Oh boy this place is good

We went on a quiet Sunday afternoon which was perfect. Drinks were expensive but excellent. Loaded fries were delicious. Bartender was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was chill with great lighting. We live in Hillsboro but we're already thinking of going back sometime - we want to go during a Dingers Deli pop up next time! #Veganuary

Pros: Food, Drinks, Ambiance

Cons: Price

Great food, drinks, ambiance

We went to The Uncanny for a special dinner out and loved the patio ambiance, the food, and the drinks. We had the Italian porq sandwich, the chicken burger, and the peppers as an appetizer. Everything was incredibly delicious!

Pros: Great food, Great drinks, Nice ambiance

Uncanny Experience

The food is available at The Uncanny bar just in case you're looking for restaurant signage. Anyway, the first time I went, I was met with a very unfriendly bartender who seemed annoyed at my presence, and even more so when I tried to make small talk. I dismissed it as maybe it was a bad day. Funny enough, I mentioned I went here to a friend and mentioned my experience, and they said lemme guess, and then immediately described the exact person and said yup, that person is always rude and dismissive 🥴 I gave the place a second chance and was immediately met with the same situation from the same person again. Now the food. I got a banh mi, which was by far the worst I've ever had. Thick, dry bread. Like 80% carrots and maybe 2 slivers of daikon and 2 slices of jalapeño and no flavor. Just so sad. The fries were cold and rock hard. Also got loaded fries. Oddly enough, these were mushy and undercooked. Then, a different person came over to clear our plates, but I was still eating off of one, and they just reached over me as I'm eating. Didn't even ask, and I'm literally leaning over mid bite. Like what?? Needless to say, that was the last chance, and I will not be returning. This is just my personal experience, so take it for what it is as not everyone has the same experiences.

July Menu

Tucked away on Mississippi, "The Uncanny" is a cocktail bar that has embraced a fully vegan concept, incorporating a delightful restaurant called "Grass Fed." Our recent visit was nothing short of spectacular, leaving both vegans and non-vegans in our group thoroughly impressed.

*Ambiance and Atmosphere:
The Uncanny exudes a chic yet relaxed vibe, perfect for both casual gatherings and special occasions. The decor is modern, with an eclectic mix of vintage touches that give it a unique character. The dim lighting and comfortable seating make it an inviting spot to unwind.

*Food Highlights:
We started with the shishito peppers to share, a dish that quickly became a table favorite. Served on a creamy base and topped with fake bacon bits, these peppers were a flavor explosion, leaving everyone reaching for more.

For the main course, I opted for the Banh Mi on a gluten-free bun, accompanied by waffle fries and an incredible fry sauce. The Banh Mi was a perfect blend of flavors and textures, and the waffle fries were crispy and delicious, making the meal unforgettable.

Two friends chose the Chick'n Sandwich, both raving about how the "hot honey" sauce elevated the dish. Even our non-vegan friend, known for his discerning taste, couldn't stop praising the "steak" sandwich with cheeze sauce. He was particularly impressed by the cheeze and the fry sauce, often remarking on its rich and satisfying flavor, and then ultimately ordering more fry sauce.

*Drinks and Cocktails:
The drink selection at The Uncanny is equally impressive. We sampled both mocktails and cocktails, and the unanimous consensus was that they were exceptional. The infused gins and vodkas added a unique twist to the cocktails, while the mocktails were so elaborate and flavorful that they could easily pass for their alcoholic counterparts.

*Service:
The staff at The Uncanny were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, enhancing our dining experience. Their enthusiasm for the food and drinks was infectious, making us feel even more excited about our choices.

*Overall Experience:
The Uncanny and Grass Fed together offer a memorable dining and drinking experience that caters to both vegans and non-vegans alike. The innovative dishes, combined with an impressive drink menu and a welcoming atmosphere, make it a must-visit spot in the city. Whether you're a local or just passing through, The Uncanny promises an evening of culinary delight that you won't soon forget.

Pros: Rotating Menus, Great Cocktail and Mocktail Menu, Nice Dining Room & Covered Patio
