Great

- mysore masala dosai - excellent
- #1 of the meals special - great
- tomato uppatham - excellent

Would be great to have had the menu labeled what items were vegan by default, but they were still very helpful

Always amazing!

We have been coming here for decades
It's always brilliant
It's currently $10-$12.50 for a rice set and its more than enough food
You can't share, so don't try
It's fabulous food!

Delicious Indian food

A point off because the menu didn’t say what was vegan and the service was rushed, with no chance for questions. I was able to get through that I wanted no yoghurt or dairy and my rice set meal did come dairy free. The food was really good - super hot and freshly cooked poori, chutney, curry, sambar etc. my partner had the masala dosa (asked for no ghee) and enjoyed that too. Portions are huge #Veganuary

Pros: Tasty food, Big portions , Cheap

Cons: Vegan options not labelled , Service rushed

Still great!

Once again, Komala Vilas didn't fail to impress. Food is delicious, authentic and very cheap. We had masala dosai and vegetable biriyani (pictured) and struggled to finish (though we certainly did). Topped off with mango lassi and lemon drink.

Will always make sure to visit whenever we're in Singapore.

Banging vegan Dosai

Amazing food, quick service, plenty vegan options - massive queue at lunch time to get in suggests that it is a very popular place with locals (wait wasn't too long as restaurant has seating in first floor as well)

Pros: Good filling tasty vegan food, Lots of different options, Quick and attentive service

Delicious!

Went to this restaurant with my family a few years ago. We loved this place. I honestly don’t remember how many times I’ve had my meals there.

Awesome portions and very affordable

One of the best and most popular South Indian restaurants in Little India, with lots of options and big portions. Mostly South Indian dishes, though also North Indian options.

Pros: Very cheap, nice portions, fast service.

Cons: Crowded, not vegan.

Best dosais and accompanying chutneys!

I ordered the dosai meal and my hubby ordered the rice meal (which, when looking around at the other tables in this busy restaurant, is what everyone else orders) and we were well impressed by the massive portions and the perfectly crispy, airy and fluffy texture that was the dosai. In my opinion, the best dosais I've tried in Singapore because they are super crispy yet fluffy in the centre (I had the paper dosai) and the five different chutneys were fantastic. Absolutely delicious! The only thing I wish is that I had space in my tummy to eat more!! We ordered a second plain dosai on its own so that my hubby could try it, but he was so full from his rice meal (and that's without any free top-ups) that I had to (happily) finish off the dosai for him. Hehehe so good!! Definitely will be back. Craving that crispiness already.

Pros: Can be made vegan easily, Best dosai, Lots of amazing chutneys

Cons: None at all!

Dosas are recommended!

It looks a bit messy inside the restaurant for Europeans, but the great and cheap food is totally worth it! I highly recommend the Dosa!

Iconic

This little venue has been open for over 70 years, and I can now understand why! You will find simple vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. But, the flavours are complex. The serving size is very generous, in my experience. There was a queue of locals that went out the door for breakfast! I enjoyed brunch and a fresh juice there this morning, when things had settled down. Excellent food!

Pros: Next level flavour! , Big servings , Close to MRT Station

my tummy is so happy

Got there on a Friday afternoon - pretty busy, but lots of seats available since there's a lot of table-sharing going on and the maître d' is quite efficient. She sends you upstairs if you're having a rice meal.

I got the Mysore Masala dosa; not sure if they tempered it for me, but it's definitely not the spiciest I've had, but still really good and was not lacking for me. The potato mash had bits of lentil, chickpea, and some other unidentifiable items - lots that go in there and not a simple mash. Sambar and chutney were standard; nothing terrible, nothing amazing.

They also have lots of snacks around, if you need to add more, lots of samosa and vadai around. Then next door, they have their sweets shop!!!!!!!!!!! If you're vegan, it might be a hassle to find something, but all the staff I encountered were fairly nice, polite and helpful.

I got some laddu + burfi, and didn't really take enough photos before I ate them...... then I wished I bought more for the coming days.......... xD

fast service, decent food

It feels like fast food, and like a fast food chain you can also eat with your hands. It's cheap, and you get a decent size meal with decent tastes. The little desert I got was a bit weird and not very tasty, but that did not spoil the fun at all.

Delicious Indian food

Yeah, the staff could definitely be more friendly but the food was very good. If you order the platter-style meal then you’ll have fun digging in with you hands. No worries, there’s a good wash station for before and after.

Pros: Lots of options, Delicious food, Reasonably priced

Cons: Not too friendly staff, Crowded

Gone to the dogs

The lady behind the counter ,was very rude and basically what ever we wanted to eat ,she said no can do,even though it was on the menu. This the first time we encountered such rudeness at this restuarant ,but was enough to put us off forever.

Pros: zero

Cons: Bad service , Bad Manners, Outright Rude.

Favourite South Indian restaurant

My favourite meals are rava onion masala dosa, sambar vada, idiyappam with sambar and their South Indian set meal. If vegan, please make sure to inform to not add raita, or any yogurt based items such as “avial”.

Awesome!

I had the masala dosai, served with two chutneys and sambhar, for 3.90$ (2.85 USD). It was sooo tasty and filling ! I felt bad paying so little ! It's so nice to eat among the locals, and the staff is very friendly. The waiter confirmed that the food is cooked in oil, and not ghee.

Pros: Cheap, Friendly staff

Brilliant Indian Experience

I love this place, a classic indian restaurant with all of my favourite dishes (masala dosas, brilliant samosas, banana leaf thalis, indian sweets and masala chai). The choice is great and the food consistently good. Also I love the feel, its always busy and full of Indians and very much reminds me of India. Highly reccomended. There are alot of other veg indian restaurants around but we always went back here. If you are new to Indian sweets order the gulab jamon. Thali dishes are approx $5-6 and everything else is cheaper. so great value

Pros: good price, great atmosphere, great food

Friendly staff and good, affordable food

Everything on the menu was new to me, so I asked for a recommendation. It was great. 1st tasty vegetarian meal I've had since I got here. Waitress also recommended a snack. It didn't have a name on the bag, but I wish it did because it was great! The whole meal didn't look very big, but it was very fullfilling. I had enough left overs to take with me for a snack later. Good deal. And very convenient location (right next to MRT).

Good fun

Agree with most of the comments already made. This is a cheap, basic restaurant but don't let that put you off.

The staff are friendly, like one of the other reviewers I've been in with a pram and it was no problem. I'm western, and everybody was happy to help offering advice etc.

It is the usual form here to eat with your (right) hand, but implements are available. Overall, I'd say give it a go!

Pros: Food, Price, Experience
