Superb Experience - Edit
The owner was happy to accommodate us and our vegan lifestyle. He had an opening, and allowed us to pay for food only for a couple of days.
Read moreThis was such a lifesaver. We visited back in the fall of 2016.
We reached out to the owner via email and discussed (in English) purchasing vegan meals. He was very clear that he was not a restaurant, but rather offered accommodations to guests. We advised him we were going to be in the area and were seeking out vegan options. He graciously agreed to accommodate us for a couple of days when one of his guest houses was vacant, hence he would have an opening for us to eat in.
This was such a lifesaver as we had difficulty finding places online prior to our visit that would accommodate our vegan lifestyle. He was also helpful in suggesting other places to eat on the Island.
The food was really great. There were always several dishes with a good variety. I loved the miso soup, there were different vegetables every day.
There was a set time that we came for dinner each day. Everything was made fresh and served. There was only two other guests during our time there (father and son).
The environment was quite intimate and felt very personable and unique. We did walk out to the overlook and it was an amazing view of the ocean and rocky beach.
We drove here in a rental car. It was really easy to find as there were several markings and signs. The owner had us park to the right of the building.
If we were ever to return to Yakushima, we would stay here rather than the accommodations we chose previously.
Overall great experience, accommodating and delicious.
Pros: Delicious Vegan Food, Accommodating Owner, Intimate Atmosphere, Easy to Find, Great Views

thumbs up - Edit
not a vegetarian place but they're happy to meet special requests like vegan, no onion/garlic, etc
Read moretasty food, elegantly presented, good portion size (several courses per meal)
pretty location on cliff overlooking ocean
private cabins for rent with meals included; somewhat pricey compared to staying at average local guest houses; more frugal veg visitors to the island might want to rent a bed or a room at Chinryu An, Sen no Ie, or another place where they can cook their own meals. See http://chinryu.com/index2.html or http://www17.ocn.ne.jp/~sennoie/
narrow range of meal times may cramp your plans for daily activities on the island; must be home in time for dinner if you stay here
friendly service; some staff speak some English
semi-communal dining setting; you might or might not have a chance to make new friends at the dinner table
not the easiest place to find; on the main road around the island, look for a small sign with the restaurant's name that indicates the side road to turn off at
tall people, remember to duck when walking through doorways and hallways or receive a firm reminder on your head that you're in a country designed for shorter people
