Fresh veges and bread

This market is all vegetarian, but doesn’t have many specialty vegan items. If you want to stock up on fresh fruit, veges, bread etc then it’s great. Indo Tempeh House have a stall with about half vegan options and great tempeh to takeaway, and Ananda Simply Wholefoods often have a stall too selling hot food and vegan burger patties and sausages to take home. Dogs not allowed in the market area.

Pros: All vegetarian , Always parking nearby

Cons: Not many specialty vegan options

Not that great, don’t bother as a tourist.

A few breads and things. Nothing really for vegans and a bit far out to get to.

Excellent Farmers Market and all vegetarian

I just love this Farmers Market. It is thought to be the world's only vegetarian Farmers' Market and is certainly the only one I know of in NZ. It is in a great location by the river in leafy Opawa at the foot of the Port Hills.

Lots of lovely market stalls with many offering free tasters. You might find nut cheeses, shitake mushrooms, juices and of course a range of fruit and vegetables grown by the people selling them.

The market often runs special days and events such as s strawberry festival or potato growing competitions for kids. There is often live music.

Pros: no meat, lovely people, gorgeous location
