Cajun Cusine in the River City - Edit
From the outside The Rezervoir Lounge is an humble neighborhood bar in the Creston Heights neighborhood, a neighborhood that feels on the up and up to slowly expand into the Eastown hipsters of Grand Rapids. Unfortunately, they no longer have a separate vegan menu, but what they do have is still worth visiting.
Read moreThe only thing on the menu that is openly labeled as vegan in the vegan jambalaya, which is what originally drew me to this rustic bar. And I was pleasantly satisfied. The jambalaya, much better tasting than photographed, was hearty and rich in tomato umami taste. The vegan sausage in it was good, but could have been crumbled in larger chucks to provide a contrasting texture from the rice and tomatoes. Overall, I was happy to have a Cajun option in GR.
Besides the labeled vegan option, there are some other choices on the menu that are secretly vegan, for instance, the stuffed mushrooms. The best way to find out is to ask the friendly service there. I do wish they were labeled as such on the menu, and this could be an area of improvement.
On a downside were the cocktails. Maybe I have developed a pretentious taste, but it has served my tastebuds well. Pro: The cocktails were some of the cheapest spirits I have seen in the city. Con: they also tasted like some of the cheapest spirits I have seen in the city. So, take that as you will. When I return, I will be having a beer on tap.
Overall, we had a great dinner at a friendly GR bar. Check out the Rezervoir Lounge for some good food and friendly vibes.

I stopped in hoping to try something from their vegan menu but I was told that they haven’t had a vegan menu for a couple of years. They did have a couple of items that could be made vegan. The options were not what I was looking for so I left.

This is one of my favorites. Separate vegan menu. Their vegan mozzarella is pretty bland, so get something salty on your pizza as well as that. Good neighborhood bar.
