The service was slow and lacking:( I had high hope with the reviews. I ordered a salad with extra dressing, it came with an incorrect dressing and no extra dressing. Also no utensils…I had to get up, find the server and ask for a fork…lol. I also ordered a drink that was served way after my salad and it was mediocre at best. Disappointing visit.

What a gem. Tons of clearly marked vegan options, cool vibe, dog friendly, and amazing service. We had the vegan breakfast crepe (with some extras), pretzel with vegan boursin (!!), and beyond burger melt. Great coffee and cocktails too. Highly recommend, and I can’t wait to go back.

So many vegan options, I’ve eaten at this place at least five times! The service has been extremely strange lately though with either tiny versions of the menu or super slow service. The food can also be hot and cold. I’ve had the Charles and cheese (vegan Mac and cheese) like 4 times. 3/4 times it was amazing but once it was super lemony and gross. Still would defiantly recommend! There are vegan crepes, ranch, parfaits, sandwiches and Mac and cheese!!!

I used to go to Gulus many years ago. The atmosphere is super chill and nice. You can sit on one of their couches, play a board game or listen to live music.

The quality has really gone downhill and the service is now awful.
You get yourself seated and the severs will walk by you like nobody is there.
We got up to get someone. The person came and I asked about the two vegan and gluten free dishes they had. I settled on one; a tofu and spinach dish served with cheese and bread.
The server came back and said they were out of the bread and the cheese. I said that then I didn’t want it. She said ‘well, I already put the order in’. Basically saying I had to eat it anyways.
When I said no she confronted me, asking why I was getting upset and then walked away. She walked by just to throw the check on the table.
I left there a bit shaken up.
There was the last time I went.

So glad we found this place- we actually ended up eating here twice in Salem!! Really great variety of vegan options from breakfast to lunch/dinner to dessert. All the staff members were super cool people too which made for a great experience :)

I was pleasantly surprised at how many options there were and that they offer vegan crepes! I got the beyond melt, with beyond burger, vegan cheeze, pickled jalapenos and onions. It felt a little overpriced at $15, though.

The restaurant had a fun vibe, the rest went downhill. I was excited to see they had a few vegan items on the menu. The burger had vegan mayo & vegan cheese but then I was told the patty had egg & dairy in it, why oh why would you do that???? I ordered the killer tofu crepe, which was lack luster at best. The presentation was unappetizing. It was plain tofu, pesto, tomato & onion certainly not a killer tofu! I then ordered bagel chips & hummus because I was still hungry & had not finished my drink.

Hip vibe at the Gulu-Gulu. The Squashroom crepe was one of 4 vegan crepe options, and was great. There were also several other dishes that were vegan (or could be made vegan) or vegetarian. The syrup they use for their mochas is vegan so you can get a delicious and gorgeous vegan mocha with soy or almond milk.

The $9 Bagel Sandwich - Edit
This place has a hipster-like ambiance with hipster art on the walls and a soundtrack to match. Don't let that fool you. The vegan selection kinda sucks. There's one bona-fide vegan item on the entire menu (a wrap), and other items can be "made vegan" by subtracting key ingredients like eggs and cheese at full price. I got a $9 bagel sanwich filled with some veggies and mustard minus said eggs and cheese with no side included. It's a nice accommodation in a pinch, but I think it's a stretch to call this a 'vegetarian-friendly' destination. The service seemed a bit slow too as it took 20 mins to be seen by a server after being seated at a semi-busy time.

Its a bar, lots of alcohol and a very lame food selection. The menu is pretty much all breakfast and snack stuff. Go a few steps own the street to Live Alive and eat a good meal instead. That's what we did!
