Delicious and very well served ! A bit on the pricy side but well worth the money. Had the set menu and hoping I can go back to try another dish before leaving Kyoto! oh and they take cards ,rather unusual in this town!

Generous set meal lunch - Edit
Natural Food Village is easy to find across from the Kyoto University of the Arts and on the same side of the street as the Kyoto Design College. It’s on the second floor with a signboard on the sidewalk and also is a music venue. If you’re visiting temples and gardens in northern Higashiyama, this is in the area.
Read moreThere’s a basic English menu and several choices for lunch- curry, noodles and the daily special. The daily special included rice, soup, soy cutlets, veggie tempura, green salad and 3 or 4 marinated vegetable side dishes.
The atmosphere was casual and welcoming. The prices were reasonable.
Pros: Lunch special , Window seats, Friendly relaxed atmosphere

delicious slow food, cool artsy vibe - Edit
Be prepared to sit and relax as you await a delicious meal. The vibe makes it easy to chill…lots of interesting things to look at and cozy spots to sit. The food is really delicious. We tried the fried Thai noodles — simple and fresh, with nice spice to add to your taste. And the cutlet rice bowl, also really tasty and the cutlet had a really satisfying texture. Salad was really fresh too. There are a few odds and ends available for purchase but not a full shop by any means.

We went on a weekend around 1pm or so, easy to find a table, just waited a while for our meal to be ready as the tables ahead of us were served. No complaints though, it was worth the wait!
Pros: Delicious freshly prepared food, Cool atsy vibe
Cons: slow food (just be patient 🙏🏼)

Turned away hour before closing - Edit
I was really excited to eat here during my trip to Kyoto, but when we arrived we were told that they were sold out of food and could not serve us. I don’t think that the hours need to be updated necessarily because they were continuing to serve customers when we arrived. The food looks really delicious, but I would recommend arriving at the start of their open hours to ensure that you’re able to be served.

Amazing food - Edit
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Kyoto. The vegan lunch set is really delicious and costs ¥1,300 which is definitely reasonable for what you get.

Everything i ordered was to die for taste wise, well priced and super fresh. Cute cozy interior which is perfect i think for Aki/Autumn and winter seasons in japan! Great menu, a little slow with service but the kitchen did look super small.

Vegan Nigh Life! very chilllll - Edit
I can hear someone was singing outside the door. As soon as I walked in, there was a live band! Everyone took the drink and stood up and swayed with the melody, feeling very relaxed. I ordered spring rolls, curries, fried pasta, cakes, and smoothies. Every dish is quite amazing, the spring rolls are crispy but not greasy; the curry is not too spicy, it is suitable for people who are afraid of spice but want to eat spicy like me; fried pasta is my favorite, The noodles will not be too hard or too soft, with simple vegetables, it is so delicious; also the smoothies, especially recommended berry flavor!

Funky and delicious - Edit
I arrived at Natural Food Village a bit early for dinner and the place was empty, which meant I got the benefit of the full attention of the one friendly young man who was on duty.
Read moreI chose one of the dinner set menus and found all seven items to be quite tasty. The small vegan cake afterward was a little on the dry side, which made it well paired with the cacao shake.
The atmosphere is cozy and funky, a sort-of backpackers-who've-been-to-India vibe. Prices are lower than many other Kyoto veg places, and especially good in light of the quality. (Cash only.)
Recommended. Enjoy!

So cool! - Edit
This place is just so cool......it’s in the artists suburb so it figures. Went there last night (Thursday, not sure if it’s like this every night) and they had a DJ spinning some chilled reggae beats to warm up the crowd.....of about 9 of us and it was almost a packed venue LOL.....for a couple of different musical acts that were playing some funky blues. Very friendly locals. Very friendly owner. Spoke a bit of English too which helped. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced compared to the rest of the vegan places I’ve tried in Japan. I foolishly got mine take-away before I realised how epic this joint is, wish I’d stayed there all night to be honest.

A must visit! - Edit
Hidden away in the north east of kyoto, on the sneaky second floor of otherwise uninteresting apartment buildings. The place inside is like a stone cavern, all decorated with awesome memarobilia giving it such a cosy, chill feel. It feels like a getaway to a different land. The food was delicious and plenty and the shakes were creamy and satisfying.

Vegan bar that opens until midnight, relaxing and unique vibe, delicious food and drinks - Edit
Natural Food Village is another one of my favorite little hideouts to relax and have a great time in Kyoto. It is probably the only vegan place in Kyoto that opens until late at night so this is always an option when all the other places are closed. I love the dimly lit space and quirky decor which is a good place to get away from your usual routine. The food and drinks are flavorful and comforting; I especially love the katsudon with a sweet and sour sauce that's so good. The tempeh chips, chijimi , rum chai and fruity beers are also delicious. The owner is the only person running the place so you might have to wait for a bit but he is the most calm and relaxed person I've met. It's almost surreal to see how zen he is when he works. Highly recommend.
