An absolute delight

Here visiting family and was ecstatic to find a place to get snacks & food catered to our needs. A great amount of options in snacks, premade foods & option to make build your own sandwich/burger. Found a plant based creamer & my favorite kombucha as well. I feel like the pricing was around the same price back home in California. Which truly surprised us! The vegan chocolate chip cookies were so DELICIOUS. Had to get two!

Pros: LOTS OF VEGAN OPTIONS , Snacks, sweets, juices & more , Amazing vibrant energy

I kinda hate this place because of their prices

Limited vegan options and plenty of meat. Unpleasant staff. I have no idea what people like about this place, except that its the only natural food store in Pahoa.

Pros: vegan chocolate cake

Cons: pricy, unpleasant staff

Pricey even for Hawaii, not super vegan

Like other reviewers I find they don't have as many great vegan options as most natural food stores do. Compared to other places like Mana Foods on Maui, the selection is far less and prices seem to be at least 50% more and Mana isn't cheap.

Island Naturals used to carry vegan candy bars from Go Max Go but I haven't seen them for a year. Things I like tend to disappear eventually.

They do have a good selection of local produce, especially some exotic fruits you won't find elsewhere. They also have more types of bananas than I've seen at any store in Hawaii.

Years ago they used to have wonderful vegan carrot and lemon poppyseed cakes. When they stopped having that I found few reasons to go there. Some of their baked goods are still good, and the vegan focaccia bread when it's fresh is amazing.

Nowadays vegan staples like Daiya and Earth Balance can be found at places like Safeway for far less.

Pros: Local produce, Interesting exotic fruit, Some vegan things like cheeses and bakes goods

Cons: Too few vegan selections, Ridiculously expensive

Great for vegan products and foods

Well stocked with Vegan products and foods: Tofurky deli slices, Miyoko's cheeses, plant based milks and yogurts, breads (that don't have 50 ingredients as other brands you can find on the island), chocolates and sweets, frozen goods, personal care items and detergents - everything you would expect to find at a well stocked health food store.
They also sell fresh fruits and veggies, but had a quite poor selection.
Has a sandwich and smoothie bar that also serves hot coffee, a prepackaged foods fridge with few vegan options and a hot bar with no vegan option.
Some items are very expensive, others are at a fair price.

Pros: lots of vegan products, big parking lot

Cons: not many options for ready to eat vegan foods

great store for a smaller town

We went to Island Markets in Pahoa, Kona and Hilo while travelling. While Pahoa is small it still has a decent selection. We had great grab and go vegan burgers from the cooler (we heated them up on our BBQ). The small hit deli items has several vegan options; the sweet chilli tofu was great. There are tables outside to eat at. Good selection of faux meats, vegan cheese, and plant based milks. The bread was good as well. We were able to find all staples we needed (hilo does have more selection of vegan candy and snacks). The store also stocks vegan personal care items and cleaning products.

Small but good

We stopped at every Island Naturals on the Big Island. The staff in Pahoa were incredibly great in helping with choices, and taking time to recommend area highlights. The hot- and salad bar was very small but very good compared to a bigger location store. We took the vegan German chocolate cake from the takeout cooler, it was decadent, what a treat.

Pros: Impressive vegan selection for small store

Okay.

This is just an okay grocer, but in the outback, beggars can't be choosers. Glad it is here. Can't only live on coco's! Got a quick bite after a visit to the local thermal springs. Who's complaining!

Mixed feelings

I had previously been in the Kona and Hilo stores and thought they were brilliant. I was very disappointed to see that there were so many meat options here and there was very little vegan options. I found some items in the fridge that appeared vegan, they were marked as vegetarian... I read the ingredients and thought it was safe but now reading the previous posts I'm not so sure. I had very little choice and ended up eating mostly rice. It was better than nothing but this store isn't a patch on the other stores in Hilo and Kona.

This store is awesome!

We stayed at Kalani Honua Ocean retreat in a recent visit to Puna district, Hawaii and were not satisfied with what they provide for vegans and vegetarians. This store in Pahoa which is now named Island Natural Foods, a market and deli, saved us a lot of trouble for finding out delicious vegan meals. We found it by accident, actually. We just roamed around and decided to come in. During our visit to this area (Hilo and Puna district), I think, we went in this store for about 5 times to get vegan ready-made. Every time we shop from their del/hot and cold bars we got DELICIOUS stuff. They open at 7 am and at the hot bar, they provide warm baked vegan stuff such as vegan scones (pineapple vegan scone, lilikoi (passion fruit) vegan scone, almond, scone, etc.) that are so yummy. They have warm vegan blueberry muffins that are sooo goood. They have vegan breakfast burrito with potatoes and black beans. Their organic coffee is so delish. Come early or you'll not find any. For lunch they have vegan wrapped sandwiches and desserts that you can bring to a picnic on the beach or volcano national park. They also have hot deli for dinner (the deli is closed at 5 pm) such as chana masala, brown rice, quinoa, couscous, tofu curry, thai tofu, etc. that are all vegan and so yummy. We bought tofu teriyaki sushi rolls for trip back home (for in the plane). I love their pad thai with tofu that is even great at room temperature. They also have tasty vegan desserts (haupia with lilikoi), vegan choc chip cookies, vegan carrot cakes, etc. Amazing! We quit eating at Kalani and spend less bucks in this store and were very satisfied. The staff is friendly and helpful also. To us, this is a gem for travelers to find. We also visited their store in Hilo (located at the shopping center where Wal-mart is). If you are traveling in Hawaii, I really recommend that you stop by this market and deli and get a cooler to bring to the beaches.

Pros: Vegan bakery items, Vegan deli made to order items, Vegan grab n go items

Cons: No website, No advertisement

Great place for a vegetarian in Hawaii

This is now Island Market & Deli, sister store to the one in Hilo. seems to be a newer building, large gorcery selection, fantastic hot food bar and grab-n-go deli case. We went every morning for coffee and got many food items there. Interesting and unique little town, but we felt at home in this Market

Pros: Large selection, GREAT hot bar & deli item, good parking
