Yummy!

We had low expectations given some reviews but we're pleasantly surprised. Seems like you just have to order the right things and the appies are really where either at. Chili wontons, char Sui, Shumai were all fab ! Appricate the mocktail options not being just juice.

Excellent

- bean curd skin dumplings, 9/10 great.
- turnip cakes, 9.5/10 excellent.
- lo mai gai, 9.5/10 excellent, just needed some soy sauce to get it to a 10.
- jade Rabbit dumplings, 10/10
- congee, 9/10 great, just needed soy sauce to get it to a 10

Would definitely come back to try everything else. Fully vegan place! So hard to find vegan dim sum

Bunny Bao & Rose Ice Cubes

The Jade Rabbit offers a delightful vegan dim sum experience that I've been longing for. As someone who hasn't been able to enjoy dim sum in years due to dietary restrictions, finding this gem was a dream come true. The menu clearly labels gluten-free options, making it easy to navigate and choose dishes confidently.

The food was absolutely delicious. While it may not be exactly like the traditional dim sum I remember, it was still incredibly tasty. One highlight was the Bunny Bao – not only was it adorably cute, but it was also packed a nice garlicky punch. The daikon cakes were another standout, offering an authentic taste without the Chinese sausage (that I never liked anyway).

I don’t usually take photos of drinks, but the pink and white rose ice cube in my matcha coconut milk was too beautiful to resist. It was a refreshing and visually stunning addition to the meal. We finished the whole thing off with a warm fudge mochi cake, which we probably didn't need, since we had so many leftovers.

Overall, The Jade Rabbit provides a nostalgic yet unique dim sum experience for those of us on a vegan and gluten-free diet. It's a must-visit for anyone craving a plant-based twist on this classic cuisine.

Manage your expectations

Growing up eating dim sum I was so excited to check out a vegan dim sum restaurant however their dishes fell short of what I was hoping for. The siu mai was great but everything else was meh. There is an ube brownie that we really liked but its texture is more so a mochi type rather than that of a brownie. Everything is very expensive for what it is.

Expectations too high

I'll admit I had sky-high expectations coming in and unfortunately our meal fell flat for the most part. We ordered quite a bit. The tastiest dish for the evening was ironically none of the dim sum items, but the adobo. The other okay ones were the lo mai gai, the char siu bao, and the wood ear mushrooms. Even then the flavor wasn't quite there for me. Now the not so good—The beancurd skin dumplings were tough and bland. They aren't supposed to be like this! The turnip cakes were, again, very bland, which was really disappointing because I love turnip cakes. The siu mai was meh, didn't taste like much other than the fake meat. The gai lan was simply steamed greens drizzled with vegan oyster sauce and definitely not worth the $12 price tag. Portions were overall generous so that's that.

Our bill came to $120 with tips sans drinks, which I thought was overpriced for the mediocre food. Also I don't really understand why they need people to order all their food at once. That said, I do find their effort to serve veganized dim sum commendable. This is a 2.5 rounded up to a 3 for me.

Pros: good portions

Cons: lacked flavor, expensive

Decent food, overpriced

Nice casual setting and friendly staff. Might need a reservation on busier nights. Unlike traditional dim sum , all food must be ordered all at once (no second orders). Vegetables are scant on menu. Seemed really overpriced.

Pros: All vegan, Friendly staff

Cons: Too greasy , Price

Mostly overhyped, some great items

The spicy noodle bowl is the sole reason for the “high” rating. Other items have been painfully mid for the price point, but cool trendy presentation and if you’ve got more money than what you know what to do with, by all means buy the rabbit shaped food.

Best meal

They were doing a special Filipino menu when I went. Everything was delicious! Update: went back after it changed to Jade Rabbit and had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Wish I could give it more than five stars

Bao bunnies!

What a lovely place! A distillery turned restaurant that sits over two levels. We arrived without a reservation (should have known better!) but the kind server shuffled things around to fit us. We tried an incredible local sake that was cloudy with notes of coconut cream. The Gai lan was almost charred which made for an incredible taste and texture. The wontons were delightful and the chilli oil packed a punch when we piled it on. The radish cakes were a much better texture than I expected and the sauce pairing was sweet and salty. The bunny baos were so cute that I didn’t want to eat them! They had a great ratio of filling and paired well with my leftover chilli oil. Highly recommend but make a booking!

Pros: Car park , Delicious food , Nice list of sakes

Cons: $$$

Amazing.

We have had 3 meals in Portland during our visit. This was by far the best. Creative, cool, warm vibe, food like you have not tasted before. Fabulous experience. We ate way too much, but it was worth it.

Pros: Flavor combinations and textures., Service. Warm but not fake., Cool vibe.

First time visiting

I've never had dim sum because I'm from the mid west and 1)we don't have it 2) specially not vegan/vegitarian!! Staff was great, food was amazing! Wish I could try more on the menu!

Fun Restaurant

Jade Rabbit is located in a well designed space and offers a well thought out menu. The staff recommend 2 small plates per person or 1 bowl.

My favorites were the wontons and the dumplings. The ube crème brûlée is nice as well.

I would recommend checking this restaurant out. Note that reservations may be required.

Costumer services needs improvement

The food is very good, I booked there for my birthday, which was special day to me and my first time at the restaurant. Unfortunately, the experience was not fortunate. The waitress attending us did not seem wanting to be there. And , the way we are treated in a place, usually it is the perception we've got of a place.
We received our first order, within a few minutes. It was very good, and then, we ordered desert. After over 20 minutes of waiting, we were alreayd late for an appointment. It never crossed my mind that a desert would take so long.
We asked the waitress, she was rude and justified that they didn't have enought staff in the kitchen. We were not willing to wait even longer and canceled the order. It was not a good experience to have on my birthday.
I would like to come back, but i would definitely not like to have that lady as waitress and i would also recommend people to go with plenty of time. I thought that 1h30m would be enough to have dinner, but you need much more time there.

My current fave

This place is so cute and the food was wonderful. I only had dim sum because it is so rare to fine vegan dim sum. The two of use split 4 different ones and the ube cream brûlée — OMG — it was so good— don’t split it — you will want your own😉

Pros: Takes reservations — recommended , Nice vibe

interesting dining experience

the siu mai dumplings and the dipping sauce they came with were delicious! the jade rabbit dumplings were cute but a little deformed/gummy and the fiery wind noodle soup tasted like pure chili oil. the siu mai dumplings were amazing enough to make up for it but overall it was pretty expensive for what we got

A Portland Fave

I love the atmosphere and the design of this place. It is like they have thought everything. So much effort even down to the perfect bunny shaped bao and dumplings which were almost too adorable to eat, but they were SO delicious. Will definitely return on my next trip.

Must go!

We ended up stopping by twice during our trip because it was just that good - and we would’ve made it 3 if we had the time! Amazing food, cocktails and service. Some of our favorites were the siu mai, chili oil wontons and ube crème brûlée. While their bunny shaped dumplings/baos are iconic, I think they have better tasting food on the menu.

10 stars if I could! Best ramen I’ve ever had

Going here was such an experience.

I don’t know if reservations are always required but when we walked up they had a small sign that said “Reservations Required” over the door. We stood outside looking confused and sad for a few minutes and the hostess waved us inside because they had a cancellation. Make sure you check if you need a reservation ahead.

We got tea and they had a little tea ceremony which I’ve never experienced.
My partner ordered Milk Oolong and I ordered the Blue People. Both were out of this world!!

We ordered Fried Wontons(spicy), Puto Pao Bunny Bao, and Fiery Wind Noodle Soup(spicy). The noodle soup had “chicken” and it took us to another dimension. Definitely best ramen of my life (vegan and non-vegan ramen).

We got the Wild Banana Mochi for desert and it was incredible! Definitely go here!!
I don’t remember her name but our waitress was amazing and all of the staff were really friendly.
