Great Spot

Maranui has a range of vegan options for food, drink and cake. With the view out the window, decent coffee and good food, it's well worth a visit.

Delicious vegan salads

Creative ambience. Cafe on the waterfront of lyall bay with great views of the ocean. They have a couple of vegan vege options on their menu and awesome cabinet food. highly recommend the salads - nourishing, fun and full of flavor. Quick service, though on weekends or peak time there can be a bit of wait and it can get a bit loud. Great place for group dining and is kid friendly - some stairs to go up to reach the cafe. Same owners as diamond deli

Pros: Beautiful views, delicious salads

Cons: Expensive, can be a bit noisy

Wellington Restaurant with a Sea Lyall Bay View.

Was looking for a Cafe / Restaurant with a menu that used free range hen eggs as many in Kilbirnie do not in fact in the whole zip zone 6022. On the fore shore Beach Lyall Bay Parade not far from bus service facilities. In a building on the 1 st level with a steep set off stairs to climb. First impression was looks old, tired, & ragged, nearly gave it a miss. Decided to climb the uncovered wooded stairs inside with old Surf boat oars as hand rails. Different. Struggled with my walking stick and as I got near the entrance at the the top chattering voices hit the customer. Not just a few but dozens. Walked around to try & find a table but was quickly told by the young polite female matra "D" to join the que & she would in due course show me to a vacant table which there were not many. A choice of varing size tables, a couple of high bar ledges & out side balcony. As the chairs available where low chose the bar stool ledge that was empty with a wall to lean on as the stools did not have back support. The place was a buzz with all age groups plus children. Counted 40 there with 10 or more in the replacing que. People were arriving as fast as people leaving after eating. The staff observed were all experience as they handled the crowd, with politeness nothing seemed to bother them as they went about their tasks efficiently. Seating chairs were tired & old but that was quickly over looked by the surf lifesaving memorabilia on the walls, a preserved swordfish head in one corner & the light ceiling fittings shades made from rowing skiffs seats with holes in to allow the allumination through with plenty off other interesting used surf equipment, past boxing legends posters to make a interesting decore without it being cluttered or over done. Menu, with plenty of vegietairian choices, different from the norm bacon and egg, omelette style menus which their menu Caters for most people's tastes with plenty off side dishes at very reasonable prices to add to any of the menu listings or order on there own. Build your own dish as big as you like. I had the scrambled eggs without the dough toast which was when I came to pay was treated as a side order of 2 eggs scrambled at $2.50 a egg. Cooked to perfection & not over done with to much milk to make them pale & running to try and make the serving larger causing it to slide from your fork when trying to lift to eat. Non flopping non milky & not a wobbly mess. Highly recommend this restaurant / Cafe. Sat & Sun arrive b4 10.am

Pros: Friendly and accommodating staff, Good ambience, Excellent service March 2020 Staff do change

Cons: Needs more egg dishes that use only one egg , Needs to offer / use more healthy herbs and spices, Add honey free of charge as coffee

Great view and food

Came here yesterday and had such a delicious meal. I was very happy with the great range of vegan options available. Also the lovely view was fantastic. Only let down was the want as it is clearly a very popular place, but we'll worth it.

Pros: lots of vegan options, great views and atmosphere

Cons: very busy

Great place for a family brunch

Good vegan options, lovely view, good place to take omnis, good for kids.

The salads are fabulous (and most are vegan) plus marked vegan (or veganisable veg items) on menu. Usually at least 1-2 vegan desserts/cakes. They do excellent coffee with soy or rice milk.

Make sure you arrive early, especially weekends for brunch or lunch as it can get very busy and you will have to queue!

Pros: Good choices, Nice view, Kid-friendly

Cons: Can be very busy, May need to queue for a table

Lovely veg-friendly location

Maranui is perfect for a lazy summer brunch, being right on the beach. The vegan options vary - there's always the seaside tofu scramble (satisfying) and I think you can alter a couple of other menu options. In terms of counter food, there are usually a couple of salads and vegan cupcakes - but it gets super busy, so those do run out.

Pros: Location, Tasty food

Cons: Often crowded, Food runs out
