Hidden Sushi in Grand Rapids

We stumbled upon Sushi Yama while trying to find a bathroom at Art Prize in Grand Rapids. And it was great little find.

Sushi Yama is definitely off the beaten path, but that leads to its charm. There are a few seats in the hallway outside the restaurant, but Sushi Yama feels more comfortable as a single- or double-person meal.

There are the standard Vegan rolls, which are tasty. But the atmosphere and the secretiveness of the restaurant are the real draw.

I recommend for a bite during lunch downtown, or maybe for a causal date with another.

Tasty and inexpensive

Good options for veggie rolls that are delicious and not as expensive as other places around town.
The space is very unassuming in the basement of McCay tower, but it's decorated nicely and the man who runs the place is friendly.
Mark your selections on the piece of paper, get rung up, and food will be brought out to you.
I love the aac, the sweet potato tempura, the house salad, and the hot green tea. Not sure if the kimchi rolls have fish sauce.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, Good prices, Good veggie roll selection

Cons: The miso soup is not vegan

Fantastic!

I went with colleagues for lunch. It was AMAZING. Sushi roll with kimchi and avocado? That’s a combo I would never have thought up myself but it was divine and so good it’s the type of thing you try to replicate at home. It was inexpensive the service was quick and the setting was small and quiet. Everyone, veg and Omni enjoyed the lunch. I’ll be going again while I’m in town!

Pros: Lots of vegan and veg options, Small and intimate setting, Quick and friendly service

Vegan Sushi

Small, intimate.....absolutely amazing food! Lots of vegan options (you have to try the sweet potato roll)!! Portion sizes are great, pricing is extremely reasonable and service is quick. As a bonus, the chef/owner is wonderful. Definitely a "must" when in Grand Rapids.

Cons: located in lower level of McKay Tower.

Weird Location/Awesome Food

So this sushi place is in the basement of the McKay Tower on Monroe Center, and while the environment feels like a mall food court, the food is top-notch. I have ate here several times, and each time I have been impressed. They have several veg-friendly options, including rolls with avocado, kim chi, sweet potato and many other delicious foods. Definitely recommend!

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Location
