So good we went back the next day

One of the best vegan breakfasts we've had anywhere. Strikes a rare balance between all the best notes of a full breakfast and feeling clean and healthful. Staff were super helpful and accommodating. Also took away a couple of sandos for lunch and both of those were excellent too.

Pros: Friendly staff, Excellent food, Nice atmosphere

Best burger ever

The quarter pounder is next level!! How they melt the cheez onto the patty and crispy bits come out the sides... Wow. The custard doughnut was also amazing and the mushroom leek pie and coconut iced coffee were really good too.

The BEST Vegan Cafe.

Simply the best in food, service and atmosphere. I have been to Portershed more times than I can count. I love that everything is made in house and freshly made. And of course, the Hash Attack burger is the BEST brekkie burger I have ever had. And I'm sure Emma makes them bigger every time I order one to see if I can finish it.. It has beaten me a couple of times! 😄

Pros: Food, Service, Freshly made

Cons: It's not open 7 days 😪

Outstanding

We only had time for coffee and cakes but they were delicious. So much to choose from in the cabinet (savoury and sweet) plus they have a menu too. Also an amazing selection of vegan grocery goods (didn’t see any fresh produce).

Pros: Range of vegan food, Nice atmosphere, Great friendly staff

Cons: A little out of the town centre - worth the walk

Vegan Wonderland not to be missed

Got the big Brekky and it was absolutely mind blowing. Beans had an amazing smoky flavor and the chorizo sausage was the best vegan sausage I’ve ever had. The store sells tons of vegan products and has a cozy atmosphere with very friendly staff. Do not skip on this gem as it’s one of the best vegan spots in NZ!

Great store, mixed feelings about café

I've been to Portershed twice so far, and actually cannot decide what I think of it. I was hoping to get breakfast but there's no actual breakfast item on the menu, unless you eat burgers and fries for breakfast. I miss options such as pancakes or eggs benny.

The cabinet options are decent but I was a bit disappointed that the staff didn't offer to heat up or toast the sandwich for me, actually didn't even unwrap it from the plastic.

I would give three stars but giving one extra for the store, which is actually amazing and you can buy many items which are not available elsewhere. It's expensive, though.

Personal favourite: purple latte!

Loved their huge drink!

Nice coffee with a lot of choices on the menu and on the cabinet! Prices are from cheap to expensive so you have choice depending on your budget.
Special mention about their huge drink, I wish I could find that everywhere!
I liked also the fact that I could try the typical NZ sweets such as afghan or melting moment 😋

Pros: Big menu, Huge drink, NZ food and sweets

Cons: Not enough room, Seats are not cosy enough

Gluten Friendly Vegan Goodies

Love this place for a cake and coffee catch up. For fellow gluten free foodies there are menu and cabinet options. I can recommend the caramel brownie! Sometimes there will also be GF sandwiches in sourdough buns to take away. Great place to come for a bite and to pick up some vegan groceries.

Pros: Gluten free options, Vegan groceries available, Free 1 hour parking outside

Cons: Hard to park if free parks full

A lovely reintroduction to Christchurch

After more than a decade away, it’s lovely to come back and find this funky little gem in Addington Village. Great coffee, beautiful fresh salad and a tasty green smoothie made for a really good lunch after a walk across town. Has a vegan grocery store also. I hope to come back next time I visit. #Veganuary

A long-standing gem in Christchurch

This place has fantastic vegan options, from savoury to sweets and makes a lot of great stuff in-house. Some the sweets really do leave you wondering how it's actually vegan!!

Pros: A good, varied menu, Great coffees

Cons: Sometimes the service is slow, even when quiet, Staff friendliness can be hit and miss

AMAZING!

I can’t say enough good things about this place. 100% vegan, and the food is so reasonably priced it’s incredibly competitive. We stocked up on some date paste, and tried some chocolate.
Don’t be fooled by the basic menu. I normally don’t like vegan burgers, but this one is absolutely worth it. The cupcake was delicious as well!!
I’d say, just go!

Pros: Vegan , Competitive prices , Amazing

I won’t support them anymore

My daughter and I loved this place, I even ordered their produce boxes regularly to help support them while lockdown happened. Then they posted a horrible post on Facebook about how they were against the mandates to keep people like me safe (am immunocompromised). The owner seemed to think that my safety and other vulnerable peoples' safety was actually an attack on their own 'freedoms'. They even had the ignorance to use the word "discrimination" as though they were the actual victims. People were dying around them but because they had to wear masks and get immunised to continue to be open and help protect vulnerable humans they were the victims? It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad, disgusting and disappointing. I've never been in since and won't ever be back. I had to lock myself inside my house for months on end because of people who wouldn't wear masks, get vaccinated or follow the simple health guidelines - there is no way I would ever support this company or the owner again. Your 'freedoms' aren't more important than other peoples' lives.

Nice to be surrounded by so many lovely products.

Adored the chutney that came with the sausage roll and the coffee was nice too. I hope the UK’s vegan product prices make it to NZ too as certainly more accessible😄As for the fresh sausage roll, that was a good price and would highly recommend. It would have been nice to have had a few extra breakfast choices aside from the baked goods.

So flavourful

My partner is an absolute coffee snob and says it’s the standard for long blacks. I had a red velvet and was amazed at the flavours. We had delicious cabinet food totally amazing house made chutney, and the onion rings we again so so flavourful.
