Amazing chick’n! - Edit
We called here for a late lunch on 26th Sep 2024. The chefs Shiny and Latha were really friendly and explained the menu to us. I had a chick’n breaded fillet and hubby had similar but a wrap. The chick’n is made from mushroom but very chicken like and tasty. I also had a lemon cupcake that finished us off just right!

BEST Vegan Cakes in Chicago - Edit
This cake was one of the best, if not the best vegan cake I have ever tried. Out of all the vegan bakeries I’ve tried in Chicago, this takes the cake! Although it is a high price, it is the norm for vegan cakes. Entirely worth the price overall. The cake was moist and tender, the frosting was not intensely sweet like other places, and it was decorated beautifully. It is a bit of a drive from where I am, but I know I will return. Expect an order from me by November!!!

Worth a visit - Edit
This place has a big selection of cupcakes and other sweets, all vegan. And if you bring a little bit of time, you can also enjoy some really good burger or oyster mushroom "chicken".

Sweet vegan yum! - Edit
If you’re vegan (even if you’re not!) and you want delicious light and fluffy sweets, head to Sweet Vegan Bakes in Old Town for some delicious vegan desserts! I had the gluten-free brownie, and it was light and cakey and just the right amount of sweet. I don’t usually like frosting, but this vanilla frosting was absolutely divine! The chocolate covered vanilla cake truffles are truly amazing, and the chocolate chip cookies hot out of the oven were scrumptious! I also tried the vegan “steak and cheese” made with portobello mushrooms, and the seasoned potatoes, which were made to order and quite delicious, even for my non-vegan husband. The shop is small and very clean, the food is delicious, and Lata the manager was friendly and very helpful. I’m definitely coming back, and I’m excited to be able to order a delicious vegan birthday cake for my next birthday!

Nice vegan option in Chicago - Edit
I had the chick'n wrap (which is made out of oyster mushrooms the staff explained me, she was enormously friendly and chatty 😉) and a strawberry cupcake which was one of the best I ever had. Nevertheless it is quite expensive.

Fantastic Vegan Bakery - Edit
This is a minority woman owned bakery and it is fantastic. He owner and her staff are delightful. Always smiling and friendly. The selection of vegan sandwiches and baked goods is mouthwatering, especially the barbecue no beef sandwich and no crab cake. I love the lemon cupcakes.

Chef Cheryl sets the bar! - Edit
Chef Cheryl does it all every day for the past year since opening Sweet Vegan Bakes! You will never taste frosting this well balanced, light and fluffy with a smile in every bite! And If you “don’t do frosting” when you eat cake, you’re gonna be blown away and changing that tune because you never had frosting like Chef Cheryl’s! You won’t be able to put your fork down until EVERYTHING is gone. She took on a two cake order with less than a weeks notice and they were a huge hit at my sister’s wedding with almost every guest asking for seconds and demanding to know where they were from! We had the cinnamon cream cheese 12” cake and the raspberry lemon 8”! I’m ordering all my baking needs from Chef Cheryl! Please be sure that you do the same to sweeten your life!

Sweet Vegan Bakes - Edit
I had the jerk chick'n with the seasoned potatoes as a side. My fiancée had the creamy chicken salad wrap. Everything was delicious. We split a peach cobbler cupcake which was excellent. The place has a cafe style set up and you can see them making everything. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was on the higher priced side of vegan places I've been to.

Excellent Food - Edit
Their food was excellent and the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. I ordered the Creamy Chick'n Salad Wrap (fantastic) and opted for a side of Seasoned Potatoes, which was definitely the right call, as they were outstanding. I also split a Peach Cobbler Cupcake with my fiancé, which had filling throughout the cupcake. Lovely little café. There isn't a ton of seating, but since no one else was there it was perfect for our party of four.

Expensive - Edit
$3.50 for a single cookie is bad enough, but what is worse is that it is not until after you attempt to buy one that they tell you there is a 3-cookie minimum. Congratulations Sweet Vegan Bakes you got my $10.50, but you lost a potential repeat customer. On the up-side, the cookies are good. If you like good cookies, and hate money - this is place is great.

Hi Dougie-Fresh!
Read moreYou right, we have a variety of options in our bakery and we don’t what a customer wants until they choose. Therefore when ever a customer asks to purchase one cookie we immediately tell them that they are sold in 3s before they choose and before we ever reach the register. We are so sorry to hear that you won’t be returning. Thank you for taking the time to write this review, it is our hope you would consider visiting us again in the future!

INCREDIBLE - Edit
I like how many options there were, how even if something wasn’t on the shelves if they had the ingredients they made it, how welcoming and happy to help the staff were, how the chef talked to us about her creations, and about how we tried several things and it was all the best desserts I’ve had, and I’m not even vegan. Highly recommend this place. Just wow
