Ducking Good

Not quite a home-spun, down and dirty British pub, what this place lacks in authenticity, it certainly makes up for in atmosphere and overall pleasantry. Overlooking what is obviously a far more picturesque water hazard for those not trying navigate its watery depths whilst playing a round on the course, there was a genuinely wholesome, family feel permeating proceedings when I visited, with live music on the lawn, children roaming at will and, most importantly, a plethora of four-legged patrons.
In all honesty, I was dubious as to what the quality of the vegan options would like, but thankfully my naysaying was short-lived as I had a thoroughly spread, capped off by an unexpected plant-based version of one of my all-time favourite desserts: sticky toffee pudding. However, before I get to that glorious crescendo, I have to give due respect to the impossible sausages that came with both the roast and they bangers and mash as they were exceptional. Not to be outdone, the gravy and the chip shop chips also gave a very strong account of themselves. Now, back to the pudding. Heavily spiced, but not overpowering, doused in rich sauce and topped with velvety ice cream, I could quite happily have consumed a bevvy of them.
My only quibbles with this meal were the portion sizes and the price. At half the cost, the serving would have been acceptable. Likewise, if the amount given was doubled for the actual outlay, then I would say it more than represented value for money.
That said, I will definitely be back, though I wouldn’t make it a regular haunt simply due to the damage it would do to my bank account.
