Fantastic guesthouse and meals - Edit
We stayed two nights and had a wonderful experience. Such a gracious host who took good care of us and served 4 home cooked, locally sourced meal. So much attention to detail - a cooking style which really allows the flavours of each food to shine and be complemented rather than overshone. There were so many little dishes to try, and many new foods, all of which were delicious. I planned this section of my travels around staying here and would encourage anyone else to as well.

Super food in a great location - Edit
We very much enjoyed our stay here. The lodge is set in the beautiful area of Hakuba near the ski resorts. We were served delicious homemade and largely home grown vegan food for dinner and breakfast. Thoroughly recommended!

Excellent Vegan Inn - Edit
We stayed here during our trip to Hakuba Goryu & 47 which are a short drive from the inn. The food was excellent as was the host and the stay in general. We were served various vegan macrobiotic dishes for dinner and all were delicious. If you are a vegetarian/vegan and looking for somewhere to stay near the aforementioned ski resorts for a reasonable price that serves vegan food, I would highly recommend the Pumpkin Inn.

Cozy and nice place - Edit
I made a reservation by e-mail a day before my visit. It was really good time. I'm not a vegan but my friend who is vegan said it was the most satisfying meal he’ve ever visited during this winter season in Hakuba. Of course, it was a very good meal for me even not vegan. Also they drop us to our place after the dinner.

Perfection beyond imagination - Edit
No exaggeration. The family hosting us at this Airbnb offers a vegan set menu and it was unbelievable. So much food, everything was incredible and done with so much care and detail. Everything was impeccably sourced, organic and vegan. I love Japanese cuisine but struggle to find many too many vegan items travelling here... This meal was so long awaited!! I haven’t included everything we ate ( I was too busy eating ). The mother cooked everything herself and even surprised us with a cute birthday organic vegan carob cake for my partners 30th birthday. So amazing !!! Highly highly suggest coming here and staying at the pension! The organic rice sake was the best sake I have had over the years of being here as well. I wish I could eat here allll the time😄

Absolutely amazing - Edit
We stayed here and they were so wonderful and acommodating. Our dinner was incredible, the food was immaculate, every little dish came out like an artwork. All ingredients were organic and were explained by Kodai - it felt as though we were a part of their family.

Excellent Vegan Dinner in Hakuba - Edit
Natural Pension Pumpkin offers a vegan dinner in the traditional Japanese style. It is by reservation only at least one day before so they have time to prepare it.
Read moreI came across a flyer advertising this dinner at the Hakuba bus station upon arrival and made a reservation for the following night. Every vegan or vegetarian visiting Hakuba should know about this place!
The dinner exceeded my expectations. It was delicious, beautifully presented, and plenty of food. Every dish was photo worthy.
It is a set menu with multiple dishes. It includes Japanese tea. Dessert, such as sesame soy based ice cream, can be provided for a nominal extra fee.
Kodai, the son of the chef (his mother), was the server. He's learning English and does a good job of explaining the food even with a limited vocabulary. He's a sweetheart and it's obvious that he and his Mom put a lot of care into the meal.
It's an experience and well worth it.
Highly recommend!
Note: There is no a la carte menu at the time of writing. If you have special requests, I'd recommend asking if you can be accommodated. They'll likely be able to do so with the advance notice.
Pros: Excellent food, Friendly staff, Cozy atmosphere
