yummy Ethiopian - service gone downhill

Been here a few times, vegetarian platter for 2 is vegan. Very filling and inexpensive. You can try them out with a Groupon. Food isn't very spicy. Nice atmosphere. Sometimes there are live bands downstairs.

Best Ethiopian food in the city

This is my go-to for Ethiopian. It’s so good, always fresh, well packed for takeout which is important! I haven’t dined in here since 2019 so I can’t speak to the dine-in current experience, but it was good back then. My favourite item on their menu is the vegetable roll appetizer, but everything on the veggie platter is fantastic.

Pros: All of the vegan dishes are good!, Great for takeout , Fresh

Some of the best food I’ve ever had

I would give this place 5 stars if I could but omg this place was good. Get a tasting platter; it was so good and well worth the price. Honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

So great! You absolutely MUST try.

Loads of variety in the vegan menu and all six dishes were so uniquely flavourful. The atmosphere was super cozy, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. It was a great experience and I will definitely be back.

So wonderful 😍

I had the vegan platter for one and it was just the right amount of food. There were many options and I was able to choose six to assemble my veggie platter. It was so incredibly tasty!

I will most definitely be back for more, and more, and more.

Pros: Amazing vegan options, Such a flavourful menu, Wonderful staff [censored] very helpful

Excellent Ethiopian Food

The veggie wrap appetizer was amazing.

We had the vegetarian (all vegetarian options are vegan here) platter and everything was fantastic. The split pea was especially good.

Great atmosphere and service. They do serve meat as well, unfortunately.

Pros: Many vegan options , Delicious food, Good atmosphere

Cons: Serves meat

New name: An update from the owner and general manager

Please note that in December 2019, Pero Restaurant & Lounge and Selam Vegan joined in name to become Selam Restaurant & Lounge. The vegan only menu offered downstairs and the omnivore menu upstairs are now both available on the main floor and on both our websites for take-out. We did this to offer better service, for greater accessibility, and for everyone to enjoy the warmer ambience on the main floor. We look forward to serving you again. Amazing food and friendly staff

A great find with incredible food unlike anything I've tried before. Staff were really friendly and accommodating, they also provided recommendations when I was unsure what to pick for my platter. Also a really nice and calming ambience to the place. The portions were also massive and the prices were inexpensive.

Pros: All veggie options for the platter are vegan, Amazing staff, Good value

Loved it - Ambiance, Food, Service.

A really lovely dinner date experience here. My date and I had the vegetarian combination (which is actually all vegan, and GF) as well as the a veggie appetizer (because we were hungry!) and it was so delicious! Be prepared for messy eating because you eat with your hands but I was all for it. Perfect amount of spice, kick and balance of flavours.
The servers were also so sweet and kind! I just loved the ambiance (a little classier/cultural with art on the walls) and, since it looked like we were on a date, we were offered a spot in the back where there was a tent and it was just lovely, quiet, dimly lit and romantic. Perfect for a date if you're dining with someone who is vegan or vegetarian - quiet for good conversation and interesting food and atmosphere to stir up a good conversation. Definitely one of my go-tos in Toronto now!

Pros: Good value for quality food, Beautiful atmosphere, romantic and quiet , Servers are kind and attentive

Cons: None that I can think of, to be honest

Upscale Ethiopian

I really liked my meal at Pero. There are a few Ethiopian restos in this area but Pero is more upscale. A lovely ambiance with table clothes and a fireplace. There are some vegan appetizers but we went with the bargain veggie platter for 2. Lots of food and all delicious. Their injera is GF, too.
