Creative and flavorful - Edit
In the world of vegan sushi this spot is very creative with delicate and surprising flavors. One thing I really appreciate is that they don’t drown things in sauce. They really lean into the quality ingredients.
Read moreIt has an interesting ambiance that works. They were playing classical Italian music while we were there. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ regardless I really enjoyed it and would definitely return.
Pros: Ambiance, Creative flavor combinations, Great happy hour choices.

Absolutely insane vegan Sushi - Edit
We are lucky enough to live around the corner from this amazing restaurant and just tried it for the first time and for sure not my last! Everything we tried was incredible and unique, including a sushi roll with a side of fire and a dish with a hidden hot pepper inside one of rolls! Treat yourself to this amazing vegan sushi!

Quality + Consistency - Edit
Already was enamored by this place in Berkeley as it is my go to and when I didn't want to wait 60+ minutes for Taiwanese food on Friday night, they had a walk in table available. The space is a covered in wooden slabs which makes the atmosphere more warm.

Sushis were delicious - Edit
The quality of the sushis were excellent. Everything was so fresh. Absolutely loved it. We tried their nigiri special. That included all the ten types of nigiri. Also ordered the Wedge and some tea. All of them tasted absolutely delicious. Our server Izzy was great. Not sure if I spelled her name correctly. She explained the menu clearly to us. She was very patient and answered all our questions. The inside was nicely decorated and was cosy. Would definitely go back.

Delicious food, delightful ambience! - Edit
Everything from the drinks to the food was incredible (and vegan!). My favorite items were the Poke Salad, the Crispy Cauli Bites, the cheesecake dessert, and the cold matcha drink. Parking in the neighborhood was easy, the lighting and ambiance were great, and the staff was kind and attentive. Even though the restaurant was full, it didn’t feel crowded or loud. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in the neighborhood!

This vegan sushi is better than what I had in Japan! - Edit
This place is incredible. Everything is beautifully prepared. They honor and prepare the vegetables with such care. You can tell everything is made with love. It’s so flavorful, savory and delicious. Some of our favorites were the Leahi roll combined with the poke salad (so fresh!), the Agedashi tofu (sooo savory!), the Point Reyes (super spicy but in the best way!) and the inari, eggplant and tomato sushi were just incredible. I really can’t say enough complimentary things - eating here was a true pleasure. The space is nicely designed and super clean, everyone behind the sushi bar and on the floor were extremely kind and attentive and the overall vibe was super relaxed and upscale without being pretentious at all. I’m a huge fan. My husband and I will be back many times! Vegans and non vegans alike will really, really enjoy this place.

Sensational Sushi - Edit
The Karaage and the Pacifica Roll, recommended by our cheerful and helpful server Junny, were two favorite dishes. The Karaage, a bowl of potato-crusted marinated soy cutlets, was baked just right. They weren’t oily and were delicious dipped in the spicy garlic aioli.
Read moreThe Pacifica, a specialty roll, was this creative sushi roll made with tempura eggplant, bell pepper, zucchini, carrot, yellow onion; teriyaki, garlic aioli, sweet soy. So many sweet and savory flavors and textures made this a memorable dish.
Pros: Menu of creative sushi rolls , Friendly service , Clean and pleasant ambience
Cons: Menu choices should include sunomono and mochi

Exquisite Food - Edit
My first experience with Tane Vegan Izakaya was in Honolulu in 2023. I had an amazing experience. While searching for vegan restaurants on a trip to Los Angeles, I was really excited to see that they had opened up a location in Highland Park just south of Pasadena. I ordered the roasted beet salad, the loaded potatoes and an avocado roll. The salad was beautifully presented with two types of roasted beets, pickled mangoes, baby spinach, edible flowers, pistachios and a citrus dressing. Each component of the salad was exquisitely executed. Normally, I would have ordered a specialty roll for the entree but I opted for the loaded potatoes instead. The potatoes were served fork tender but the star of the dish was the mushroom mix. Each bite was mushroom heaven. If you like mushrooms, don't pass on this dish. The avocado roll was excellent and the pickled ginger slices were perfect. I also enjoyed a mocktail made with pineapple juice and lilikoi syrup. The service was gracious and welcoming. It's a relatively small space so it would make sense to make a reservation especially on weekends. Tane Vegan Izakaya represents the cutting edge of plant-based dining.

Tane is Highland Park! - Edit
Been to the one in Honolulu many times and was so excited that one opened up in close to home in Highland Park! We had the Poke Salad & Karaage to start, followed by the Manila Dune and Ewa specialty rolls. Everything was amazing and will definitely be going back.
