Incredible Karaage

This place was the perfect little stop at the end of our day. Very casual and amazing food. I'm so happy that I could have karaage as a vegan, and it was so so so yummy! The fried maitake mushrooms were also amazing! Conveniently located on the basement level of Shibuya Parco.

Pros: Casual setting, Convenient location, Incredble food

masaka is EVERYTHING

my favorite place in japan!!!! finally vegans can enjoy the izakaya experience.

I highly highly recommend masaka to vegans and non-vegans alike. the menu is fantastic, the karaage is to die for, and the portions are great.

My order: ☆sichuan style hot sauce karaage☆, deep fried broccoli, cucumber with ginger and onion sauce

English: order on a QR so no stress, there are usually other foreigners in there

Payment: cash or cashless

Pros: Soooooo good, Fantastic variety, Kind staff

Cons: Small, tight seating, Can get busy and have a wait, Bill adds up fast if you want to eat a lot

Still excellent!

This is the second time I’ve been here, last time was 2023 and it’s still just as great. Definitely worth the wait if crowded! Take a break from the Nintendo or Pokémon store and have some fried goodness and beers, you won’t regret it.

Very good

I had a highball, karaage, gyoza and salad. I liked everything, especially the karaage. The service was quick, too

Cons: Loud music from the hallway (not masaka's fault)

Izakaya with a vegan twist

Classic japanese izakaya with a vegan twist. Be prepared for waiting in line to enter, as the tables are always full.

We’ve ordered gyoza and chilli NOT shrimps for appetizers and two different karaage meals as our main dishes. The food was exceptionally good, juicy, fresh and served still hot. Service was also great and the staff will tend to you quickly.

Pros: Great food, Relatively cheap, Quickr service

Cons: Small menu

Vegans, have no fear

You don’t have to miss out on the fun if you’re a vegan in Tokyo. Had the karaage and shiitake mushrooms, both were delicious. The lemon sour was tasty too. Fantastic after a night out drinking

Great vibe

The small restaurant is located in a food stall complex in the underground area of a shopping mall right outside the main area of Shibuya. It was so great to find an entirely vegan Izakaya as most of them serve mostly meat without any vegan options being available. We loved their food options as you can just order a bunch of small plates and be able to try a lot of different things. It gets really busy here at night, so be sure to arrive early or reserve a spot beforehand.

Pros: Completely vegan, Great food options , Cool location

Good place

The tempura beans were a little bit tastless, but the rest was great. I recommend the Karaage.
The Feeling is nice there, no fancy chain.

Sympa

Izakaya pour tester de la nourriture japonaise en version vegan. En revanche lieu fréquenté à quasi 100% par des touristes. J'ai trouvé ça sympa mais sans plus.

Pros: Variété de choix

Simple but good Japanese food

I found Izakaya Masaka when I was searching for a place to try traditional Japanese dishes. The place is difficult to find and small, but I really enjoyed the food! I got a lunch set which came with karaage, gyoza, rice and miso soup. It was delicious and the staff was very polite, serving the food with a big smile!

Pros: Good Japanese izakaya style food, Polite service

Cons: Small place, Not a huge choice

Truly tasty food!

The food here was very delicious. The karaage was so crispy and the sauce options were very nice as well. Definitely get the chilli “shrimp” as this was a highlight! It is a tiny shop and you will likely queue, but the wait will be worth it.

Pros: Delicious food, Reasonably priced, Quick service

Cons: Queue/wait for a table

Great vegan Izakaya style food

Was swayed by the many reviews here to try this place. I will also recommend the Karaage as many other reviewers do. It was the best one during my visit. Very juicy and meaty. But do not worry the other food was very delicious as well. Prices are also very fair.

Pros: Karaage, Simple food ordering via smartphone, Karaage (Yes it was this good to mention it twice)

Cons: Very simple furniture

Delicious

I was recommended this place so decided to come as it was close. I ordered Chinese style tofu, rice balls, and karaage. I enjoyed everything. The Chinese tofu was good and I enjoyed the sauce with it. The karaage and rice balls were great as well.

Great Find!

So happy to have found this place. We got there just before the lunch rush, so we definitely lucked out with not having to wait. The food we ordered was absolutely tasty - gyoza, mapo tofu & rice, and karaage with yuzu mayo & green onions. Would definitely go back again if given the chance!!

Pros: Tasty vegan izakaya

Great 100% vegan japanese experience 🌱

The star of the menu is the fried soya meat, which comes in different sauces, all of them really tasty. The gyozas were also very good.
The place is tiny, you might need to wait a bit during busy days.
The staff is very nice. There is a QR code on each table to place the order.
Water free of charge
A vegan oasis in the middle of a market.
Loved it and would totally recommend iy.
To complete the japanese experience there is a sake place nearby (Mirai Sake/Kubota Sake Bar), you can do a tasting of 2-3 sake which they select according to your taste preferences (dry, sweet, fruity, bubbly...).

Delizioso

Fools very good the mock meat is on point . If it wasn’t a vegan restaurant I would have questioned it . I got mapo tofu and karaage yuzu pepper mayo

Dishes brought at different times

Small restaurant. When we arrived, we were the only customers, but the place filled up quickly. The food consisted of several tapas-style dishes, though it wasn’t clear how much is enough to order. The dishes were brought out at wildly different times, so our rice arrived much later than our side dishes, which was confusing. While the food was tasty, we were surprised that, despite the restaurant being empty at first, they couldn’t manage to serve the dishes more or less at the same time.

The first izakaya that I’ve try

It’s true that find a vegan/vegetarian option in an izakaya is almost impossible. This izakaya is 100% vegan so I enjoyed a lot trying different kind of dishes which was . Maybe the price is a bit high bit it was delicious, I really recommend it.

Pros: Variety of dishes, Delicious food

Cons: The price

Fully vegan japanese experience

As the title says, you can get a fully vegan japanese experience here with super delicious food, like vegan kaarage, vegetable tempura, the classical rice bowl etc.

Pros: Vegan kaarage

Yum

So much variety in choice I will need to go back. Little bit on the pricier side but worth it. Don’t love that it’s in a food court but still yummy and authentic. Got the gyoza, cucumber and karaage. Karaage texture was slight off (a bit too soft) but flavours all good. Will likely return again.

Okay food

I used to come here a lot before, now is always packed, and when I finally made it inside, the “fried soy meat” was not that good. The salad was great and the sauce from the “karaage” was good too, but not the fried soy meat, it used to be way better.
