Great Takoyaki! - Edit
We are vegan and allergic to gluten. Until now, there were no vegan takoyaki around Namba and Shinsaibashi stations. We had given up on trying the local cuisine, but we have found the one and only takoyaki.
Read moreIt was wonderful. We ordered the takoyaki plate and the 1500 yen kushikatsu, both of which are vegan and gluten-free. The takoyaki is made with soybeans instead of wheat flour, so it is very healthy and hearty. Drinks are only 200 yen and you can make your own. My friend was pleased with the wide variety of scotch and bourbon. Gluten free beer is also available for 200 yen. Highly recommended.
Pros: affordable, All Vegan Menu Also suitable for gluten-free, Cool Place

Takoyaki - Edit
Another one-woman show like their sister restaurant but fully vegan! Preferred the okonomiyaki from the other Oko, but still good. Also, you can’t really beat the price.

Yummy Vegan Takoyaki - Edit
Cute little spot with vegan and gluten free Takoyaki. The venue was so cute and had pens to draw on the walls while you wait. Definitely going to try and come back if I have time

Disappointing - Edit
Unfortunately I can’t recommend this place. It is not too hygienic and rather chaotic. The food is not too bad, but the environment makes it quite unpleasant. Although the place emphasizes sustainability everything comes in disposable food containers, even if you eat in.

Awesome sweet punky place with great vegan food! - Edit
Incredibly awesome, cute and punky completely vegan restaurant. Very chilled western ambience with nice music. Run by a single lady who does a fantastic job 🫶.

Had the Takoyaki/Kushikatso-Menu and it was fantastic. I took the extra vegan cheese and spicy sauce option and was not disappointed, it actually was quite hot and yummy.
Pros: Awesome ambience., Nice music., Super yummy food.

Great Okonomiyaki - Edit
This is probably one of my favourite places in Japan. A one woman show, Shiho, who takes orders and cooks everything with enthusiasm. There's always a queue but well worth it. It's like a grown up student dive where you help yourself to drinks paying into an honesty box. Food was all first rate and she was very clear on what was vegan and what was vegetarian.

We waited an hour for a seat as only one lady does it all. About 12 seats. Such a tasty menu and you can graffiti the wall whilst you wait.

Echt super kleiner Imbiss der sehr leckeres veganes Takoyaki und Okononiyaki anbietet. Innen herrscht ein tolles, hippes Ambiente. Man darf auch mit Stiften die Wände gestalten.

The best place in Osaka - Edit
This was our favorite place to eat out in Osaka. They mainly serve Takoyaki, probably the most famous dish in Osaka. You can also get some sides like fries, edamame or a miso soup. We were so glad to find this place, so we could try Takoyaki as this is normally made with octopus. The restaurant is really small with just handfull of seats available. So be sure to arrive soon after it opens up or be ready to wait for a while. The whole place is covered in grafiti with loads of vegan messages and it is honestly just such a cool place. If you just have time for one place in Osaka, be sure to not miss out on coming here!

Absolutely smashing and very authentic tasting takoyaki cooked single-handely by the chef/owner. Cool place with good vibes and laid-back drinks service. The queue was long but the wait was worth it. Next time we’ll go outside of busy new times.

Tasty and fun! - Edit
We tried a couple of different flavours of takoyaki, along with a side of pickles and fried battered vegetables. It was a really tasty and filling meal, in a cool and funky location. It's quite small and can't seat many, so the queue is quite long - we waited 45 minutes but people had been waiting almost 2 hours. But once you've ordered the service is pretty quick and the food is worth it, especially as a late night meal to end the night.

Highly recommend this Takoyaki - Edit
Initially tried going to the okonomiyaki restaurant but the queue was quite long so opted for the takoyaki restaurant down the road. There was a fair wait as there was only one person taking orders and cooking. But she was so enthusiastic! I got 2 takoyakis as I wanted to try the different topics - it ended up being very filling. The takoyaki was extremely delicious- 10/10 recommend!

Oko Tako was an excellent place to visit after a long day of exploring Osaka.
Read moreThe atmosphere is very nice and it’s very self serve which I thought was quite interesting and gave the restaurant a sort of home like vibe. Just an fyi There is very limited seating inside the restaurant!
I had the cold tofu, assorted skewers and the spicy Takoyaki (which was surprisingly quite spicy at times). It was a lot more food than I needed but it was all very good!
Pros: Great atmosphere , Excellent food
Cons: Limited seating

Great food, great vibes, small space - Edit
Really unique place. It is very small and can get cramped if there‘s some people there. Also the interior is very charming (info flyers, stickers and writings on all the walls), but I imagine it can be pretty overwhelming too. Don‘t come here if you need to relax 😅

We arrived in Osaka much later than we had hoped and were glad to see that there was a vegan place still open. Great first impression of Osaka. Amazing food and a completely different feel to the rest of Japan. Very rough and ready.

Mediocre food, cramped space - Edit
This was not the place for me. We ordered kushikatsu and two versions of takoyaki, one with the standard sauce and the other with spicy sauce and vegan cheese. The takoyaki was served with miso soup and a red cabbage salad as well - the soup was really tasty.
Read moreThe takoyaki was quite burned. I'm not sure if it's supposed to have a kind of caramelised or charred effect, but it did just taste like it was burned. That was the predominant flavour, as the standard sauce was unremarkable and the balls themselves were very bland. Inside they had a texture that was reminiscent of veggie fingers - soft potato and small pieces of carrot and pea. The spicy sauce added some flavour, but the cheese was unremarkable.
The kushikatsu was ok. The mushrooms were juicy and flavoursome.
It's a very small and crowded spot, which is not really what I wanted after a hot and tiring day out and about. You are really squeezed in with other people. It was especially difficult to reach the drinks station. As far as we could see, the only soft drink was water. There were a few syrups you could add and a sign promoting the creation of mocktails, but we couldn't see any base or elements besides these, so if you're not drinking alcohol the options are poor.

Neat! - Edit
Super cool concept! I never got to eat takoyaki before going vego when i was 20 like 10 years ago now so it was neat to be able to experience it. My partner assured me that it’s very close to what takoyaki is really like, personally I just found them to be enjoyable dough balls, not super special but nice to eat in a quick pinch. The restaurant had decent portions, the food came out very quick. My partner got the classic and I got the ketchup-mayo sauce mix, which was a little strong in flavour but still pretty good! Would defs go back and try the other flavours
