Yum! - Edit
I don’t have any criticism. Despite the place being packed the server was attentive and we got our food so fast. There were plenty of vegan options- my partner and I got the vegan breakfast burrito and vegan mac and cheese. It was so gooooood! Ya ya ya ya I’ll be back to try the nachos next >:)))

Awesome Brunch - Edit
Really liked this place - there was a bit of a wait on a Sunday and I totally get why!
Read moreTons of vegan options, Motorhead playing the whole time, dynamite drinks and fun atmosphere. My dish was great and I'll definitely be back when we're in town.
Pros: lots of vegan options, great staff, awesome drinks
Cons: super small space

Great place - Edit
I had the Sambal Tofu bowl. It was excellent! Great atmosphere, cool location. It was a 10 minute wait at around 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon, but that speaks to how popular it is.

Cons: Tables are kind of small, but manageable, No cabs to be found (but Uber works), A little pricey for drinks, but so everywhere...

This place is worth the drive - Edit
We were in town from Minnesota and were looking for a vegan breakfast. This was a 30 minute drive from our hotel and well worth the drive.
Read moreWe had the Handlemuffin and Vegan Chimichanga and both were great and not that expensive. The Handlemuffin is like and egg mcmuffin and came with lots of potatoes. The chimichanga was huge and could easily be shared.
The only downside of this place is the number of tables. We got here at 9am on Sunday and the place is nearly filled by 9:30.
Pros: Chimichanga, Handlemuffin, Artwork on the walls
Cons: Number of tables is limited. Busy place.

Love this place for brunch! - Edit
They have really great vegan options for diner style food. The place is not all vegan though. The fried chicken sandwich is amazing.

Get the Nashville hot - Edit
The Nashville hot might be the perfect “chicken” sandwich.
Read moreMost of the menu is good but unremarkable. The drink menu is similarly mixed. The fried pies and (vegan) chili cheese fries are always great.
Lots of items have cheese/egg by default, so make sure to ask for things explicitly vegan. The staff are great and will clarify if there’s any confusion
Pros: Nice patio

Great vibes and patio - Edit
I’ve eaten here a couple times and it’s a great spot to get vegan comfort food and classic brunch dishes. The fried pickles and the biscuits and gravy are fantastic. Being able to sit on the patio in the summer is very fun. This is a local spot with punk rock vibes I recommend to everyone.
Read morePros: Great cocktails and coffee drinks, Rotating specials, Breakfast and dinner menus served most of the day

As good as a non-vegan place can get - Edit
Excellent food with great vegan options. It’s a pescatarian restaurant, but has many clearly labelled vegan options. It has been one of our go-to restaurants for years.

Great options - too much to try in one meal! - Edit
Great eclectic bar and restaurant with an inviting patio in the back. I had the cauliflower wings (super tasty) and the black bean tostadas. The tostadas were described misleadingly - they were a thick masa patty with black beans, Guac and a bit of fresh red onion and cilantro on top. I was hoping for a crispy shell base and some fresher ingredients like lettuce and pico on top. Still a great meal.

Love Handlebar! - Edit
I love the sandwiches and wraps from here along with the vegan chili mac attack! They also make a pretty amazing vegan queso that I like to dip everything in! It's also great that they're open pretty late and serve Pie Pie My Darling cakes ^-^

Good vegan options - Edit
I like the handlebar. It’s not my favorite place in Chicago to get vegan food, but they have solid options. I recommend the chili cheese fries.

Solid Go-To! - Edit
We always keep Handlebar as a go-to option for quick and tasty vegan options in Chicago, especially because we like to stay in the Wicker Park and Logan Square areas. This restaurant is much more vegan friendly than this listing might let on as well! Good breakfast and brunch too.

Fav Bar Food - Edit
Nashville chicky and Buffalo and so many good options. Fav vegan nachos I’ve had. Breakfast burrito could use an upgrade but Handlebar forever. Favorite vibe, always trying to take every friend here because I know they’d be into it.

pleasantly surprised ! - Edit
note: only street parking, so it may be difficult to park on a busy day. the service was good and the all food came out pretty quickly in my opinion. they were also very clear when it came to vegan/nonvegan dishes and what contained cheese and didn’t contain cheese.
Read morethe first item we ordered was the bbq tot mac (weekly special), which came with bbq pulled mushrooms, tater tots, vegan dream mac, crispy fried onions, and pickles. top notch vegan mac for sure.
the sloppy joe sandwich and nashville hot chicken sandwich were also both tasty; however, the side of collard greens was a bit greasy for my taste. if ordering either of these sandwiches, keep in mind that they are very messy and may take considerable effort to eat! i found the nashville hot chicken to be a little less messy than the sloppy joe, but the sandwiches were both delicious enough that i’d totally order them again anyways.
the current pie, pie my darling cake was chocolate hazelnut. the chocolate cake itself was moist and had a deep flavor without being too rich. the frosting was surprisingly not too rich either; it wasn’t one of those cakes where you only eat the cake and leave all the frosting. the hazelnuts gave the cake a good crunch as well.
overall really happy with my visit,& i will definitely be back. amazing food, especially for a place that isn’t fully vegan. #Veganuary
Pros: lots of options, good price/portion size ratio, attentive to which are vegan / nonvegan dishes
Cons: parking may be difficult , could get really crowded?

It was a smooshy wet mess and no flavor at all in the burrito I ordered. I had high hopes and it let me down.

Solid comfort food - Edit
Tons of vegan comfort food options with large portions. They have specials that rotate, which can be great for additional options, but can also suck when you are craving one of their specials that is no longer on the menu. That being said, all the food is solid and I'm always happy to come back.

Never been a fan of restaurants with vegan-options but Handlebar has officially changed my mind! The HANDLEMUFFIN & CHIMICHANGA were both amazing! The blackened Tofu was cooked to perfection & the Chimichanga itself had an explosion of different textures & flavors!

Downright Delicious - Edit
They have the best vegan french toast I've ever had (ate it all before I thought to take a picture). I wish it came with a slightly larger portion or a side given the price, but I have no regrets.
Read moreThey have a wide selection of vegan dishes. The handlebar muffin (like a mcmuffin) was yummy. The vegan chimichanga was also good, but could've used a stronger, main flavor to help the tastebuds know, "Oh yeah, this is definitely a chimichanga."
Next time I go, I'm going to get the vegan chicken sandwich (which our server recommended). It's spicy, and I don't have much tolerance for heat, but the people next to us ordered it and it smelled amazing.
The oatmeal cream pie is delicious (and a great portion size), and I definitely recommend it over the fried PBJ pie. They're both good, but I didn't like the fried PB taste and texture as much as I thought I would. The pastry on the pie was great, though.
Note: I can't consume caffeine, which includes chocolate, so IDK what the other desserts taste like as they all had chocolate.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Knowledgeable staff, Good food
Cons: Parallel street parking only, A bit pricey

Probably the most bacon tasting vegan bacon I’ve had in the last 9 years since going plant based. If in Chicago area it’s definition worth visiting. As a bonus Metallica music was playing while we were there.
