Nothing Wong With This

Located amidst a throng of building projects, this restaurant's small, relatively unassuming facade (reflectiveness notwithstanding) seriously belies what awaits beyond.
The primary driver in my visit here – aside from the prospect of unlimited food – was the remarkably low price. Convincing myself that it must be too good to be true, I was fully expecting a slightly ramshackle spot with caveats aplenty. What I actually found was contemporary space, with tasteful decor that was very much in keeping with the theme without being overly affected, and carte blanche to go as gung-ho as I dared when it came to food and drink.
With the latter, the freedom to amble up to the fridges and grab a drink was quite surreal for some reason; it almost felt as though I was doing something wrong and that I would be admonished at any moment.
As for the former, the quasi buffet-meets-table service setup was ideal for me. While waiting for the next batch of broth-bound bounty, I simply made the most of some rather stunning spring rolls and bowls full of particularly addictive French fries – they weren’t the best, but by god were they moreish.
With regard to the hotpot itself, the mushroom base I had was superb. Over time, as it reduced, it only continued to develop in its complexity and by the end had become an entirely drinkable soup all of its own.
Another real boon here was the condiment station. Using the handy recipe cards, you could craft classic sauces, or – as I did – you could freestyle using the cornucopia of flavours and textures to concoct all manner of ‘innovative’ (insane) creations.
This was ludicrously good value for money. Fresh, quality ingredients in limitless supply for a mere pittance – just try to stop me from going again, I dare you.
