Breakfast on Saturday - Edit
Was not expecting such large portions! Biscuits and Gravy has a unique flavor, still very much scarf-able. Petita Scramble has a fantastic flavor extravaganza on your palette, but the tofu was cubed so not really a “scramble” experience. It was good regardless.

Loud loud loud...but SO good - Edit
Just as other posters have said this place is LOUD. But the food is so good. I have been craving nachos for the past few days and finally was able to scratch that itch! This place is definitely worth a visit.

Bring ear plugs - Edit
Menu super easy to read so you can avoid a tragic vegetarian/vegan order mix up. Place is a popular bar so it gets loud up in there. Onto the food, it is amazing. It will blow your d**k off. Save room for dessert if you can. Slice a cake and an americano. But remember, bring those ear plugs and a book to read. Unless of course, you're dining with others. That'd be awkward, and hard on your ears.

Wish I could give 5 stars - Edit
Been many times and the food is always delicious. Have tried virtually everything on their menu and nothing has let me down. Every friend that I have taken here that isn’t vegetarian or vegan has loved their food, too. They also stick Pie Pie My Darling’s cakes. This place deserves 5 stars, but rules are rules. They should get rid of those few non vegetarian items!

Carrot Dog! - Edit
This is a cool, hip bar/restaurant in a nice area. The live music aspect is cool and I saw they have a nice patio area to hang out. I was so happy to find carrot dogs again as I haven't had one since the middle of last year. My sister had the fish and she really enjoyed it.

Awesome brunch - Edit
I had the chimicanga and my girlfriend had the biscuits and gravy. Both had mimosas which were a great prince on a Saturday morning, wish they were bottomless tho. I really loved my chimicanga and I tried her biscuits and gravy and it was good too. Very good service. I know it's not 100% vegan restaurant but they have so many vegan options, almost as many as the non vegan options.

5 stars!! My go to - Edit
Tons of vegan options, cheap beer ($1 PBR on Mondays) and good vibes. Get the Vegan Chimichanga for breakfast, the Nashville Hot ‘Chicken’ for lunch (ask to make it vegan) and the Sambal Tofu for dinner.

Solid Choice - Edit
This place has always has the most solid choices. It’s a great place to take my Omni family. I’ve love the Nashville sandwich. The best part is definitely the pie pie my darling dessert. So enjoyable to sit on the back patio on a nice day.

A wonderful restaurant with lots of vegan options!! - Edit
Read moreCool indie/punk bar vibe. Fast service. Solid food. Definitely more on the diner food side. Everything I ate was flawless! My two favorite things were the vegan ranch (I dipped everything in it) and the hibiscus mint tea.

Excellent vegan food! - Edit
Their vegan options are amazing! I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while, having heard many good things. I had:
Read moreChili cheese fries: sooooo good with the cashew cheese. Saucy and somewhat reminiscent of gravy, which is great if you like(d) poutine.
Black bean maduros: wow, I wasn’t prepared for how good this was. Unless you hate Venezuelan food for some reason, or can’t handle even a small amount of spice, you should absolutely get this when you first go. The plantains were cooked to perfection in a pile of pico, rice, and delicious beans. The chipotle tomato sauce made it perfect, and I got some more cashew cheese on the side.
For dessert, I had apple empanadas with a scoop of in-house vanilla (n)ice cream on the side. Ugh I’m salivating just remembering this. The ice cream had a slight anise flavor, which I might have just imagined but it was a nice subtle touch.
My only complaint is that not everything was vegan! This place could do a lot with a fully vegan menu.
Pros: Lots of vegan options , Decent prices, Easy (free!) parking during off times
Cons: Kinda dark

Awesome - Edit
Worth the wait. A beautiful menu with lots of choices.
Read moreFor brunch the menu was set up so that almost every non-vegan entree had a corresponding fully vegan entree that wasn't missing any key flavors. Burritos, nachos, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, burgers and lots more options. The biscuits and gravy was delicious and an enormous portion. Tasty ground seitan in a decadent gravy over wheat biscuits, no easy I could finish this giant portion. The chimichanga was awesome too, with a nacho cheeze sauce over the top. Staff was very nice and accommodating. The wait for a table was super long, but we hung out in the bar and had drinks while waiting. Cool, youthful staff and ambiance. I wish there was a Handlebar in every neighborhood!

Breakfast Burrito for the win! - Edit
Dear Voyagers: Come here directly from the airport.
Read moreThe Vegan Chimichunga ($11.25) screamed through the jet lag. Engorged with Uptons Naturals seitan chorizo, fried cubes of tofu, peppers, black beans, short grain brown rice, and smothered in a vegan cashew queso with red guajillo sauce, pico de gallo, and guacamole (and then I added a heavy dose of hot sauce), this was sheer delight after a day for travel.
Cons: Brunch is not served all day

Must-Try Nachos - Edit
I went here for brunch with one of my close friends and we split the vegan nachos. The combination of the vegan cashew queso, seitan chorizo, guacamole, pico de gallo, and black beans was simply amazing. Imagine sporting event nachos elevated several levels higher. It’s one of those foods you’ll think about long after you’ve finished eating it. For my main dish, I ordered the biscuits and gravy which was good, but fell flat against the delicious nachos. The biscuit was served inside the gravy instead of on the side, so it got soggy pretty quickly. The gravy had seitan sausage crumbles in it, but they were very small. This left me wanting a seitan sausage patty instead which would have been more substantial. No matter, the nachos made the meal for me and left me very happy

Great food - Edit
The buffalo chicken wrap here is very good. Most items on the menu can be made vegan, everything is clearly labeled. If you go for breakfast you have to try the fried portobello, I have no idea why this is a breakfast item but its my favorite. They also have a full bar with a different mixed drink special each month. They have a huge outdoor patio which is about the size of the restaurant.

Cool restaurant - Edit
This restaurant has a really cool vibe and had a few vegan options. I️t was a long wait to get in though depending on what time of day you go. The french toast was really good when I️ went the first time. The second time I️ went I️ ordered a vegan omelet and I️t wasn’t the best. I think it’s safe to say it’[censored] or miss depending on what you order from here!

Visiting from PHX and stopped by this joint. Even non-vegans in the group loved their entrees. Delicious and affordable. Street parking only so that can be a beast...but worth it.

nice food! super cool place! - Edit
had a nice late breakfast here: scrambled tofu with potatoes and sourdough toast. the toast was insanely good! the tofu, unfortunately, was neither scrambled (i ate similar dishes at other places where the tofu was pressed with a fork and therefore reminded more of scrambled eggs), which isn't too bad, but also not seasoned. it was plain tofu and lacked a lot of taste :( the veggies that came along were ok, again, not a lot of flavour.
Read moresomething that totally irritated me: i got a piece of butter (real butter!) even though the dish was listed as vegan. especially for those starting a vegan diet, this is very misleading.
that and the tofu is why i'm taking a star off.
the place itself is great!! come here on a sunny day and sit on the patio! the service was excellent, very attentive!
Pros: service , atmosphere , options
Cons: lack of taste, serving butter with vegan food :/

A lot of tasty vegan options - Edit
This place has a lot of great vegan options, but I tend to always get the same thing here: The buffalo chikin wrap. The best damn wrap in the city. I cannot go to Handlbar without ordering it. They have a great brunch, with a very tasty biscuits and gravy. Fried pickles are a must. The also have fried mini pies and cake slices from Pie Pie My Darling. They do have fish on the menu. If you are looking for a place to accommodate a mixed group, this is a good option.

It's Portland in Chicago! - Edit
This place totally reminds me of Portland, and in a good way: hipsters everywhere, crowded, loud, and tons of awesome vegan food!
Read moreI had the french toast and biscuits and gravy (both veganizable) - totally badass. Other stuff there looked super good too but I could only eat so much. Their Metropolis coffee was outstanding, too. Staff was friendly (hipster surprise!) and we had a nice seat at the bar even while the place was packed. It's often busy so be aware of that. Killer menu with tons of vegan options (not sure why they insist on serving fish...) and near some other cool stuff in Wicker Park too. Handlebar could be the new Pick Me up... (!)
