A very good bakery but…

With the menus bare of options in most non-counter categories, the draw is limited. Avocado toast was out at 12:30, and that’s it for vegan menu options.

Their vegan pastries are good but also widely available at other cafes and they nevvvvvver change. Why change to please a captive market? The bread has been great for years, of course.

Limited vegan option

Pleasant enough location but very limited vegan options. Only an overly sweet chocolate chocolate chip cookie was available. Outside seating available but be warned that, at least on the day we were there, you are under a landing approach for SeaTac airport.

Pros: Nice neighborhood, Close to Volunteer Park, Friendly staff

Amazing space and options

A slice of Paris in Seattle. Great coffee, clearly marked vegan pastries, and of the best mini baguettes I've ever had.

Pros: Freshly baked good, Well presented and clean spaces, Great coffee

Wonderful cafe and bakery to visit and for bread on the go

Macrina Bakery is a Seattle-based chain. This is the second location - in East Capitol Hill - we've visited thus far, and it was as excellent as the other Macrina location in Upper Queen Anne District. The staff were helpful, providing exhaustive information about the vegan versus non-vegan breads. There are a lot of vegan breads to choose from. As for desserts, in May 2021, there were only two vegan desserts. This time, we tried the double chocolate vegan cookie, and it was great: bitter chocolate, crisp, with chocolate chips. The vegan desserts have small signs that clearly indicate what is vegan.
Outdoor seating consisted of tables all around the perimeter of the parking lot and a nearby shop. There was also one table in front near the entrance.

Pros: Numerous vegan bread options, Helpful staff, Large, contemporary space

Cons: Very few vegan desserts
