There are almost no vegan options in this area of Wakayama. I decided to walk down to this place from Yunomine Onsen and give it a shot as I saw they serve tofu dishes. It’s a small bar in a tiny onsen town just off the Kumano Kodo.
Read moreThe worker there spoke some English, him and the chef were familiar with vegetarian and vegan food and double checked that I can’t eat bonito flakes. I ordered a rice ball, two kinds of tofu, and the radish salad. Everything was so delicious, and the tofu and rice all come from local producers.
These are Japanese bar snacks, not a traditional meal but I was still full afterwards.
