Overrated

Ordered two types of tamales and both were very plain, essentially flavorless. Employees were not welcoming or kind.

It's inexpensive so that was good. There's nothing wrong with this place. It's just I saw all the 5 star reviews so went out of my way to go here. The Vegan Tacos El Bajon across the street was much better.

Blasé at best!

My experience at this establishment was such that I felt compelled to write my first review.First I never want to speak ill of a Vegan business, but we drove from Playa, and this place was vile both in service and taste.I would give zero stars if I could since this was the worst Mexican food I have ever had.Allow me to preface this review with a few details.I'm a Mexican American that frequently travels to Mexico to visit family.I currently live in arguably one of the worlds vegan meccas Portland. My mother has owned a fine Mexican restaurant for over 17 years.I think I can safely say we gave this place a fair try since my husband and I ordered the whole menu. All the unique Mexican gastronomy and rich chiles guisados has left this uninspired place. My guess is if you're obsessed with Instagramable food and Lululemon you'll love this place. The food lacked balance. The pozole was appalling it tasted like old fishy mushrooms. The moles black licorice like spice (hoja santa) was so overwhelming that it was inedible. All the fundamentals the grains and legumes were bland and in need of salt. The platanos were a greasy mess. The lentil tamal I had was all masa. The spicy chile verde was the only saving grace, along with the cute interior and back exterior. The bathroom was deplorable even for Mexico the toilet didn't flush and faucets stream was more of a leak. La cocinera no tenia mano para sabor,or as the guy from the fine vegan taco spot directly across the street said perhaps the chef was just having a bad day. His place El Bajon spoiler alert was incredible the best vegan tacos I have ever had!I digress, but see that rave review. In contrast to the tacos we ordered from suculenta, which we were told by the sole proprietor were actually good(an odd thing to say after we've just ordered tons of other stuff)never actually arrived to the table. Our hostess/sole proprietor was bizarre. She seemed annoyed from the moment we arrived almost as if she knew we'd see through her gimmick designed to lure in unsuspecting hipsters, which I couldn't help but notice she was actually kind to.I guess she knew her audience. The water she served me had something floating in it, and she never checked on us,or asked us if we enjoyed our meal another first for me in Mexico. In conclusion do yourself a favor and go across the street to Tacos El Bajon instead, which is what we ended up doing after paying and leaving all our food, which I can only hope was fed to strays
