Great Tacos! - Edit
I went to Miguel’s tonight for dinner for the first time and had a great experience. They had a good amount of vegan options and dishes that could be made vegan. Our waiter was really knowledgeable and friendly. I tried the fried avocado tacos and they were superb. The texture was on point. It was an eggplant parm taco.

Vegetarian Fajitas - Edit
Our family stopped in for the 1st time yesterday, and I had the fajitas. My husband had the baked avacados. Both of these dishes were delicious! The fajitas were enough to make 2 meals for me.

More than Amazing! - Edit
My partner and her family and I have always loved this establishment back when I was still a vegetarian. I had been a little sad since I became a vegan almost 3 years ago because I figured I wouldn't be able to enjoy Miguel's again.
Read moreBut last night, after reading several reviews on Happy Cow (which O hadn't seen before as I have been away most of the past 3 years), I eagerly returned.
Taking a hint from several of the reviews, I went full on with the fajitas with all the vegan substitutions abd was blown away! I ate so much I joked with one of the servers that I shouldn't have to eat again for at least a week!
The flavors combined together to create something truly transcendent! I may be mistaken, but I think the tofu was smoked, or perhaps something else was. In any case I would definitely rate this meal as one of the best I've ever had, whether vegan or those prior to my conversion.
So I respectfully disagree with the reviewer who felt that Miguel's quality has experienced a decline. From what I experienced it has exceeded even its past glory!
Lastly, the servers were very cordial and the service quite prompt.
Pros: I can't compliment the food enough!!, Prompt. Ultra friendly, relaxed service, Wonderful decor, plenty of parking, as always
Cons: No cons!

Rare to find tofu options or vegetarian chorizo most places, but both are at Miguels. Watermelon jalapeno margarita was very good, too.

Great service and dinner - Edit
The service was excellent. She even asked if I wanted to sub vegan sour cream and cheese when I asked for the vegetarian fajitas w/o dairy. A for paying attention. I chose the vegan chorizo. The vegan cheese was meh, as is most, but the sour cream was on point. The portions would feed two adults.

Good food but inconsistent - Edit
We eat hair on a fairly regular basis. The food is decent, but extremely inconsistent. The food has taken a decline recently when their head chef changed. They took a few vegan options off the menu, and added spice to the options they kept. I love Mexican flavors, but I’m not a huge fan of spicy food. I will order something here one day, and it’s not spicy and I’ll come back and order the same thing a week later, and it will be WAY too spicy. In addition I used to really enjoy their corn and black bean salsa. We would order this because a family member has a tomato sensitivity. The last time I ordered it, they had changed the recipe and added tomatoes. When I sent it back I was informed by the manager that it’s ALWAYS had tomatoes. This was simply not true, and left me feeling some sort of way. I’m wish they would bring back their spinach and artichoke empanadas and their braised cabbage. Both were outstanding. Now I order their taco salad with veggies and no dairy. Sometimes it’s delicious, sometimes it’s too spicy to eat. If their food was consistent I would give them 4 stars.

Miguel’s was awesome. I had vegetarian fajitas with vegan chorizo and I just had to ask for no cheese. The waitress then informed me that they had a soy cheese substitute and everything was delicious!

I’d give you 5 Stars if I could! - Edit
I [censored] love Miguel’s! They go above and beyond to provide delicious options for everyone. I can’t even begin to list all the options of dishes you can order and create! My last visit there I had Miguel’s signature baked avocados and I was completely blown away impressed by how good the dish was. I got a side order of rice with it and it was perfect. They are known for their vegan spinach and artichoke empanadas too. Those things are awesome and I wish they would make an appetizer out of them so I could get extra. They have vegan chorizo, tofu and delicious fresh sautéed veggies. The seared garlic cabbage is so good you will crave it. They offer vegan Mayo, sour cream and have amazing fresh salsa and guacamole too. I could go on and on. I have been here 3 times and plan to keep going back many many more.

Great!! - Edit
Menu has a plethora of vegan options. The wait staff is educated on any dietary needs, and is very helpful. I myself am fully Vegan, I had the beer battered avacado tacos, my husband had the Paleo avacado halves. We had a side of chips, salsa, and guac. Everything was fresh, and had amazing flavor. Portion sizes were on point. We left with full bellies. I found the atmosphere very friendly, and observed the local cliental were regulars.

GREAT FLAVOR!!! - Edit
I’m usually hesitant about non vegan restaurants having vegan options because the chef might not know how to flavor plants very well, but I was very impressed when I got the vegan empanadas!!! Great texture and flavor. The dressing and sauce was great! And be sure to get the vegan sour cream!!!! My dad’s a non vegan and he got the mole enchiladas and said they were okay and “not Mexican”. But as a vegan I was VERY IMPRESSED

Great Variety and Service - Edit
Miguel’s is an excellent mexican retiring with dozens of vegan options! Make their salsas in house, and use some local brands for vegan proteins. Have vegan cheese and vegan sour cream and plenty of non vegan items if you are with some non-veg heads. Staff is knowledgeable about its menu and vegan options. Service is outstanding as well as their Tostones appetizer and homemade chips.

Yummy vegan options - Edit
My husband and I have been going to Miguel’s since it opened some years ago, and enjoyed the vegan fajitas and enchiladas but today we tried their vegetarian chimichanga vegan style (with vegan cheese and sour cream) and we were blown away by the flavors in the burrito that was fried to perfection and filled with black beans, seasoned potatoes, vegan cheese, topped with thinly sliced fried onions and a red enchilada sauce (the original sauce was not vegan but the substitution was very tasty), rice and black beans as well as vegan sour cream on the side. Delicious, very filling and savory. We also enjoyed the chips, spicy salsa and guacamole. We’ll be back soon!

great vegan substitutions - Edit
I was blown away by the ease of ordering vegan at Miguel's- the server knew recommendations, and offered vegan cheese and sour cream substitutes, as well as suggestions for vegan favorites. The fajita meal was huge and delicious- a special treat to have vegan cheese and sour cream at a Mexican restaurant. The guacamole and salsa were delicious. The ambiance was comfortable, and the margaritas were stellar. There are vegan empanadas on the menu that we did not try- we'll be back when passing through. The bill was not nearly as pricey as we would have imagined for all we ordered. There is also a Mexi-Paleo menu.

Cozy Vegetarian Comfort Food - Edit
Although from the strip mall location Miguel's seems to be a chain, it is not. In fact once I finally ate here I realized they were the good Mexican restaurant that used to be in Bar Harbor but have now moved to Bangor. They cook from scratch and source several ingredients locally. The complimentary salsa and chips were yummy and homemade and you can choose between, I believe, three different salsas with different levels of heat. They seem very accommodating of changes and substitutions and were happy to find out what exactly is in different dishes.
Read moreI had the Vegetarian Chimichanga but I asked mine not to be deep fried, so I guess it was essentially a burrito. It was the most cozy, yummy comfort food! Black beans, cheese, seasoned Maine potatoes and a Tequila mushroom cream sauce, topped with poblano cream sauce and crispy fried onions. Not something I would eat everyday but so delicious as a savory treat! My boyfriend had the Almond Cream Chili Rellenos, which we thought came covered in a sauce made of out of almonds. It was actually a cream sauce with slivered almonds in it which appealed to us less and it was a bit sweet for our taste. That's our preference, however. We'll both probably get the vegetarian chimi, fried or not, next time; so delicious!
Don't go to Chipotle!

Large Portions - Edit
This place has such a nice vibe. I went in on a Monday night and the place was busy and chatty. I got the vegan nachos to go and they were SO good! The "cheese" is daiya and I believe the sour cream is Tofutti? But I am not sure on that. The chips are really good and the salsa and guac are yummy too. Nachos are my favorite food and now that I live about a mile away from this place, I think I'll be going a lot! So delicious. I definitely recommend! Portions are large and parking is super easy here!

excellent - Edit
Went here last weekend. Great service, great diverse menu. They have Gimme Lean for ground beef substitute, tofu sour cream which I assume is tofutti, and Daiya for cheese sub. REALLY great food. I'm vegan, as is one other person I went with and another is vegetarian, and all of our meals were amazing. Price point seemed fairly moderate but you get a LOT of food and total bang for your buck. Try the fajitas.

Good variety, a little bland - Edit
The best thing about Miguel's is that they have a wide variety of options for vegetarians, and they will accommodate vegans. You can get soy sour cream and soy cheese as sides. As others have mentioned, they offer soy crumbles or seasoned tofu as fillings for many of their entrees. Their margarita's are good, and they have a full bar. Since they are so accommodating to vegetarians and vegans, I really, really want to love Miguel's. Unfortunately, as a native Floridian, I find their food a little on the bland side. It is extremely popular with many folks locally, though.

Great vegetarian Mexican food! - Edit
While the menu is mostly meat focused, many of their burritos and other items can have any filling substituted for the meat, and they clearly list their vegetarian-friendly fillings: veg black beans, seasoned tofu, and gimmie lean. They also had an almond-cheese filled chili relleno on the menu. The waitress was familiar with their vegetarian selections and kindly guided me through their options.
Read moreThe wet burrito ("burrito verde") with seasoned tofu and veg black beans I got was delicious and filling, though was typical of Bangor cuisine and not spicy at all (but they had hot sauce which nicely heated it up).

Pros: Many veg options
Cons: Menu focused on meat

Miguel's Restaurant is very accommodating! - Edit
My family and I frequent Miguel's Restaurant and they're always very accommodating to my vegan needs. They have many dishes with beans and vegetables including burritos and other dishes easy to make vegan. If you love spicy food, they don't have a huge variety of spicy sauces but the food in general is fresh and delicious. They have vegan cheese and fresh produce so I always feel comfortable eating their food. The restaurant can be a little cold sometimes, so bring a sweater when you eat there! Although I'm also sure the staff would be happy to adjust the temperature if you ask. Overall a delicious and clean restaurant with a fun environment and a great interior design!

great option in bangor - Edit
they focus on local, fresh produce in all their dishes and the fact that they offer vegan sour cream and cheese as well as tofu and gimme lean so this makes it a easy compromise resteraunt if you are eating out with ovo-lactos or meat eaters. you have to make sure the beans or other fillings are vegan. some staff are more knowledgable than others, but they are friendly.

Amazing Vegan Mexican Food! - Edit
Miguel's is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant (and this includes the ones I've been to in my hometown of Los Angeles). They are incredibly vegan friendly, totally accommodating to food allergies, and their wait staff are absolutely the best. You can get a choice of two different vegan fillings on almost any plate on the menu - gimme lean soy crumbles or seasoned tofu (I prefer the gimme lean by far). You can also order vegan cheese (Daiya) and vegan sour cream (Tofutti) in place of the dairy options. However, these choices are not indicated on the menu, but just ask the server for it and they'll be happy to do the substitution. There are a few plates that are a little expensive, but in my opinion totally worth it. My favorite plate is the vegetable fajitas. Soy grounds with peppers and onions, guacamole, vegan sour cream, vegan Daiya cheese, I always choose the vegan black beans in place of the vegan refried beans because I prefer them, lettuce, and warm tortillas. Absolutely DELICIOUS! They also have great deals on beer and a full bar. I've never left there feeling dissatisfied. I highly recommend any vegans that live in the Bangor area or any passing through to stop at Miguel's. You will not be disappointed!! I would give this place 5 cows if I could.
