Good Selection - Edit
We went to the rooftop where they had some vegetarian truffle flatbread. The cheese board was delicious. After we went downstairs for some dinner. The butternut squash gnocchi was so good. Dessert was a bananas foster. They make their own ice cream in house. My boyfriend got the brussel sprouts and I had never tried deep fried brussel sprouts and they were to die for.

Love Love Love - Edit
So while you would think of a place like this not having alot of vegan options. This menu has so many different things. I really wanted the mushroom pasta. They checked with the kitchen and one of the managers let me know they could make that for me. Worth it. The apple crumble was delicious!

Only French Option in Grand Rapids - Edit
Mertens Prime holds the distinction of being the French restaurant in Grand Rapids. Unfortunately, French cuisine is not usually plant-friendly. And Mertens does not do anything to dissuade that notion.
Read moreThere is the ratatouille dish which is vegan and has options between pasta or risotto. The pasta is house-made and springy. It was a tasty dish. Unfortunately, there are not any vegan starters or dessert options.
The drink selection, on the other hand, is varied. They specialize in French wine and have a wide swath to choose from.
But aside from the food, the real draw of the restaurant is the rustic interior. There is a beautiful mosaic tile floor that harkens back to its “prime” days as a hotel. There is also a rooftop bar that is first come-first serve; however, restaurant diners have priority. It is a great way to see the city after dinner.
Overall, Mertens Prime is not my top choice for high-end dinning in Grand Rapids. However, it is nice establishment to take a date, and it creates a romantic ambiance.
Pros: Some vegan options, Atmosphere , Rooftop bar
Cons: Not entirely vegan, Costly
