Lots of yummy vegan options. Great beer on tap. Kind of a small place, but that's okay. Great patio space. And best of all fried pickles!!!!

Fantastic Vegan Dishes! - Edit
I have been here several times and the food is always delicious! I love the ambiance of the outdoor patio and our experience with the staff has always been great. I wish that I could give it 5 stars. We had the vegan nachos, sambal tofu, and chili mac attack. Best advice is to only order the sambal tofu if you can take really spicy food - it was delicious but I had to order plant milk to be able to finish it!

Cons: Some items can be a bit spicy - should denote this, Serves fish - but might need this to keep business

Good vegan food, Bad service - Edit
The vegan food is good but I stopped coming to this restaurant awhile ago because the service is so terrible. The wait staff has never been friendly or care how long you wait for a table. Also you are unable to be seated unless your entire party is present, which is also why I stopped going to this place especially with a group of people. Great outside patio but not dog-friendly unfortunately.

Have Eaten here before years ago but just ordered pickup yesterday. Can’t comment too much on staff/place since irs been so long except that the wait to sit seems long but guy at register was extemely nice!
Read moreThe sloppy joe is really good, I ordered the bun on the side and got filling enough for two sandwiches! Good fries, great vegan Mac (it’s called “vegan dream Mac” ) the cold brew coffee I got in a can was eh. Will drop by again to pick up and try a different item soon.

Fantastic Vegan Options - Edit
1st time here. Street parking available. Indoor, outdoor, and bar seating available.
Read moreI ordered the Handlemuffin (V). The potatoes were basic, no seasoning. After tasting the Handlemuffin, I could see why. The muffin was the star of the plate and didn’t need any competition. Good portion size and nice flavor. The blackened tofu was amazing.
I also had the French Toast (V). 2nd best French toast I have ever had. Great flavor and crispy ends on the bread.
Absolutely loved it and can’t wait to come back.
Pros: Great tasting food, Inviting atmosphere, Good portion sizes
Cons: Not 100% Vegan - other options available

Chimichanga Vegana! - Edit
I was craving chimichangas and this place did NOT disappoint! It could’ve been a tad bit crispier but the flavor was excellent. I also tried 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy and the french toast. The french toast was excellent. The biscuit alone was nothing special, but once the gravy was added it became an amazing combination. I’d love to go back and try more of their vegan offerings.

The chimichanga was insane - Edit
Handlebar is a veg options restaurant because they do serve fish and egg/dairy, but 90% of their menu is vegan. We ordered the Chimichanga, and it was absolutely mindblowing. Imagine a gigantic burrito stuffed to the brim with chorizo seitan, tofu, beans, veggies and rice, deep fried, and then smothered in the best cashew queso and topped with a whole scoop of guacamole?!

this is one of those rare non-vegan restaurants that still manages to overwhelm you with their options—i ended up randomly choosing because too many things looked good! the portion size was insane, we even skipped apps but despite my best efforts to finish i still had leftovers for lunch the next day.

Okay - Edit
My table had the tofu scramble, biscuits and gravy, and vegan breakfast burrito. I love vegan junk food but this was too greasy. Big disappointment for us since many vegan articles pitch this as a “can’t miss” and I am very confused as to why.

fried pickles! - Edit
Best fried pickles I have ever had. Okay, I think I've only had them 3 places, but Handlebar's are the best! Love the buffalo 'chicken' wrap. I think the wrap is a better deal than the salad, personally. Awesome staff. Small but respectable beer menu.

I prob ordered the wrong type of meal - Edit
I thought this place was okay but nothing like other reviews. I got a sandwich that was decent but nothing that would blow me away to bring me back. I went on a solo trip and my waiter was really nice and talkative which was good. Also lots of other solo people there so I felt comfortable!

Good option for Vegans - Edit
Handlebar is a classic for a lot of Chicago vegans. They have plenty of options and their drink menu is great. I love the vibes inside while dining in. I miss it but there is a pandemic happening so yeah. It’s a long wait time for large parties but my boyfriend and I were always able to get in quickly for a two seater table.

Those collards! - Edit
I was visiting from out of town and was very excited to try the biscuits and gravy. Every chance I get to try vegan biscuits and gravy, I take it! I'm used to a more traditional southern style, sausage gravy and biscuits, so I was a little disappointed, but the dish was still very good. Would I order it again?...no.
Read moreMy boyfriend ordered a side of collard greens and garlic mashed potatoes, and holy moly those collards are some of the best I've had! I highly recommend.
