misunderstood gem - Edit
a few days before i got this food i walked in but was too late and they had closed. the owner informed me that they were closed for the day and he was sorry. no problem
Read morei went back a few days later; the gentleman working the register was very kind. he helped me navigate how things worked since i hadn’t been there before. i ordered the “V” bagel with capers and mustard(: also grabbed their jalapeño chips. there was fresh orange juice, fruit, and other fun drinks/snacks as-well.
i see many comments about the owners being rude, or the staff. i didn’t see anyone be treated poorly while i was there. and they were very kind to me. they messed up one order, apologized sincerely, and fixed it in seconds. maybe some of you guys need to remember that it’s hotter in there than the 80 degree weather outside, bc ovens, and to treat customer service people with respect. you’ll get the same treatment back.
food was phenomenal. cream cheese has a good amount of flavor that’s not overpowering and i like the additional veggies. felt filling but not heavy. highly recommend adding capers. bagel was HUGE. ❤️🔥 fed me for lunch and dinner. i paid like $16 for the bagel, chips, and coke zero. win in my book. this is right next to my job and i’ll be back

Read morePlease double check your vegetarian/vegan orders as biting into meat can be very upsetting for someone who doesn’t eat that way.
Overall bad service and atmosphere, long wait, expensive, food not hot.

Delicious bagels! - Edit
Classic NYC style bagel shop with Toffuti options as well as avacado mash and curried hummus. They have one bagel sandwich made vegan called “The Original V” but you can custom order too. I’ve come here all 3 days I’ve been in Madison!

I love Gotham and go there every time i’m in Madison. The tofu cream cheese is heavenly and the bagels are really good. Be sure to ask for your toasted bagel vegan or dont get it toasted because a few times i’m pretty sure I tasted butter on my bagel from the toasting it.
Read moreThe staff, especially the owner, are often rude. Not sure if that’s his personality or part of the “experience”. I don’t personally like that vibe but the bagels are so good that I keep coming back and try to interact with the owner as little as possible 🙃

I went here once. The tofu cream cheese is indeed amazing!! That’s the best thing about this place. Unfortunately, for me everything else sucked. Starting with the rude service. The guy who took my order was a total d*ck. His generally-pissed-off-at-the-world vibe seemed to be shared by all the employees. The music was bad. My bagel was stale. Maybe it was just an off day for them and you’ll have a better go of it.

Great stop for breakfast - Edit
The bagels were super delicious and the tofu spread was surprisingly good. I'd never had a spread like that and they slathered it on thick, which was great. Good way to end a weekend trip to Madison!
