Still good

Used to eat here all the time at the location in Charlotteville. It's been many years since then and I was very happy to make a pit stop at this location for lunch. Healthy and delicious

FLAVORTOWN

Okay yum yum. Every ingredient here is so good but especially BBQ tofu and roasted mushrooms yummm. I like to get a bowl with kale as the main base and then do a little rice action. There is definitely some trial and error to find your perfect combo, but man this place is sooo good! Must try!! If there is a long line do not fear it moves fast!

Great spot to get a grain bowl or salad with vegan options. Tamari bowl was yum

Lots of choices: legumes, grains, greens, tofu, mushrooms

Pros: Lots of options, Customizable

Cons: Didn’t have a place to recycle bottles, Doesn’t have a dedicated grill for vegan food

New Favorite

There are a lot of places that serve “bowls” but this is one of the better ones. Very fresh ingredients and interesting combinations. They have done proposed combinations or you can make your own.

Pros: Fresh ingredients , Friendly, knowledgeable staff

Good for vegans

The BBQ Tofu is amazing, chili miso not bad either.

Pros: Fresh , Portions size is good for the price., Quick assembly line

Cons: Sometimes it’s crowded due to U of Del students

Great Build Your Own Bowl

Roots is a new restaurant similar to others I enjoy very much, e.g., Sweetgreen (chain) and Upbeet (Atlanta).

The concept is pretty straightforward. If you create a slew of tasty ingredients designed to be consumed bowl/salad style, then customers can build the perfect meal. It’s great for those of us who want to balance time and health.

The food was better than I was expecting—and I had high hopes! In other words, I was super happy with my meal.

Highly recommended.

Pros: Great portion size, Wide vegan selection, Great tasting food

So good!

I got the Mayweather bowl with miso tofu, subbed the cheese for broccoli, & took off the pesto (it contains cheese, but the lemon tahini is so good on its own!)

Pros: Very quick

Cons: No free parking

Great!

Just like the previous two reviewers, the southern bowl (less than $9) sounded like the most interesting one to me. I’m really glad I got it because it was absolutely delicious and was also very filling. If you leave out the cheese cubes it’s vegan. Other choices here as well but I only had a chance to eat here once while in town. Parking is not free anywhere in this general area so come with quarters or a credit card to pay the meters.

Pros: Flavor , Price reasonable , Large portions

Cons: Paid parking

Delicious Vegan Fast Food

I had the Southern Bowl with BBQ tofu (kale race and beans)--a nice flavorful alternative to Honeygrow. Whereas the latter is a pick and sit with a fair amount of options Asian style options, Roots is more interesting and eclectic in it's options.

Roots has capitalized on the increasing full serve food bar style restaurant model. But the greens are fresher and flavors bolder and more interesting than your Saladworks or Diablo Burrito rice and bean bowl.

For a quick vegan lunch, Roots is the best bet on Main Street. Also, if your wanting a break from the soy, the sautéed mushrooms are an excellent alternative (I had double mushrooms on my "Lola bowl" and was a very happy camper).

Pros: fresh and interesting vegan options , perfect for a quick inexpensive lunch

Cons: smoothies would be nice (water only)
