Loved it!

It's expensive, but I loved the service and the delicious food! And as a vegan person, there were sooo many choices.

Delicious but too expensive

The food was great. It has authentically German foods without the meat - a rarity for German cuisine. My only complaint was that it was the most expensive meal I had during my Swiss vacation. I had meals at other places in Switzerland that were as good for less cost. On the other hand, it was the best menu I found in Switzerland.

Pros: Amazing menu

Cons: Expensive

Paradise

Just for this cool fact of history of the vegetarian movement it’s already worth checking out. But the food is what makes it incredible! So much choice it’s actually impossible to try everything. They have a self-service and a served section. The served one is slightly more expensive but worth it in my opinion because you weigh the food yourself and get a bill, so it is easy to get multiple portions (and go back for dessert!)
I agree that it is quite expensive, but if you want to treat yourself this is amazing.

Not exactly what I was hoping for…

Probably my own fault for not doing enough research but I didn’t realize you had to weigh your plate each time. Wow very expensive. My husband and I went, I got an alcoholic drink, he got a water, we each got one plate and spent 80.00 and were still a bit hungry… good food (there were two really great things), very Indian heavy especially for vegan items. It was very nice everything was labeled clearly. I know Zürich/Switzerland is pricey but I wanted a bit more out of this experience. Also- we noticed that ALOT of dishes were getting cleaned out by staff and not replaced well before closing time so if you want the most variety a really early dinner or late lunch is probably best. We went around 8pm and found about 1/3 or more were taken away.

Pros: Clearly labeled vegan items

Cons: Expensive

Riesige vegane Auswahl

Pros: Auswahl, Traditionelle Gerichte veganisiert, Super freundliches Personal

Cons: Klassische Zürcher Preise, Keine Tellerwaage am Buffet, erst an der Kasse

A veg(etari)an Institution

Buffet for outdoor seating

If you want to sit outside then you have to use the self service buffet. If you sit inside there is a set menu to order from.
I chose to try the buffet and sit outside. The host told me I could take a plate, weigh it, pay for it, and then outside was free seating.
I went in and got a plate. There are fried foods, cold foods, and hot foods available as well as dessert, fruits, and bread.
They all have labels and they had an easy to find vegan symbol. The ingredients are also listed in English so it was really easy to find the vegan things.
I wanted a bit of everything that was vegan so I took small scoops of everything from salad to spring rolls to ratatouille. It was expensive, but that is on par for Zurich. For me to fill my plate and have a drink was €43.
Once you weigh your food and pay they give you a fork, knife and napkin and then you can head outside to sit down.
The food was delicious and I was glad I got a little of everything because there were so many different flavors of things to try. I had a good mix and I enjoyed it all a lot.
I would recommend this restaurant for vegans. They have several locations around Zurich and they are worth going to because each one is a little different.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Easily marked vegan items

Cons: Expensive

So many options!

Most of the options are vegan. I suggest walking around and looking at everything BEFORE you start loading your plate….. I didn’t realize how much food I was getting until it was too late and I ended up paying WAY too much. Don’t make the same mistake!! Food was good. Staff very friendly and were very happy that I was trying to speak German😄

Pros: Options!, Clearly labeled, Friendly staff

Delicious buffet, expensive but worth it!

You're not just eating great food, but also a slice of history. Oldest vegetarian restaurant! Vegan and gluten free items labeled. Spicy foods labeled.

EVERYTHING was extremely good. Try a tiny bit of each thing, there are a million dishes to taste. The red lentils and all the curries were exceptionally tasty.

Pros: MANY gluten-free & vegan foods, Variety - good for a group w/ vegans & vegetarians, Staff speak English & are very helpful

Cons: Not many gluten-free desserts

Good buffet, quite pricey and modern

Loved this buffet, wonderful plate of home cooked food. Priced by weight, and mine was 43 franc which is a lot. For the oldest veg restaurant it felt very very modern inside; perched bar stool style seating, a lot like a hotel lobby

Buen ambiente

Pros: Muchas opciones veganas , Buen sabor , Ambiente animado

Probably the largest variety of all branches

Loved the variety of dishes here. So many protein options with Plant.d chicken. Would love to see more interesting vegan desserts but the apple crumble and chocolate mousse were pretty nice. Food was so nice it was omnivore approved 😀

Pros: Large variety of dishes

The best!

I usually go to the buffet instead of ordering from the menu. They have a huge amount of fenomenal vegan options at the buffet, you'll love it! The "Hiltl Tatar" is for sure one of the best things I've ever eaten, you should try it. Even my dad who is very sceptical of the concept of veganism and in general doesn't like to eat most vegetables loves the food at Hiltl. 100% my favorite vegetarian restaurant.

Incredible

I loved this place so much! We sat upstairs and ordered a la carte although the buffet on the first floor looked amazing too. The majority of the menu is either vegan or can be made vegan with substitutions. It seemed like for some items, like the mille-feuille dessert, they made two versions and have vegetarian and vegan ones ready to go. We ordered one item of the special seasonal menu, the beetroot steak with nut crumble, which came with mashed potatoes and cabbage. Also tried the Züri Geschnetzeltes which was Swiss comfort food elevated into high vegan cuisine.

Big variety buffet

We were unsure whether to choose the buffet or à la carte. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the big variety of vegan options at the buffet, having expected more vegetarian dishes.

We appreciated the mix of cuisines, along with a quite nice selection of desserts (try the Plum Haselnut Crumble).

We paid for two main dishes ~65 CHF in total, and for the two desserts 25 CHF (5CHF/100g).

Pros: Many different cuisines , Laid back Ambiente , Fast and attentive staff

Cons: Not on the cheap end

Almost all vegan buffet 💚

The buffet has almost all vegan dishes. The variety is unbelievable, see here a picture of my plate with over 25 different dishes. The tastes are really good, balanced and no 2 dishes taste alike. The dessert buffet has also several vegan choices. I really liked the ambience, very city hip.

I did a grab-n-go, so the details escape me. Looking at the photo, I remember there was an amazing marinated artichoke heart, a Thai salad with heirloom tomatoes and marinated seitan, some sort of mixed grains salad, beautiful crunchy mixed greens, cucumber with dill. All super fresh and very tasty.

Mostly very high quality vegetarian fare as a buffet option

The buffet option was much appreciated, as we had little time to enjoy any atmosphere. The base meals we chose were quite good, and the plumb/bread pudding (Zwetchen crumble) was excellent, but the regular bread pudding was mediocre at best.

Pros: Lots of choices for a vegan buffet, Most of the choices were good to excellent, Good service at weigh-in counter

Cons: Expensive, A few options did not meet the standard of others, It was a little busy and noisy

Best-of worlds cuisines

Lots of choices of true dishes, not just raw vegetables, from cuisines of all over the world ( lebanon, greek, indian etc). Can be however crowdy, and quite expensive for ZH at midday

Pros: International cuisine

Cons: Expensive

All you can eat or buffet style

I would definitely recommend this place if visiting Zurich for the experience. Food was ok and many many many options and everything quite well labeled, there was way more vegan options than vegetarian, with exception for desserts, as most of the dishes were vegetarian. I went with their all you can eat for breakfast option and I was served a prosseco even! Options I got were not very breakers suited but that was my good choices 😂 it was more like a lunch for me. I see a few comments commenting on the price but tbh looking at Zurich prices I believe the price here is fair, it’s Switzerland after all!

Yummy but crazy expensive

I know it’s Zurich but gosh I paid about £80 for three plates that weren’t even that full! Went for my birthday last year and the food was good though

Awful customer service

I wanted to leave a one star but HC automatically add another for being veggie.
Ordered from Guy A, Guy A serves me my order but then while I pop my card in the machine he walks off and Guy B waits for the transaction to go through, which it did. The machine said, Transaction Approved, Remove Card. I removed my card and Guy B looked panicked and called over Guy A. Guy A says something went wrong, I said the transaction had gone through fine and went to walk away. Guy A says unless I fill in a form of personal info Guy B will have to pay for my order. It all sounded a bit like a scam to me. He said, you must have had this happen before. I said, no never. He kept insisting I complete the form otherwise Guy B will have to pay for my order. I wish I’d thought more quickly and asked why Guy B when it was Guy A who’d served me but I was hot and now very bothered. Guy A said he’d get Guy B to pay and so I just filled out his darn form. I felt very upset and angry with the blackmailing treatment of this person.

Cons: Poor customer service, Blackmailing tactics
