Simple food in the heart of the Old Quarter - Edit
This was one of the main places I went to if I was in Old Quarter, Hanoi. There is a very obvious green sign at the front that leads into a long alleyway that leads to Hem Vegan. The food here is simple and won't win any awards for presentation, but it was nice to have a place in Old Quarter where I could find vegan food. Be sure to have cash.

Amazing Hotpot - Edit
We only got to go there once and try the hotpot, though the menu had a lot to offer I would have liked to try as well. The Thai Hotpot for two had a broth which was delicious in itself - with a lot of lemongrass and ginger - , served with different kinds of mock meat, tofu, mushrooms, beans, corn and leafy greens as well as some noodles. I particularly liked the fried tofu "skin" which would become soft when boiled in the pot as well as thr tofu which was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. By the end we were stuffed and happy. Sometimes if you are lucky there is also a cat in the restaurant.

Loved the Thai spicy hotpot - Edit
Hem Vegan is a vegan restaurant located in the Old quarter district, quite close to Hoan Kiem lake.
Read moreIt's located in a small alley. Once you see the sign in front, keep walking straight until you find the restaurant.
The restaurant was busy and charging 1.5X prices on Lunar New Year eve, but food was good.
Delicious rice paper rolls. Yummy and spicy Thai hotpot, something I especially enjoyed on a chilly winter day.
Worth a visit.

Ok - Edit
When we visited most of the food wasn't available but there was an extra 30% charge because of the holidays which is fine but the food that we did get just wasn't filling and was quite bland.

We went back multiple times for their „sandwich“ to take it on trips with us because it even tastes delicious after a couple of hours.

It’s okay - Edit
When you enter it, it looks like you’re about to enter a trap 😆 you go through a very narrow, long, dark corredor before you enter the place itself. Once you’re there it’s quite nice.
Read moreMy husband’s food was good, but mine (miso soup) was very VERY bland (ironically I wonder if they forgot the miso). Also there’s one drink that is not vegan, but it clearly indicates it contains honey so it’s not hidden or trying to trick you.
It is quite cheap though, it just isn’t the restaurant you should bring your non-vegan friends 😅
Pros: Very affordable, Very friendly
Cons: My dish was very bland, One drink is not vegan

Good food, would like a few more options - Edit
I ate here and got the banh mi stew - this was delicious and I feel would be an incredible dish to have if your ill! It was comforting food.
Read moreThey serve Vietnamese local food here which is great! Unfortunately they have less than 10 options for food choices and I do think there should be around 10-20 overall. This would be my only request.
This place is priced great! As a vegan restaurant in the city they can up their prices higher than what you’d usually pay for the same meal in a meat restaurant so I really appreciate that this place didn’t do that! My meal was 70k overall including a bottle of water.
Also this place is down a long alley btw!
Pros: Banh mi stew, Comfort food
Cons: Amount of food and drink choices
