Superb All Vegetarian Natural Food store with vegan deli - Edit
This is the best grocery store in San Diego and best natural food store I have been to in awhile. OB People’s Food Co-op is community owned since 1971 and is a vegetarian grocery store. I love the vibe here. All produce is organic with many local items along with some unique items. Bulk bins are solid.
Read moreBonus points for the all vegan Deli. I went with the People’s Rueben Sandwich. It came with tempeh bacon, sauerkraut, vegan smoked gouda cheese, and red russian dressing on rye bread. It was quite alright.
Compostable produce bags. Affordable prices. What’s not to like?
They are open daily from 8am to 9pm.
Highly recommended!
Pros: friendly staff, all vegetarian , vegan deli

ALL vegetarian: no meat, fish, fowl at least. - Edit
ALL vegetarian: no meat, fish, fowl at least. discounted culled produce thus affordable.
Read moreafter my employment at rebel bakers in my 20's i then applied for job at people's and was rejected/denied: b/c i "just said no to drugs" and that was the reference the people's co-op had got from rebel bakers [we had supplied our bread to people co-op. so a drugless quality that ought have got me hired, instead was cause for me not being trusted to become drugless employee, as if i'd snitch on druggie fellow employees or whatever. so, they kinda ruined my life that way. an entire alternative/alternate life coulda been mine and was/is on/in a parallel universe. riding waves, working people's co-op to pay rent at my childhood home of the heart where i had lived with beloved gramma in HS. affordable 2bedroom beach cottage half block to the surf and sand !
Pros: People’s has Live Music upstairs at our Vegan Deli, You can also post events on our Community Board, ALL vegetarian: no meat, fish, fowl at least.
Cons: original location when i was kid it was too dark.., when HS teen they lure me w/illegal coffee instead, instead of vegan healthy food2grow on, offer job

Vegan Friendly - Edit
This was my first time at a “co-op” market, but I love the concept. The store is very vegan-friendly, with a vegan deli on the second floor. I mainly wanted to look for more “hard to find” vegan products and was happy with the selection. The produce was beautiful and fresh. The prices were a bit higher for some items than in other stores, and the staff was neither friendly nor rude.

Grocery Alternative - Edit
Finding seeded organic grapes and watermelon here is morely like than other spots. Deli supports plant based cuisine. Quality is who prepping at the time. 2 floor and outdoor seating. Customer service is fine. Parking tight on busy day. One of the few who may honor membership from another coop. Need better refunding process for defective product if you're just coming through.

I love shopping here, because they have one of the best bulk selections I’ve ever seen. You can get all sorts of things, including bulk clay, tea, rice etc. The produce is also great, fresh and local.

Lots of options! - Edit
This market was great!! It has so many plant based options. Coming from Canada, it was fun to see different brands. We picked up a few snacks for our hotel room.

Great! - Edit
Okay, this place is great. I've been doing full load grocery runs here for 10+ years. Always great high vibe fruits and veggies. Excellent bulk section. Excellent high quality dried herbs and spices bulk section. This is a young hip(py) happening place where you can also get a homemade meal upstairs. (great price on quinoa too) So glad it's here.

How I spent my last day in town - Edit
Great food co-op. I don't think I have ever been to one that was completely veg. So cool. They didn't have a whole lot of new indie products - you can buy most of it at other stores - but there was still enough for this Canadian to buy more than her traveling back pack could handle.
Read moreHighlights were the raw truffles - UliMana (I got the Mayan ones), the deli (healthy stuff and not so healthy stuff), good selection of cheezes (some haven't made it to Canada yet), good selection of Field Roast (again, not in Canada yet), local organic oranges for 59c a pound (!) and a nice raw snack section. I also was happy to find some locally made food bags and wrapping that take the place of plastic. They have made with nylon on the inside and fun fabric on the outside.
The bakery section of the deli was a little disappointing, I was hoping for some outrageously decedent vegan sweets, but I still managed to get some apple cake (yum!) a pumpkin puff cookie (pretty good) and agave sweetened chocolate chip cookies (I want more!)
Pros: all vegetarian!, deli, large selection

Best store in the area - Edit
This store is just great! We came here for travel supplies couple of times during our short trip to San Diego. Wide selections, lots of local products (breads, meals to go, etc) that you can't find anywhere else. Atmosphere was brisk and lively. Didn't eat at the cafe upstairs but food looked solid. We visited pretty much all the health food stores in the area and this one definitely stood out.
