).

Macrobiotics!

I am a fan of the macrobiotic diet, so really enjoyed myself at this cafe. The curry was fantastic! I got the ice cream as well, but it was a very small portion. I would definitely go here again!!! You get to grind your own sesame for the meal.

Pros: Friendly Staff, Macrobiotic- Healthy, Filling

Cons: small dessert

SESAME!!!!!

Finally I found a restaurant that loves sesame as much as I do! And it's vegan! I Got the creamy curry with a sesame and almond base. It was so rich and delicious! If I hadn't been completely full up the desserts and drinks look amazing. Sesame chai!

Also they have bento so a great place to pick up a vegan bento for the shinkansen. They let me order mine to pick up the following day.

Pros: Delicious!, Great super friendly service!, Sesame!

Fresh, tasty and traditional veg

Fresh tasting noodle dish with reasonable price and good presentation. Gomacro was the right value for money and just what we needed. The service was great as usual in Japan. Would highly recommend going at lunch as it seems a few of the dishes on the menu are only available then. Lovely venue also.

Pros: Fairly priced for portion , Tasty food, Good atmosphere

Cons: Two of the dishes were sold out on the menu
