The very best - Edit
Delicious, unforgettable food in a sweet space decorated with warm memories.
Read moreThis was the best ramen we’ve had - ever! The eggplant sushi is unbelievably good and the yuba sashimi is so tender and fresh.
The staff is friendly and inviting, even when we showed up near closing time.
I wish we weren’t half a world away - we would make this our regular spot. Until then, I’ll dream about returning!
Pros: Absolutely delicious, Unique setting, All vegan

C'était mon premier ramen japonais et je n'ai ABSOLUMENT pas été déçu, c'était trooop bon. Les glaces sont également excellentes (sésame noir 🤝) ! Une très bonne adresse à ne pas manquer !

Out of this world - Edit
The best vegan ramen (milky!) I've ever had. The space and surroundings are truly great too. It all seems to be done with tremendous love, which is something that unfortunately has been pretty rare in the West when it comes to veganism.

One of the best ramens of my life - Edit
Absolutely delicious ramen! It is clearly off the beaten path, but very much worth the trip. The space is tiny, but welcoming. We ordered the tantan ramen and asked for lower levels of spiciness, and they were fantastic. The soy meat is super tasty, the broth is perfect! We ordered the thin noodles as it seemed to be the standard; I personally prefer the thicker ones, but this one was good too. Please do yourself a favor and order the apple juice - it’s freshly made and just delicious. I highly recommend this place!

Soy Based Ramen - Edit
Towzen is one of the big named vegan ramen spots in Kyoto and was well worth the effort locating the venue on my most recent trip.
Read moreThe shop is located in the northeastern side of the city halfway between Kinkakuji and Kiyomizu via bus. It's also located to a subway stop so there are a few methods of getting to the restaurant.
It's a cute, small shop where you remove your shoes at the front before taking a seat. The menu offers predominantly vegan ramen that is soy-milk based, making it pretty unique to try.
Started with their Yuba Sashimi which was decent. The tofu skin lacked much flavor but it was nice to have that as an appetizer. Our soy-milk ramen was indeed delicious with wonderful homemade noodles and a tasty broth.
Make sure to follow their Instagram because their hours can be unpredictable.

Flavorful and enjoyable vegan ramen and more! - Edit
They have 2 types of soup, a couple different types of noodles, sizes, spiciness, and many side dishes to choose from. Very cozy atmosphere, you can even sit in a Kotatsu table if you're lucky!

Good vegan soy milk ramen in lovely setting - Edit
Just a block or two off Kita-Oji dori, Ramen Tow Zen has a variety of ramen dishes, a lunch set with ramen, salad and soy dessert, vegan cakes , coffee, beer , sake. We came for lunch without a reservation and had to wait 5-10 minutes on a wooden bench in the pleasant leafy entryway.
Read moreCustomers have a choice of small, medium or large servings and levels of spice. We had the mushroom ramen (not spicy) and the Dan Dan ( medium spice) ramen in the lunch set. A good place to eat if you’re near Shimogamo shrine, or in our case, visit in northern temples. There is an English menu
Pros: Friendly service, Nice ambiance , Tasty food all vegan

Homey atmosphere & delicious, carefully crafted food - Edit
The whole experience here was dreamy, from arriving and walking down the narrow garden alley to the entrance, taking off shoes to enter the home, being guided to a beautiful, tatami style table, to eating the warm and delicious food in peace! The decor is lovely and cozy and they played quiet Japanese radio while we were there which was fun to listen to.
Read moreThe sesame latte (non caffeinated) was creamy, not too sweet, and even a bit savory. The tantan ramen had great flavor despite being cooked without the “5 pungent spices” that some Buddhists avoid which we often miss from some of the vegan fare in Japan. We personally don’t want to live without onion and garlic but this ramen was still great.
Be sure not to take photos inside. This is their space and they don’t want pictures of it or themselves to be shared.

Incredible Ramen! Highly recommended place! - Edit
Best Vegan Ramen I ate in Kyoto so far. So tasty and rich in flavour. All that in a traditional japanese environment (e.g take shoes off before you enter) The service was really nice and they speak good english. You can choose the style, amount, spicyness, flavour and the type of noodles. The desert (Chlorella cake and Ice cream) were also amazing!!

Delicious food in a beautiful atmosphere - Edit
Everyone in our party loved their food, both the vegetarians and the omnivores. The service was very friendly. We had six people and no reservation. We got lucky and were able to be seated - 4 at a Japanese-style table and 2 at a table with chairs. Highly recommend the eggplant sushi.

favorite ramen in Japan, let alone Kyoto - Edit
I am kind of obsessed with this place. It’s beautiful. It’s like you are eating in someone’s home. Everything is so charming. You can’t take pics of the home and surroundings but you can of the food. Honestly this was my favorite ramen in all of Japan and I ate a lot of vegan ramen in Japan haha. It was out of this world. And the eggplant sushi was amazing. It is a bit out of the way but you can get there on subway and a 15 minute walk. It worth it. Confirm their opening hours on Instagram and get there early. We were there right when they opened and there was a huge wait when we left.

Cute space delicious food - Edit
The restaurant is so cute and homey. You remove your shoes and the interior is basically just like someone’s house. It feels like you’re coming over to a friend’s place for dinner. They have a memory book that all of their customers can write in. We had fun reading entries from 2017! The food was spectacular. We loved everything we tried!

Home away from home - Edit
Such a lovely atmosphere! I ordered on uber eats before going, and it was definitely even tastier in person. I personally preferred the tan tan style ramen the best. It’s thick and creamy and filling. The vanilla ice cream is also one of the best vegan ice creams I’ve ever had. I would definitely go again and again.
