Fantastic all-vegan southern food - Edit
Vegan versions of lots of popular southern dishes. We were blown away by how flavorful everything was! Omnivores will like it too — this food is good, not just good for vegan food. The ambiance is pleasant, too — while food is served in takeout containers, there are indoor and outdoor tables to enjoy the food, and the decor and music choices are great.

They have build your own biscuit on Sundays so I got a biscuit with honey chicken, cheese, avocado, and just egg. They honey chicken is what shined. The biscuit itself was good but hard to eat because it crumbled easily. Side of hushpuppies was yum too and got herb mayo which was perfect with them. Was plenty of food. I probably could have just had the biscuit and been plenty full.

Amazing southern vegan food - Edit
The extensive menu provided our group (me being the sole vegan) with an opportunity to try out a lot of the vegan takes on traditional southern/NC cuisine. Our favorites were:
Read more- Chicken strips (not fried)
- Kale salad
- Collard Greens
- Black-eyed peas and veggies
- NY style cheesecake (not Southern)
The fries and coleslaw were pretty good too.
I don’t know if they use commercial composting but everything was served in compostable disposable packaging (regardless if it was for in dining in or to go) so a lot of waste (but at least compostable not plastic nor styrofoam, which so many places use)

Great Restaurant For Transiting Vegans - Edit
They have great selections of sandwiches and drinks. They have a variety of desserts to choose from. From gluten-free to soy free to nut free, you can find a lot of options at this restaurant. It’s a great restaurant someone who is transitioning over Veganism.

Posting for my son: The Mac and Cheese was divine. I brought a friend who mostly eats meat & he said it was some of the best food he’s had in years. Service was great — guy behind the counter was really nice. The sweet potato pie was a perfect blend of sweet potatoes and goodness.

What a find! This place is absolutely incredible. I really appreciate the fact that the food is cooked to order, even if it meant we had to wait a little longer than expected, but only because the wait was 100% WORTH IT! I drug my parents here to get my vegan lunch (NC BBQ plate with slaw, collards, mac & cheese, cornbread & red velvet cake— all so delicious!) and my non-vegan parents opted to eat later after their doctors appointments at Duke. My parents just got snacks: my mom got sweet potato fries and my dad ended up getting cheesecake and said it was the best he'd ever had (even compared to non-vegan cheesecakes!). After their appointments, I was surprised BOTH my parents wanted to go back there to eat vegan soul food even when they're not vegan! My parents ended up splitting a NC BBQ plate and I got a second lunch because my first lunch was so delicious! I got the Hot Hunty Chkn Sandwich the second time around with the kale caesar salad and will be dreaming of it for months to come. I'm extremely excited to drive my parents to their follow up appointments for future meals here! My only wish was that it wasn't 2 hours away from us or else we would become regulars!

One of a kind Vegan Soul - Edit
We came here after taking a small tour or UNC to find some of the most unique soul food spots I've been too! From hushpuppies to Mac n' cheese to collards, this place checks all the Soul food boxes. I ordered the Eastern BBQ platter with a side of hushpuppies and Bilbo's Greens. Every item was delicious! The only gripe I had was the slaw, which lacked the same punch of flavors of the others. The rest of my family thoroughly enjoyed the cheesesteak, NC BBQ and the mac n' cheese. You can't go wrong with any item, but if I were here once, I would 100% order the hushpuppies and cornbread. The cornbread was by far the best part of the meal! They also had a bunch of lovely desserts on display, but we were well satisfied with our meal, so we skipped them. Service was also very kind and you get FREE drinks on your first visit. Would definitely come back if I become a Tar Heel 🐏🩵!

I came to Pure Soul for a quick breakfast after the gym. Ordered online and it was ready in less than 10 minutes. I had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. It was a little greasy, but really hit the spot. Would recommend.

Wow the food was so good, I can't wait to go back. Had the big kale caesar salad with fried chkn on top, very delicious, and side of mac & cheese which was great. Cornbread also hit the spot. We picked up takeout but the place looked very cute inside and out. Highly recommend!

Read moreI ordered the fish sandwich with soul mac as my side. It’s priced at $14.99 which is very reasonable for the portion size (I almost couldn’t finish it all but it was too good to not eat).
The tartar sauce was perfectly creamy and the mac is flavored wonderfully (a unique smoked taste but goes well with the cheesy blend).
If you mention it’s your first time they give you a free drink (iced tea or lemonade). What great PR!
Can’t wait to come back!

Everyone working here was incredibly kind and welcoming. I got the Kind Chkn Plate with mac & cheese and kale caesar salad. The chkn patty was perfectly crispy, and I loved it with some added hot sauce. The sides were delicious, too. I can't wait to eat here again!
