Pleasantly surprised by sandwich and baked good selection

We’re staying at The Gray Barn at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary and I saw that others had been to this co-op in the past, but mostly found bulk spices and one or two vegan prepared foods. We were surprised to find that there was a large vegan section for sandwiches and salads, as well as random vegan grab and go items like samosas, buffalo wings, and tubs of tofu egg salad. There were also substantial sections for vegan meats, cheeses, and ice creams, considering that the market is small. Found fun stuff like a vegan yogurt starter and cool chocolates to try. There is also a lot of fresh produce, including a selection of mushrooms like lions mane. We got vegan chicken wraps and a tofu apple knish, along with some fruit. I’m glad there was somewhere close to The Gray Barn that we could grab food for dinner!

Pros: Selection , Atmosphere , Fresh and local

Great spot for bulk spices!

I generally just fill up my bulk spices / dry goods here. In general it's friendly but they don't have a great selection of VGF products to do my full weeks shopping.

I go to fill bulk and then maybe grab a few items.

Cool little store

Stopped here to pick something up for our ride home. They only had one vegan sandwich available. Some sandwiches had veganaise or Daiya but had meat slices. If I lived closer I’d probably shop here but It’s not great for a quick grab and go lunch.

Great small natural foods store and co-op

I find they have a good vegetable and fruit section and like their efforts to stock local produce, labeling things in their displays. Most of the produce items look wonderful. They have had items I could not find anywhere else, including non-alkalized baking cocoa powder. This product is great for its micronutrients and has no sugar. They also have a big fair-trade brand that is alkalized. The store does have somewhat narrow aisles. Along with a small produce section, the store has a lot of bulk bins; great coffee; some prepared, packaged items, including soups and salads; bulk household soaps, etc.; personal care and hygiene items, etc..; and some nutritional supplements. They do carry some meat and dairy products. As a co-op, they tend to be at least somewhat consumer oriented. Conflict of interest notice: I have to mention I am a member myself. Active members get a 10-percent discount, and if you worked 3 hours last month you are considered "active." If you miss a month's work hours, you get a smaller discount the following month. If you live elsewhere, this store is worth a fairly long drive, especially if you are interested in a visit to the nearby Woodstock Farm Sanctuary.

Pros: great products in an attractive, organized store, chance to be a co-op member and get a discount

Cons: a bit cramped with its narrow aisles, small size limits selection

Good Selection

Great little local store to get staples with a huge selection of bulk herbs, spice, teas and staples. Prices are a bit high, but I imagine not buying in large quantities and offering a discount to co-op volunteers drive that.

Pros: Great selection

Cons: Prices are high

Basic Health Foods

Smaller, local market has most basic foods covered: breads, produce, bulk items (nuts, legumes, seeds, candy, herbs and spices), frozen, dairy, canned, vitamins and cosmetics, even some meat. Just a more limited selection, narrower aisles, poorer lighting than stores in Kingston, Woodstock or Rhinebeck. The staff is pleasant and friendly, but inefficient and disorganized--stocking fresh lunch items in the mid afternoon. If you live nearby, can be good for grabbing a needed recipe item, but not for a major shopping because of fewer options. Still, it's nice to have them there if you live close to Rt. 209 or are driving by Rosendale, Stone Ridge, High Falls.

Pros: Can be convenient, Basic health foods, Nice people

Cons: Small, cramped, Limited selection
