Fantastic vegan food with a great atmosphere and service! - Edit
We stumbled upon PLANTA Cocina during a trip to DC and were so happy we did. All of the food we ordered was fantastic! We ordered several appetizers and entrees to share, and they were all delicious. Of the appetizers, we especially liked the Queso Fundido--so flavorful that we almost ordered another one!

In my top 2 vegan restaurants worldwide - Edit
PLANTA Cocina is now ranked for my husband and me in a tie with Plant in Asheville, NC. We were only in DC for 2 nights. cause our dinner there on the first night was so good, we returned for a Saturday brunch. The food and cocktails are pricier than we’re used to, but we believe that everything was worth it. Everything we ate was a perfect balance of taste and texture. We loved our drinks. The food that I can’t get out of my mind were the Torched and Pressed sushi and the Criquetas. My husband loved his Al Pastor Bowl. For brunch, the Baja Burrito was flawless, and we also loved the Chilaquiles. The Spinach Mushroom Quesadilla was delicious, but that burrito would not give up the spotlight. We wrapped up with the horchata cheesecake, and it was dreamy. The service was impeccable. The setting was beautiful and welcoming. #Veganuary

Tasty, pricey, weird portions - Edit
Taking advantage of their deals is pretty key to not breaking the bank. Like their maki Mondays is awesome, and their sushi is soooooo good. Other items on the menu can be deceptive serving sizes, or else not come with anything to accompany it? Like a mushroom dish is just mushrooms, no rice or starch or veggies to accompany it, and it costs nearly $20. Very tasty, but it just feels incomplete. Service is great, ambiance is great, food is tasty. I do wish there were ways to see what the dish is before you order it.

Above & Beyond for Food Allergy Accommodations - Edit
The staff went above and beyond to accommodate the many food allergies in our group (from vegan, gluten free, nut allergy, cinnamon allergy, to corn allergy). When we mentioned our allergies to our waiter, he immediately marked our menus with what dishes could be modified and/or what dishes contained the allergens. There was something for each of us! Throughout the night the staff were all attentive, kind, and worked incredibly well as a team. This is all before we even tried the food! Our meals were the perfect balance of savory and sweet, unique dips, sauces, and some of the best “soft” sesame tofu I have ever had. Dessert options were also a welcome sight for my boyfriend’s birthday, and the pumpkin cheesecake tasted like actual cheesecake! Wouldn’t have known it was vegan if I did not know ahead of time. Overall, 5 stars and will be at the top of our list to revisit next time we are on the east coast! Reservations are highly preferred on weekends - heads up.

So many dishes - Edit
Went here for my birthday with my non-vegan family. We ordered probably 2/3 of the menu and they all loved basically every dish. I had been to their LA location but this one is just as good!!

We had a hand roll (like sushi) of rice, sweet potato and avocado for a starter.
Read moreCrab cake was beautifully prepared and delicious. Pasta with woodland mushrooms was fabulous.
Finished with a pumpkin cheesecake that was wildly overpriced but very good.

Fine vegan dining - Edit
Small plates restaurant with many diverse vegan options. Our party shared the queso fundido and the broccoli appetizers and had a few other courses. Everything was amazing and even though my meat-loving family complained about the lack of chicken, they also loved all their dishes. The decor was beautiful as well.

The best Planta - Edit
I’ve been to a bunch of Plantas and this menu is my fave. So many yummy offerings, you can’t go wrong. Favorites include the spicy tuna roll, torched and pressed, spicy tuna hand roll, queso fundido, bang bang broccoli, and udon noodles.

Swanky, Tasty, a bit Pricey - Edit
Very cool date night atmosphere. We got the dragon roll and the firecracker roll, both were delicious. We also got croquettes (make sure you time it for happy hour, they're half price and you still only get 3 for $8) which were incredibly tasty, the cashew mozzarella was rich and flavorful. The menu is on the pricey side and very heavy on mushrooms

Another Great Planta Restaurant - Edit
I was in DC and saw that this place recently opened so had to stop by. I’m a big fan of the Planta franchise with Planta Queen being my favorite. I ordered the coconut ceviche, croquetas, and maitake mushrooms. Everything was great, but I would of liked to see some chips or something with the ceviche as it came alone. I’d definitely like to visit again and try other unique menu items.

Delightful food! - Edit
I loved the food at Planta Cocina, especially the California artichoke, and the atmosphere is light and beautiful! This is a lovely spot for a special meal.
Read moreHowever, they still have a ways to go with the service. We had a reservation on Father’s Day, and even though half the tables were open, the host left us standing at her station while she walked around the restaurant. Once we were seated, two different people came to our table and introduced themselves as our server but it was just a mixup! They also piled up all the pillows on the patio and stuffed them into garbage bags in the middle of dinner service—it made for a weird view from the front windows, which look out on a corner with lots of foot traffic.
Pros: Exquisite food, Lovely atmosphere
Cons: Service

first time there - Edit
I am very familiar with Planta in Bethesda, MD. This was my first time trying Planta Cocina and I liked the atmosphere. The food at Planta restaurants is always good, though I wished for more latin inspired than asian inspired, considering this is a "cocina." Crabless cake, queso, croquettes, sushi. I also took home tres leches cake, which was ok. Favorite was the croquettes by far!
