Vegan Dinner @ Nippon

🌱 VEGAN MISO SOUP
💰: £3.50
💭: it was good. However, I felt there were better starters to have, more full of flavour.
🤷🏽‍♀️: Order again? I wouldn’t but my partner would.

🌱 VEGAN SWEET POTATO KOROKKE
💰: £6.50
💭: very tasty. The Japanese fruity sauce was delicious and sweet.
🤷🏽‍♀️: Order again? Yes

🌱 VEGAN NIGIRI
💰: £4.75
💭: we chose inari.
🤷🏽‍♀️: Order again? Yes

🌱 VEGAN VEGETABLE CURRY KATSU
💰: £13.50
💭: the vegetables were tempura style which was delicious with the sauce. This was my favourite dish and I would highly recommend if your looking for comfort food!
🤷🏽‍♀️: Order again? Yes

🌱 VEGAN VEGETABLE CHILLI NOODLE STIR FRY
💰: £13.95
💭: Very spicey! The dish was full of flavour and the tofu was excellent.
🤷🏽‍♀️: Order again? Yes

📝: I love that they have a separate vegan menu! To better cater to vegans they could have more choices.

Tasty food, but not very exciting menu

I used to go here a lot when I ate meat but only twice in 3 years since being vegan and the menu has not changed. The menu doesnt offer anything exciting and they seem to be sticking with it which is disappointing! The vegan sushi is excellent. The noodles can be a bit boring and something that can be made at home. The atmosphere is very chilled. Overall, ok options but dont expect anything mind-blowing!

Pros: Chilled atmosphere , Great staff, Sushi

Cons: Expensive, Boring menu

Solid food

First of all its great that they ask you about dietary preferences right when you enter. I could immediately get a look at the vegan menu.
The menu itself does offer a vatiety from noodles, rice and sushi dishes.
I had the vegan bento box combining a lot of different options.
I really enjoyed the tempura and the sushi.
The edamame were really salty, but in themselves alright.
My partner had the curry udon noodles. He found them tasty, I found them a bit bland.

Pros: Different options, Tasty tempura

Cons: Very salty edamame

Got a takeaway from the dedicated vegan menu. Didn't feel like the freshest sushi ever but most vegan sushi gets a thumbs up from me regardless. Not bad, but I've had loads better, and Glasgow has some great vegan spots.

Ok but wouldn’t rush back

I was happy to have a vegan menu. Starters and mains came out together which I wasn’t expecting. Good was ok, the tofu was bland in my option. Service was good.

Separate vegan menu

I always appreciate an entirely separate vegan menu. The sushi was perfect and the side portion of yaki soba was huge. It is expensive so won't be back often but good for an occasion.

Pros: Vegan menu, Generous portion sizes

Cons: Expensive

Good vegan selection

Really great food and a good vegan selection. Cocktails were nice. Service was a bit slow (the place seemed fairly quiet) but the food itself was quick after it had been ordered.

Pros: Tasty food , Good vegan options

Cons: Service a little slow

Food good, service so so

Nippon Kitchen has a separate vegan menu with plenty of options. The food is good and portions are substantial. We also had the House Flight of three sake tasters, which was interesting. Service is not unfriendly but it can be hard to get the staff’s attention. A tips was added automatically to the bill even though the menu stated this is done for parties of six or more (we were two).

Pros: Separate vegan menu with lots of options

Cons: Hard to get staff’s attention, Tips added to bill automatically

Nippon Kitchen

I’ve been to Nippon Kitchen many times. I find service is either amazing or poor - never in between. The vegan bento box is great value for money and tastes great. Included in the bento box for about £11 - miso soup, 3 sushi rolls, veg tempura, 2 dumplings, soy beans, curry and rice. Ordering meals separately, I find is expensive and not worth it. Overall love the restaurant and definitely would go back. Clear, separate vegan menus.

Pros: Separate vegan menus with lots of options , Good food

Cons: Service can be hit or miss, Expensive if not ordering the bento box

Amazing, wish I could give 5 stars

Nippon is my fave restaurant ever and I love it even more because of the fact it has a fully separate vegan menu with loads of options !

I had the vegan bento box and cucumber maki and they were both amazing dishes packed with flavour. The service was very quick and super friendly

Pros: Loads of vegan options, Full vegan menu, Great prices

Cons: None

Noodles

Yet to have a bad meal from here! Vegan options are clearly marked on the menu & I loooove the veg noodles. Perfect portion sizes & reasonably priced too.

Pros: Noodles , Clearly marked vegan options

Disappointing...

I wish I took the time to read some of the reviews before visiting, I would have saved myself some money...
I did not enjoy any of the dishes I had here: both starter and main were either very salted or overly sweet...so if the meal tasted of anything else, I am unable to say.

Pros: Good service, Nice location, Overall atmosphere

Cons: The food, Expensive, The presentation of the food

Sadly bland.

I've visited nippon a lot over the last six years, maybe more than any other Japanese eatery and it sasdsens me to have seen its decline. Staff are no longer warm and friendly, the vegs options are no longer fresh or filling and the portions have seemingly become smaller. Maybe the love has gone and someone behind the scenes has taken their hands of the wheel but I used to recommend Nippon Kitchen a lot. Sadly I never seem to feel the need these days. A seperate vegan menu IS great though and they can't be faulted for being one of the first Japanese eateries in Glasgow to embrace the potential vegan audience and maybe that reputation will carry them for a while but unless they shake up their standards I fear that Nippon Kitchen's sun will truly set some day .

Pros: A seperate menu.

Cons: Many.

Not quite as good as it used to be... but still very tasty and filling

I've visited the Nippon Kitchen LOTS of times over the past 5 years - the food is tasty, plenty on the vegan menu and service is generally friendly. I definitely do recommend it. But it feels like in the past few months, standards have slipped just a wee bit - waiting staff not quite so friendly and knowledgeable, uniforms looking a bit grubby, and new metal chairs that feel a bit fake. I'm sure most of this could be remedied. NK used to feel like a special place to go, now it just feels 'quite good'.

Pros: Amazing flavours, Good location, Plenty of choice for vegans

Cons: Waiting staff sometimes fab - but not always.

Fantastic place to eat

Fancied coming here for ages, finally tried it last week at lunch time. They do a special deal where you get 2 courses for 10.95 I’m sure - I had the vegetable gyoza and the tempura veg katsu curry, both were incredible and I’ll definitely be back for more! They have a separate vegan menu too with loads of options

Pros: Separate vegan menu, Good portions

Best Japanese curry outside of Japan

Extensive vegan menu. The bento box had a lot of food, and it was all exceptional. The curry sauce? Some of the best I’ve had, even in Japan. Service was attentive and kind. Worth a stop in, especially if you’re in a group with non-vegans.

Pros: Curry, Service size

Cons: Moderately-high priced

Not everything is great...

We had a miso ramen (which was great) and rice with tofu and green tea (which was really bland) here. The green tea with free refills for 2.50pounds is good. The vegan menu is large so it's definitely a good choice, but in general the dishes do not have enough fresh vegetables in them.

Pros: Large vegan menu, Central location, Free refill green tea

Cons: Some dsihes are bland, Not enough vegetables

Not great value

I feel portions have shrunk and the tempura are extortionate considering how little you get.

Impressive vegan menu

We were really impressed by the vegan menu at Nippon Kitchen. Our starter of vegetable skewers came in a lovely sauce and the spicy edamame built up to producing a really good kick. Our mains (both noodle-based dishes) were also impressive and came in generous portion sizes. It took us ages to getting around to giving Nippon Kitchen a try, but I’m sure we’ll be back soon.

Will never return

I reserved a table on a week night and was seated in a tiny table next to the kitchen despite plenty of available tables at the front. I was literally seated in the kitchen. But the worst part was they served me chicken instead of tofu!!! And I only discovered after taking a bite. They removed it and brought me the tofu dish, but no discount or complimentary items were offered. Very disappointed and will never ever return.

Separate vegan menu

A substantial amount of options on the vegan menu, mains sides and sushi. I only had a few pieces of sushi but was tempted by the katsu curry. Don't go to Yo! across the road, go here!

Fantastic vegan Japanese

Went in here on a spur of the moment having seen a few vegan options on the menu outside only to be presented with a dedicated vegan menu inside! The food was fabulous and the atmosphere was great. Love this place and will go back.

Pros: Dedicated vegan menu, Great food, Great atmosphere and decor

Cons: There is fish and meat served here

Consistently tasty

My boyfriend and I have visited many times and tried many dishes but always go back to our favorites- the tofu with green tea for him and the spicy tofu noodle soup, without noodles, for me. I honestly dream about that soup it’s so tasty and not so spicy you can’t enjoy it. Any problems we’ve ever had with dishes have been quickly resolved. We have visited with Omni parents who have enjoyed their experience too.

Pros: A whole vegan menu - clear labeling, Staff quick to resolve issues

Cons: Can be quite loud when it’s busy

Bad service

I had a dinner there with couple of my friends last week. Dishes there were fine but not authentic. Sushi rice was super loose, which was not what it should be. Service there was horrible. We asked menu twice and wait for twenty minutes. No one responded. One waitress nearly spilled hot water on my friend. We asked manager for help. She claimed it was an accident but it was clearly not. Worst experience ever. I will never comeback again.

Bloody shocking

Went for lunch couple of weeks ago for lunch and it was fab so went there tonight for dinner. Asked for vegan menu. Choose from it. The waitress pointed out " oh this isn't vegan" so with a worrying glance ordered three other starters. When they arrived we were half way through and thought we only ordered 3 but there is 4. When asked waitress said " oh that one isnt vegan" after we started eating it!!!! Ffs if that was a peanut allergy you would be calling 999. WTF. didn't seemed concerned. Very up set daughter spoiled our whole evening. Paid for drinks and starters even though didnt eat 2 of them. They took the non vegan one off bill. Certainly would NOT recommend.

Pros: Very relaxing place

Cons: Don't trust menu. , Staff dont know what they are talking about.
