Vegan tasting menu - Edit
We enjoyed the experience and the food here. Feel that there is a passionate vegan chef here who likes to experiment with different dishes. The staff are really lovely and are interested in which dishes we liked best.
Read moreWe chose 3 dishes each, we particularly liked the Aubergine dish, the curry (thought there might have been some chocolate on the tofu- but it worked) and the runner bean puree. We weren't sure about the red pepper sorbet as a savoury dish. it was so sweet it was more of a dessert. However we enjoyed trying different dishes

nice service, but overrated - Edit
Honestly-we weree expecting so much better food and were very much disappointed. The service was very friendly and nice and the dishes looked well, but being a fan of god food and fine dining, we could not eat most of the dishes as there was no balance in the composing…. too much vinegar, too much bread, too spicy and (that‘s my personal view) I had a problem with some consistances…. Nevertheless, the wine was great. I am sorry, I wish I could give a better resumé….

Very nice experience - Edit
Glad to have experienced eating here. Flavours were very nice. I did find it overpriced for what it was though. Would I recommend eating here - yes, however I likely won’t go back again due to the cost and portion sizes. This is more of a fine dining experience than an everyday meal. The menu changes weekly apparently so what you see on here is not likely what will be available when you visit. Our favourite dishes were the shiitake mushrooms; the runner bean purree, the fried polenta and the sweet potato cheesecake with miso caramel sauce - that cheesecake I would actually go back for! 😂😍 the sauce reminded me of creme caramel. To die for! This place did get busy so I recommend making a reservation rather than pitching up

The coolest plant based menu i can remember - Edit
Wow! This was a treat. Dinner for two, we sampled 7 of the 8 dishes from the July menu tasting portion style. Natty wine was lit. Service was great, intentional, thoughtful, but friendly and casual. The food was really impressive. They prepared grilled watermelon in the style of tuna on sushi that was bizarrely amazing. The polenta tomato dish made my brain tingle with delight. That aubergine! The menu was fun, precise, beautifully plated, and never once did I think about it feeling like “vegetarian food”, it was just inventive kick ass food art that satisfied and fillled my belly and my brain. Totally would recommend. Good vibes and tasty tunes to boot. Just do it.

Amazing fresh and creative vegan food - Edit
This was one of our favorite places we visited during our stay in Porto. We visited during lunchtime and tried as many petiscos as possible. The food was amazing, the dishes creative, made from fresh and seasonal ingredients, and beautifully plated. If we ever return to Porto, we will definitely visit Venn Canteen again.

Too expensive, flavors just ok - Edit
The ideia of small plates to share and taste more options is good, but the plates are waaay too small. And expensive. Nothing special about the flavors, I got much better experiences in other restaurants of Porto.

The closest you can get to a michelin star... - Edit
This place is amazing. 10/5 stars!
Read moreEvery dish is unique and so so tasteful. They look fantastic but are an even bigger explosion of different flavors and textures.
You can order 3 plates for 24€ and 4 for 28€. It is perfect to share (like we did) 6 plates for 2.
Buuut the food was so exceptional that we upgraded our 6 plate order to 8 plates even that we weren't hungry at the end of the 6th plate anymore.
The plates are small and each costs 8-10€ if you order them a la carte separately. So if you really want a single dish it is a little bit expensive, but I think that's a big exception.
The quality of the ingredients and their composition was truly amazing!
So prizewise I would say that you get a lot more than you pay for, even if it is a little bit on the pricy side.
The staff was amazing and the location with its open kitchen too.
Our favorite by far was the aubergine with the caramelized onion cream. This cream is like heaven on earth....
But every dish was extraordinary, we just loved the onion-cream too much!
The tables for 2 are a liiittle bit small but that's the only mimus.
Pros: Amazing food, Unique dishes, Flavor explosions
Cons: Small tables

Gorgeous menu! - Edit
Such a lovely seasonal menu of small plates perfect for sharing. Two of us shared 8 of the 10 (main) dishes on the menu (excl the nibbles section of bread and such) and it was a perfect amount.
Read moreI really liked the braised tofu, polenta and ratatouille. Wasn’t such a fan of the potato dish.
Good selection of drinks too.

Edit to add: I came back here for a second time and tried the other two dishes I hadn’t had before and they were also delicious. This menu is just fabulous. One of my fav restaurants in Porto

Delicious food with inventive combinations of flavors. Interesting wine selection, friendly service and overall cozy environment. Locals recommended and I definitely would too. Bonus points for the several gluten free options on the menu, which is a list of small dishes to enjoy by yourself or share with the group, making for a fun mix and match tasting.

Deserved of hype - Edit
Very popular on happy cow and it deserves to be. Changing menu every week I believe. It is a small plates restaurant with focus on veg and whole foods (no fake meat). Every single dish was delicious. It was inventive and creative. One of the most enjoyable vegan meals I've had. Quite an intimate atmosphere. Reasonably priced for the quality. The meat eater in my group said it was the best vegan food she'd had.

Creativity on a plate - Edit
A real treat in Porto and gastronomic experience. Each small plate - we shared 6 between 2 people and that was a lovely feast - is a work of art in itself. The flavour combinations were creative and the dishes were presented with flair. This is an unpretentious foodie haven with friendly and knowledgeable staff.

A culinary journey - Edit
I'm thoroughly enjoying my time in Oporto, especially exploring restaurants that are striving to innovate. Venn Canteen stands out with its diverse array of vegetable small plates, each offering a unique culinary journey.
Read moreStarting with a delightful selection of bread and a pesto bursting with flavor, my culinary adventure began. Among the small plates, grilled mushrooms accompanied by hazelnut and oat granola, along with an infused mushroom cream, provided a satisfying experience, although I felt the cream could explore different flavors. However, the fried polenta stole the spotlight with its incredible compote.
For those seeking a dining experience that pushes culinary boundaries, Venn Canteen is a must-visit destination in Oporto.
